I have a W7 desktop and a W8.1 tablet. I set the tablet to join the homegroup and can see the desktop. I've copied some things over. Today, for the first time, I wanted to copy something from the tablet to the desktop. File Explorer on the desktop claims the desktop is the only computer in the homegroup. 1) Why can the tablet see the desktop but not the other way around? 2) How do I fix it? Continue reading...

I am trying to remove conduit from Windows 8. I have looked for it on the Control Panel under Conduit, Conduit/toggle, Utorrent, Yontoo and Babylon and could not find any of those or any recently installed suspicious programs. I then went to the Explorer homepage, Tools, Manage add-ons and found this suspicious add-on: Perk Prize Panel and under publisher it said Control Name is not available and it is enabled. I tried to disable it and the system would not let me. I then selected more information and found the following: Name: Perk prize Panel Publisher: Control name is not available Type; Browser helper Object Status; Enabled Version; Not available…

Hello, fellow Linux users! I've recently been searching for a Linux forum since iFans.com (which is a forum that I am daily active at) doesn't really have that big of a Linux community. Anyway, I've been a Linux user since 2006. I know my way around most distros, giving me the comfort to exclusively use Linux. Well, sometimes I use the iMac, but it's very rare that I do so. I used to be a HUGE distro hopper, but I have finally settled down on two distros that I think I can stick to for a long time (I've literally tried at least half of the Distrowatch list). I have an old desktop that I run Peppermint OS 4 on and a laptop with Xubuntu 13.10 (which I customized wi…

I'm a Linux n00b, and as for Windows, I am you're average joe. Not computer illiterate, but not exactly computer savvy. My problem is various distros won't connect to wifi. On some versions of Ubuntu (newest for example), and a few other distros, the connection wizard/setup thing, will find the name of my network, allow me to select it, and connect, but ask me for my password, and then fail. On Ubuntu and Fedora, it just won't connect, as if the password is wrong. On Slacko-Puppy I get some feed back on the problem. I get DHCP client failed to negotiate with wireless network 'mynetwork'. I get that when choosing the SNS from Puppy. When using Frisbee from Puppy …

Google is cutting the price of thier Google Drive storage offerrings. The most drastic of these is the 1TB option, previously available for $49.99 per month, and has been dropped to $9.99 per month. The most expensive option presented is 10TB for $99.99 per month, though Google says you can get more if you need it. Users will still get 15GB free, and the storage applies to multiple Google services, including Google+ and Gmail, according to Google: We've lowered the price of our monthly storage plans to $1.99 for 100GB (previously $4.99), $9.99 for 1TB (previously $49.99), and $99.99 for 10TB, with even more storage available if you need it. Titanfall is one of the hottest new games of the year. Right now it's an exclusive for Microsoft platforms — Windows, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. But if the developer has its way, Titanfall might be headed to the Mac, too. Titanfall is a first person shooter developed by Respawn Entertainment. Emphasizing small-scale multiplayer combat, the game's hook is the ability to pilot titans — mech-style walkers, each with unique abilities. Vince Zampella is the CEO of Respawn, and he maintains an account on Twitter. Responding to a tweet about the possibility of a Mac version, Zampella said: @TZB17 We are talking to Aspyr, they should do it — Vince Zampella (@VinceZampe…

I have recently been having problems with my laptop and starting digging into the web history. Someone had visited a couple of **** webcam sites earlier that day and I didn't delete them. I keep the computer by my side that night and when I got up, I noticed that a **** webcam site had been accessed an hour earlier. My computer crashed a month later and I had the hard drive recovered. On the hard drive under a recovered file section, there were alot of **** webcam snapshots (ladies and men sitting in front of a computer). My spouse denies any knowledge of this. Could someone be hi-jacking my computer? Also on our iPad, it had alot of **** sites and webcam sites in the Web…

Several relatives of mine whom I occasionally provide technical assistance for are still running XP SP3 on their systems. Those systems are too outdated and underpowered to be upgraded to a newer version of Windows, and it will likely be some time before they are in a position to upgrade to newer hardware capable of running more modern versions of Windows. If in the meantime, something happens to one of their computers that would require a reinstallation of Windows after support for XP ends, but before they can get a newer computer, I have a couple questions about what would happen: Will there still be some way to activate their existing copies of XP during the …
