Trying to set up my combo set, Sculpt Comfort wireless, on ASUS all in one. Operating system is Windows 8 and the computer is a touch screen. Installed the USB receiver, put in batteries, turned on mouse (keyboard doesn't have switch). Mouse works fine. Keyboard does not work at all. No error message. All software and drivers are in. Device manager reports device working properly. Anyone else have this problem and find a solution? I'm about to take this thing back. Continue reading...

I get Microsoft store and Google update reminders and advertising covering the whole screen when I am in the middle of typing Emails, or looking up something and I can't minimize them or erase them. The only way I can go back to my work is by clicking "Start" on the right hand corner. This is time consuming and very annoying. I even hired a technician to help me and he wasn't able to solve the problem. Continue reading...

I believe my laptop recently updated to Windows 8.1 and for some reason I'm no longer able to watch Netflix through a browser, I'm forced to watch it on the Netflix app. This is a problem seeing as I use an add on to Torch to watch American Netflix. Does anyone know if I can somehow watch Netflix online again? Continue reading...

I am having an issue on the Desktop version of Windows 8. The volume slider will randomly go all the down, and I can't make it go back up, as if I drag it up, it'll fall back down. This persists until a PC restart. This also makes a volume slider appear in the upper left corner of the screen, Alt Tab no longer works, and the special Windows 8 bar that appears when you drag the mouse into a corner no longer appears as well. I do have "Do not allow applications to take exclusive control of volume" enabled, and when the sound detects other programs, "Do Nothing" enabled. I have rebuilt my PC earlier this month, the problem still happens. At the moment, I have close to barebo…

Hello, I have two computers in my network. I am trying to use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to each computer. Computer A allows me to edit or delete the credentials when I uncheck the "Always ask for credentials" checkbox. There are two sentences underneath the User Name field. The second sentence states "To use saved credentials, clear the following check box." Computer B does not allow me to edit or delete the credentials. The checkbox is labeled "Allow me to save credentials". There is no ability to edit or delete credentials. When using Computer A I am able to connect to Computer B using RDC. When using Computer B I am unable to …

I am taking pictures of sunsets using a camera which creates a 4928x3264 jpeg image every 10 seconds. I then drag and drop these into Windows Live Movie Maker Version 2011 (Build 15.4.3508.1109) on Windows 7 Home Premium to create a movie of the clouds during sunset. Mostly, this is successful, but occasionally some of the images are cropped differently. I think from the bottom instead of the top. Windows Live Movie Maker has the option of either widescreen (16:9) or standard (4:3) but my images are in between. This makes the resultant movie jump around. Is there a way to tell Windows Live Movie Maker to consistently crop images? Peter Continue reading...

After receiving my Lenovo G570 (Win7 Home Premium 64-bit) back from some serious repairs, I attempted to restore my backups from before the hardware failure. I had misremembered the computer name that I used before, and entered a slightly different one. Now B & R does not find any B/U's except one I did when I first got the laptop back, even if I move the older B/U to the new folder. How do I restore these folders? (There are more than 50, many with subfolders, so manually unzipping them is likely to miss some) The backups are on a USB portable HD, if that matters. None of the posts have a answer that works for me. Thanks Brent Continue reading...

When opening Windows Explorer I see a listing of my network connections. My XP Virtual Drive is listed there. However,, when I attempt to access it through Explorer, I get an error message that the computer is having difficulties finding the connection. I am the administrator and only user on the system. I am the one who installed the virtual drive, and it has been in use for over 6 months. How can I access the virtual drive? I want to transfer files, and copying and pasting them does not work. We have a small ACER notepad Model AOD255 with Intel (CPU N450 @ 1.66gHz) Memory 1.00 GB and running 32 bit Windows 7 O/S. since the 15th of December 2013 the computer has been trying to install the above update without success. The Popup on Update history shows an error code of 9C47, but when looking for more information windows returns with the message that the error does not exist. How can I either - stop the machine from trying to install the update or how can I manually install this update. Probably on a small machine like this Internet explorer 10 works fine and a more memory hungry program would only slow things further. Thanks sarah Continue reading..…

