I had noticed 125gb (86% of my free space) was being occupied by .net framework in the temp folder of my local settings in my system 32 folder. They appear to installation logs. I am running XP and have been unable to properly install updates for some time now. I don't know if the two are related. Is there a way to correct this issue? Or can they just be deleted? Thank you. My wireless connection to the internet stopped working when I converted from ATT DSL to ATT Uverse. My laptop can see the network and says that I am connected with all the "bars" green. However, when I try to connect to the internet I have one of two things happen. Either I get a long delay which ends with the message that I can not connect with the network. Or - I can connect to the internet for a very short period of time - a portion of a screen appears and then locks up. I have entered the security codes multiple times times to assure accuracy. How do I resolve this issue? Continue reading...

I am trying to install Skype and other Apps on Windows 8 and keep getting the well known failure code 0x800700b7. The 4 methods recommended by other users in the forum (back on Jan-9, 2013 [see below]) didn't work. Do you have any other suggestion? Method 1: Step1: Running the Modern UI App troubleshooter and check if it helps. Hi, I am trying to install brand new and unused copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit version in a brand new Samsung 804 Pro 512GB SSD inserted into a Packard Bell Easynote TX86 with 8GB RAM. The computer detects the Windows disk when powered up. It then goes through the following loop: 'Widows is loading files' screen as it loads files 'Starting Windows Screen Power off the computer Power back onto computer, detect the setup disk and return to step 1 It will not get beyond this and will not allow me to interact with it in any way (at least not that I have found). I thought I might try to install the 32 bit system and then upgrade to the 64 bit but the 3…

This is on Windows 7. It only started happening when the desktop I was connecting to upgraded from XP to Win 7. The problem never happened when the machine being remoted to was XP. There is a hot fix when I do a google search. It talks about Win 7 SP 1. support.microsoft.com/kb/2523307 But the pre-requisites say you need to be running Windows Server 2008 to install the hot fix. How do I get a hot fix for Win 7? Continue reading...

I was contacted by someone on the phone and was told they were from microsoft. They informed me that I was being hacked and that they were in control of my system. They also told me that my wifi is being used or will be used in the future for criminal activity. Without questioning it at the time I gave them access to my computer and they showed me where the hacker was and what he was doing. They informed me that they have all my passwords now, that they are in control of my norton security, and that they can do whatever they want in my system. That they could at any moment. They claim to have fixed the problem and they installed a cleaning program. But then they tried to…

Why does Microsoft not put a solution to this problem in it's antimalware tool? All I get from them is a suggestion to purchase someone else's malware removal tools. Can anyone tell me how to remove this terrible company and it's annoying products from my computer? How do they get on my computer? I don't see "concuit" anywhere under "programs" and of course they are crooked enough to not include an uninstall tool. Please help. *** Email address is removed for privacy *** Continue reading...

Hello all, I'm not sure I fully understand why it is important to upgrade from Windows XP or Office 2003 if antivirus will still protect me. Take for example this vulnerability: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/security/bulletin/ms11-073 Won't antivirus prevent this vulnerability from being exploited? How much of a risk is there to running Office 2003 after April 8 2014 compared to running Windows XP? I believe there is a greater risk of running Windows XP than running Office 2003 as shown by the quote below. A Microsoft Security blog, found at http://blogs.technet.com/b/security/archive/2013/08/15/the-risk-of-running-windows-xp-after-support-ends.…

Hello , I am new to iptables.I have a task.I have a APP vm running on top of a host machine.I also have a guest vm running on top of this host machine. IP of host : 192.168.122.4 IP of APP VM : 192.168.100.4 IP of Guest VM: 192.168.122.9 The App VM is running a nfs server process to which I want my guest vm to be able to mount to. Basically I want a rule on the host saying whatever nfs requests comes in,forward it to 192.168.100.4 (APP VM).Note that the host is not running any nfs related processes.(no ports in listening mode) How can I achieve this? And if I need to mount from the guest vm,can i specify the IP of APP VM directly? Any comments/suggestions …

OK, we have a RHEL 5.6 server that is behaving very strangely. It runs in VMware, and has 16GB 'physical' RAM assigned to it. As soon as it boots, the OS is automatically grabbing 12GB out of the 16GB it has allocated to it, and we cannot figure out what is causing this to happen. This of course prevents us from being able to start any of our applications. It even does this when we boot to single-user mode. It is not disk caching, as we have already cleared that. Here's what we see: [servertst01 ~]# free -m total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 16050 12645 3405 0 19 201 -/+ buffers/cache: 12425 3625 Swap: 10239 0 10239 How can we figure out what…

The iPad 2 is finally gone, and in its place is an iPad that's a much better value. While the iPhone 5c 8 GB model didn't merit even a peep from Apple's PR department, they certainly were happy to announce that the fourth-generationiPad has replaced the iPad 2 as the value-priced model in the lineup. Will the iPad with Retina display have the same sort of extraordinarily long run as the iPad 2? One hell of a run Let's toast the iPad 2. It had one hell of a good run for a device in as fast-moving a market as tablets. The second generation iPad was introduced in March, 2011 and lasted three years and one week. It was the first refresh of the iPad, a then still-no…

There is a case to be made that Apple is doomed without Steve Jobs. Kane just fails to make it. Worse, she doesn't even try. Skip it. I was tempted to make that my entire review. But it would be a disservice to anyone considering buying Yukari Iwatani Kane's new book, Haunted Empire: Apple After Steve Jobs. You might find some of the anecdotes about Steve Jobs and Apple collected between the book's covers interesting but this is not the type of work anyone should reward with money. I feel terrible writing that. I hold Kane and her years of work on the Apple beat for the Wall Street Journal in the absolute highest of regard. When I heard she was leaving to work on…
