OK, I'm not too sure what's going on here but there's some stuff that's just not working for me at the moment. I set up Ubuntu in VM Ware and it was working alright, had a profile, downloaded Chrome etc... Yet when I have come back to reopen it the mouse isn't working... Once it boots up I have a screen that I can arrow up / down the profile I set up, guest session and remote login. Pressing enter on the profile I set up does nothing. Guest profile opens, but there's still no mouse. I've never used Linux before so I'm not sure what's happened here. Continue reading...

The Kickstarter-funded Veronica Mars movie landed not only in theaters, but on Ultraviolet digital streaming and on iTunes yesterday. For a Hollywood movie from a studio like Warner Brothers, that's... transcendent. But as much as it might have presaged a new era in entertainment, it also highlighted some massive ongoing problems. Mainly, the digital downloads offered to backers turned out not to be the iTunes codes some wanted but Ultraviolet streams instead. That caused a lot of confusion and more than a little anger. Moisés Chiullan, writing for TechHive: UltraViolet is a studio-backed system that came about as a response to the massive success of Apple’s iTunes …

iWatch is all most markets and media outlets are talking about these days because wearables are new and every short-attention-span junky in the world wants Apple to do something new. But what if, instead of an iWatch, Apple went with an iRing? Make all the Sauron jokes you want, but hall-of-famer Craig Hockenberry has put a lot of thought into the possibility and written it all up on his blog, Furbo.org: Let this sink in for a second: your wearable device is transmitting a signal with a unique identifier that can be picked up by an iOS 7 device. And the proximity detection is sensitive within a few inches. Presumably, this signal could be also be detected on your Ma…

iOS 7.1 is here and it fixes a ton of problems but, as with every update, it's also had an impact on some people's battery life. Whether it's from a restore gone bad or new features overloaded for the first time, some people just aren't getting the same charge out of their iPhone or iPad as they used to. Well, worry not! Here's how to fix your battery life problems under iOS 7.1! Note: iOS 7 used much more battery its first day or two after updating. Whether that was Spotlight search re-indexing or the system behind multitasking smartening up we're not sure. It's possible iOS 7.1 could be doing the same thing. If you've just updated to iOS 7.1 and are experiencing batt…

Puzzle & Dragons is a massively popular game out of Japan that continues to be among the top free-to-play titles in the App Store. True to its Japanese roots, you’re going to find a lot of Pokemon-style creatures and statistics here, but at its core is a match-3 game along the same vein as Candy Crush Saga. The gameplay is decidedly more deep, with massive creature selection, progression and upgrading. This depth may pose some serious challenges to players trying out the game for the first time, but we've got some tips to help you get started and clearing out dungeons in no time. 1. Restart the tutorial until you get a high-quality god When first starti…

If you're looking to have a good time on your Mac this weekend, pop on over to Blizzard's site and download Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. The company's free to play strategy card game recently emerged from a lengthy public beta period and is now ready for general consumption. From the makers of World of Warcraft, StarCraft II, Diablo III and other fine games for Mac and Windows, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is a Blizzard game of a very different calibre than you've seen before: Set up like a tabletop card game, you choose one of nine different Warcraft heroes to play as, taking turns playing cards from customizable decks to cast spells, use weapons or summon othe…

Due to millions of people still using Windows XP, there are also millions of complaints about it being discontinued. See this link for more info: http://news.softpedia.com/news/We-Ask-You-Answer-Should-Windows-XP-Be-Killed-421956.shtml And so my question is, what do you think Microsoft should do to Windows XP? Should they discontinue it or back off until everyone is ready. The point is, even after all these years - consumers and businesses can't upgrade to newer versions of WIndows, because (A) They are stuck and need new hardware that is too expensive to buy, or (B) They can't afford a new computer. If you would want Microsoft to back off, then please als…

I have downloaded many (40) albums from my Windows Media Player Library to my MP3 player. I noticed that when I would view "albums" on my MP3, they were not all there and when I would view "genre" or "artist", they may show up. Also, under the "album" list there would be a album titled "other" in which many more albums or a few songs of an album would be listed. So, I thought I would go back in and Manually change all the Album names to the Artist who made the Album, and then list the Album name on the 2nd line. That worked a little better but still the same problem. In viewing some of the many in the "Other" album name it appears as though many of them had various a…

Dell Inspiron 1440 McAfee AV Windows 7 all MS updates through 3/16 On 3/16 I performed a Windows Update. Last WinUpdate prior to that was 2/21, then 2/20. Since then I have lost my ability to use the on-board wireless connections. Tried Fn+F2 several times; tried the Windows wireless resolution manager; tried shutdown/restart; each situation with no luck. Win 7 Device Manager doesn't show any warnings or yellow triangles. I can use an external USB AirLink 101 adapter and it works fine and the system finds the locally available networks. I am on this as I type! No VMs running. Wired connection works fine also. Just the on-board wireless that doesn'…

I have just got this laptop, which already came with Windows 7 home premium loaded onto it. It has been working fine before and just now started doing an update. However it has been stuck on installing update 66 or 125 for over 24 hours now. I tried the solution for a similar problem, which was to restart it (even though it says not to power off or unplug) but when it turned back on, it just went promptly to the same screen. What do? Please, please help me! I am not very technically orientated. I bought Window 7 about 8 weeks ago and apparently reading the thread made a grave mistake. I had sometimes a CREATOR OWNER, SYSTEM, and other users. I was thinking this is my computer and I don't share with nodbody. So I reapeatly removed them. Still does. But it brings me into boiling water. What I can see is that somebody, I referred to him as a hacker, first made all my private documents, pictures, music everything public for all to help themselves to. As you can think I was very, very upset. Now he is using my C drive with my programs on as a storage place or as a place where anybody and everybody…
