An attacker could cause remote code execution if someone was convinced to open a specially crafted Rich Text Format (RTF) file or a specially crafted mail in Microsoft Outlook while using Microsoft Word as the email viewer.

I have the equipment for a network installed, router and modem as a result of have AT&T's U-verse service. I have purchased a new computer with Windows 7 installed. I still have my old XP Windows computer which is connected to the gateway router. When I read the instructs for using the network to transfer data it says to connect both computers to the router (which I can do) and start both computers as an administrator user. Hi We have a client with 70 locations they are running there Point of sale machines with Windows XP SP3. We need to upgrade all their POS's to WE-POS Ready 2009 since it still has support available for 2 to 3 more years. I just bought a brand new laptop from Dell, running Windows 8. When downloading various programs to set it up, I noticed that the downloads were a lot slower than I was expecting. I went to a speedtest website, to find out that my download speeds were dismal! .25mbps-.75mbps download!!! After looking for hours online, I decided to plug my laptop directly to the router and got ~35mbps!!! I tried my old (2006 Dell) laptop, and it had the normal download speeds so I know it isn't a distance issue or something wrong with my ISP. My preferred browser is Chrome, but I've also tried in IE. Hi, I have an asus notebook, it came pre-installed with windows 8, the hard drive died, I need to re load windows 8 onto a new hard drive but i have no product key as i cant access it on the system bios, very frustrated as asus wont give me an iso or key, tell me i have to send it in and pay them to replace the os, seems wrong after ive paid for windows 8 with the notebook, any one know where i download windows 8 iso? my product key is hard coded in the motherboard so it will be recognised (supposedly) and then its a genuine windows 8 download, all help appreciated as microsoft have also told me they cant help me its asus that must, but they dont , so... thanks …

Short version: I have a laptop that I can't log on to with a local administrator account and the netlogon service is stopped, so I have no way to log on using active directory credentials (domain admin), start the netlogon or update the machine. What can I do? Longer version: A coworker in IT was trying to update an app on the laptop and was having problems, he decided that the fix was to run msconfig and restart the machine in diagnostic mode. Unfortunately, we do not know the password for the one local admin account on the machine (we thought we did) and since diagnostic mode disables the netlogon service we can't use our domain admin credentials either. Hello, I'm having an issue with windows explorer. I can access my photos from my iphone, and I can even copy several of them to my computer; however, when I try to copy the entire 3.5gb folder, the transfer will hang. Upon canceling the transfer, it just says "cancelling" and won't close until i exit the explorer window with the iphone drive open; this too stops responding, and must be forced to close. The screen flashes and windows explorer restarts. I tried transfering the folder to a portable drive; however, it crashed after transfering about 70% of the files. I have a lot of documents that are well in excess of 100 pages. As long as the documents are txt or rtf, the index can show results for a word or phrase search as long as the word or phrase is within that first 100 pages. That appears to be the limit. If the word or phrase only appears at some point beyond the first 100 pages of the document it will show no results for that document. (Also, even though I configured the index to search file contents of wps documents, my preferred word processor program, Windows 7 has never been able to search the contents of a wps file at all). Hi, I am running Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit, both on a desktop PC and on a Surface tablet. On both systems, I have 'Real Time Protection' enabled on Windows Defender, and I always install all MS Updates as soon as they're available, plus all my 3rd party software is fully patched too. Periodically (say once every 2 to 4 weeks) I manually run a "full scan" in Windows Defender. The past few months, these full scans keep coming up detecting malware (I've had a "GamaRue worm" a couple of times, and a password stealer trojan another time...) I have an external hard drive and when I plugged it in every file/folder suddenly became a shortcut to my recovery D drive. D:siijuix.exe. My file names are the same but I cannot open them. Error message is; the item ''siijuix.exe''at this shortcut refers to as being changed or moved. So this shortcut will no longer work properly. This siijuix file is showing on my D drive but it does not allow me open it and to contact the publishers. I can't find anything about this. Is there anything I can do to recovery my files?
