I recently had a crash that required that I reboot using my recovery disc that were made when I first got this computer. Since this reboot, I cannot access the updates from Microsoft Updates program. No error message, just tells me I cannot connect. After many attempts, I beleive the problem is in the validation of the Windows program I am using. I have manually tried to run the validation program and to upload some security fixes that I have saved from previous crashes. I am showing SP2 is current. I have a Standalone download of SP3, that when I upload into the system, it crashes and burns. Back to the same thing, reboot using the Recovery disc. I realize support for X…

    * customer has volume licence agreement with MS. * customer buys large quantaties of laptops with OEM preinstall to work as terminal on the field next to their solution * customer needs to downgrade each W8 to W7 can you, please, explain how it works CFI? Many IT Pros may be looking at re-imaging pre-installed OEM images with a standard corporate image. However, It’s less clear how this works from a licensing perspective. I have included some of the rules around re-imaging your PCs and the caveats that you should look out for to not fall foul of mislicensing. In terms of available approaches for an OEM image: An organisation may use the Windows Au…

Can anyone in the Community help with a complicated print spooler problem in Windows 7 that doesn't seem to be answered in the current responses? I have a Toshiba Equium laptop with a Lexmark S305 all-in-one printer installed. The computer is at least 5 years old, the printer around 3 years old. Until recently I have had no problems with printing. This is the problem now: When I first boot up both computer and printer in the morning, if I want to print out a document it will download to the printer and print without a problem. If I then want to print a second document, it downloads to the printer, which then appears to be preparing to print (it makes all the right noises…

I am backing up to an 3TB ESATA drive using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 w/SP1. I run backups monthly and last month the backup ran normally. This month however when the actual writing of the zip files to the backup drive began it slowed to a crawl. It actually appears to have stalled with only occasional disk activity either from the drives being backed up or the destination drive. I have run chkdsk on all drives (source and destination), sfc, checked error logs, CBS.log, and done a clean boot but the situation has remained unchanged. When I look at the backup folders on the destination drive I find that my previous backup that ran normally builds 4 or 5 zip files pe…

Hi There, Our Family Safety is not working properly. Web filter (block certain sites, web content = block sites with erotic content) , time limit (schedule) and game limit are ON. The time limit does not block the computer for the blue marked time. The web filter blocks the sites which I entered in the "blocked websites" list for Internet Explorer only, but not for Firefox, so this does not help. Our system: PC with Windows 7, IE 11, Firefox 27. Family Safety is installed and running. With kind regards, Griet A. Continue reading...

I am using Windows 8.1 with Windows defender. For the last few days I've noticed ad popups on various web pages I go to. I ran malwarebytes and it found the following: C:\users\xxxxx\Appdata\Roaming\OpenCandy. A google search regarded this as malware, but Windows Defender did not pick it up, either with a quick scan or full scan. Any comments on this? Thanks Continue reading...

Good day everyone, I got a new computer about a month ago, and decided to get the Norton 360 trial on my new computer for a few days to see how I like it. Based on some research I've done, I've decided to not get the full version and instead just use Windows Defender and SpyBot S&D. However, every since installing it, Windows Defender has been giving me an error. My computer is running Windows 8.1 x64. When I open Windows Defender up, this message is on the front screen: "Your PC isn't being monitored because the app's service stopped working. You should restart it now." Then, when I click the button on the bottom that says "Start Now" it pops up with ano…

I also notice that scanning has not happened to schedule and when I do a quick scan, ME switches off. I cannot find any malware but obviously something has happened in the last few days. I'm running Windows Vista on an older computer, and Microsoft Security Essentials keeps stopping during scans, both quick and full scans (though oddly enough, it stops near the beginning of a full scan but near the end of a quick scan, dunno if that helps). I keep getting the message that the app's service has stopped, along with the error code 0x800106ba. I also have to turn real-time protection back on afterward. I've searched the forum for answers, but most of them involve Windows Defender, which I don't even have on my computer. Any help finding out what's going on would be appreciated. Continue reading...