Hello, I am currently working on a friend's laptop, and I found that there was a 254GB partition with the label DATA. The HDD is 500 GB, so this partition is using just over half. The Windows partition is 186GB in size, which only has 7GB free. The partition reports that there is only 700MB of data on it. I don't think this is a recovery partition because I've never seen a recovery partition that uses that much of the disk, and Disk Management reports that it's not bootable. Inside this drive are numerous DLL files and a few others that seem to point to Visual C++ Redistributable. I recently removed 14 viruses from the system using Defender Offline, since…

I am getting occasional notifications for a product called MyPCBackup, a cloud backup service offered by a company called JDIBackup, which came bundled with another product and which I accidentally installed. I have deleted the program and have been unable to find any registry keys with this name. But I still get the notifications intermittently. Each time the icon and notification appears briefly and then disappears. I can see the icon for the process ("GOffer") in the "Customize" list on the taskbar but when I click on "Show icon and notifications" the message says "This icon is not currently active. It will be shown the next time it becomes active". Is there some …

I need a way to have a Linux-based machine send a message that can be received and displayed by the Mavericks Notification Center. I used to do this on an older version of OS X by running Growl, and using its built-in ability to listen for incoming notifications. On the Linux box, I run a Perl script that uses the Net:Growl module to send the notifications. This was simple and worked well, but since everything is moving from Growl to Notification Center I'd like to be able to use that under Mavericks. As far as I can tell, Notification Center has no way to receive incoming messages from another system on the network and post them. Is there really no way to do that, or …

So basically I got a digital piano connected up to my computer for the purpose of recording, which all works fine as far as recording goes, but I'm getting no audio playback as I'm recording, so I can't hear myself playing. It's connected with a stereo cable from the headphones line on the piano to the mic inthe on computer (these are my only options for connection). I'm doing this based on a guide meant for windows, which has a section on this very problem; it goes on to say that some digital pianos will shut off their speakers when the headphones in is being used, like in my case, and to set it up to have the audio playback through the computer by - enabling the …

Good morning. From my understanding, MC does not support SFTP per say, but it uses FISH (sh command). The FTP support is only for plain FTP. I have a Synology diskstation and I would like to be able to transfer files to my off-site backup, a Seagate FoFlex home I bought. Since Synology does not have FTP client support my only option seem to be using MC with Putty. I have encountered several difficulties and I would like some help. 1. How can I shutdown my computer (computer that I have accessed MC via Putty) once I have initiated the transfer. I noticed that if I close Putty, the transfer also stops. Since my transfers are hundred of GB's, and it would take da…

I'm going to buy a sound card mainly for gaming APIs for games that i STILL play when i dualboot into windows. Ofcourse i know thouse are useless for linux. It is said that audio is better with them as well and if i have it i do like to use it with linux. I mostly was targeting audigy SE which i see in alsa soundcard matrix. But i preffer to buy a nice card and probably will never upgrade it. so i would prefer Rx or Fx but i wonder are they safe to buy for linux. As i would like to make some use out of them too. I was sitting in the passenger seat of the car, terrified. My friend just wouldn't stop using her tech as she drove. The entire trip not second went by when she wasn't paying more attention to it than to the road. I finally had to yell that, if she didn't stop, I'd get out and walk. And live. She acquiesced, but whenever I saw her drive up or away again her eyes were never fully on the road and it scared the life out of me. Somehow we both survived high school but the experience made me hate AM/FM radios, their knobby little tuners, and human compulsion to surf channels in few-minute "good song" bites. And that was long, long before the advent of phones or texting or CarP…

Boy, MFi game controller support on iOS 7 hasn't worked out the way I hoped it would. Right now, it's a mess. When Apple announced MFi controller support in iOS 7 at WWDC last June, I got excited. The iPhone and iPad are tremendously powerful devices and there are lots of great games, but not every game is good with touch screen controls. The lack of tactile response, the obscuring of what's happening on screen, and the sometimes-awkward hold you have to make to grip the device all added up to frustration for me, over and over again. MFi controller support seemed like a great compromise: gamers who wanted real game controls would be able to get devices that worked. …
