Hello, I'm one of your fine but average Linux user: I know the basics of Linux, but lack practice and true use bash and programming language, while I can find most of the help I need, usually. I used a few distro and I'm now running Sabayon 14. I'm using Linux as my only OS now, had too much problems with Windows, despite being a bit of a gamer. I've some knowledge about gaming with Linux (I'll see if I can help about it) but I mainly want to do some code right now. I've started Python and I'll try out C and C++ soon. Hope to be able to help people out here (and getting a bit of help too ;) ) Continue reading...

This month we release five bulletins to address 23 unique CVEs in Microsoft Windows, Internet Explorer and Silverlight. If you need to prioritize, the update for Internet Explorer addresses the issue first described in Security Advisory 2934088, so it should be at the top of your list. While that update does warrant your attention, I want to also call out another impactful update.

If you're unlucky enough to live in one of the regions — like most of the United States and Canada — where spring means pushing the clocks forward an hour in what's called Daylight Saving Time but is better thought of as Lose an Hour of Sleep Night, then it's time once again to do just that. And because the iPhone and iPad have historically had as much trouble handling the change as we humans, you might want to make sure you give yourself a backup alarm backup for the evening and double-check your iOS time against some other source as soon as you wake up. Once you're certain you'll be waking up when you're supposed to — or sleeping an hour later than normal! — let me k…

AT&T on Sunday will reduce the price of their 2 GB "Mobile Share Value" plan from $80 to $65 per month, with one smartphone and no annual contract. Two smartphones cost $90, down from $105. The 2 GB plan includes unlimited talk and text, 50 GB of cloud storage using AT&T's Locker service, and unlimited international messaging. AT&T (coverage map here) is directing customers who need more than two lines to its 10 GB Mobile Share Value plan, which starts at $145 for three phones. AT&T already had a price edge over competitor Verizon, whose 2 GB More Everything plan costs $90 for one phone and $130 for two (unless you participate in Verizon's "Edge" upg…

If Support is ending all listening connections to Microsoft should be ended as well. I don't care what kind of secure protocol is used to communicate through windows update, and what ever the other ports are used for; Microsoft should release a patch for all windows xp versions that closes the ports. Reality: those open ports pose a risk of a hacker installing malicious software on your computer. About a year ago there was a thread about a critical windows update that was forcibly installed on windows xp pcs regardless if they have windows update enabled. If Microsoft can do that, a hacker will be able to figure it out as well and therefore be able to install ma…

When I close a window , such as a game, the page stays in place and slowly fades from top to bottom, when it does all my icons do the same. Tool bar is not affected by this. The icons fade if I close IE8 as well. Been happening on and off for about 3 months. I have an XP Pro 32bit, dual processor, high speed DSL, Dell Pentium D machine. Also a window opens behind the game page as it closes with message: "The web page you are viewing is trying to close do you want to close?", this just stared showing up last week. I have defragged, cleaned, run both MS virus scan and Spyware scan/ removal tool, ran all the Fix-It programs I could..nothing works so far. After so many…

Avanquest Support says that I'm missing a Microsoft Service called Windows Module Installer or TrustedInstaller. Under services.msc on my computer only Windows Installer is listed. However, we have 3 computers running Windows XP, and none of them have services called "Windows Module Installer" or "TrustedInstaller." Avanquest tech support said one of these programs should have been installed as part of a Windows XP update, but our computers should have all of the Windows…

I have 2 Dell Inspirons running Windows 8 - cloned hard drives. I also have a Acer Iconia tablet running Windows 8. All 3 units are networked and communicate with shares. 1. I can connect to both PCs from the tablet. 2. I can connect both PCs to each other. 3. I cannot connect either PC to the tablet. On the tablet: I checked firewall and added Remote Connection. I have looked in the registry HDLM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\fDenyTSConnections and changed it to "0" but it knocked the tablet off the network; the setting is currently "1" and performs as listed in 1-3 above. I can't believe this is unique but I can't find it anywhere. I had Windows 7 Professional on my C: drive and the computer died. I bought a new computer and it came with Windows 8. I have both hard drives in the system now, with 8 being the one that boots. I want the option to dual boot, but every set of instructions I've seen says to set up dual boot while installing the 2nd OS and they're both installed already. Is there a way to do this? If not, I'll have to wipe out Windows 8, because I have way too much going on in my 7 Pro OS to give it up. I have the disk for 7, if that matters; the 8, of course, did not come with one. Both are legal, and are 64-bit. Thanks. Cont…

I keep getting this prompt while using my laptop which is running the windows 7 OS. First there is a few clicks like when opening and closing of folders and then a dialogue box flashes really quickly on screen and disappears, too fast to read. I used a screen capture program to capture the box and it read "the webpage you are viewing is trying to close". I read some threads that suggests it happens with Internet Explorer but at the time I was using the Google Chrome browser and it keeps recurring about every hour. It even pops up when I'm not online at all while I'm just viewing normal content on my hard drive with no browsers open. Can you please assist? Continue read…
