I have been given my new Acer laptop by my dad who no longer needs it. I disabled his McAfee security and installed my own Norton product. It runs Windows 8.1 instead of 7. In my old Acer notebook I had Norton plus Windows Defender running side by side, but I can't seem to turn Windows Defender on because Norton is there. I keep getting pop ups that I know are malicious because Norton tell me they are. How can I turn on Windows Defender safely? Do I need to disable Norton first or is there another way. Norton protected my old notebook excellently when used with Windows Defender so I am a bit scared to only use one. HELP!!! Continue reading...

I have noticed that on Windows 8.1, which came installed on my Toshiba laptop, that most security suites which say they are compatible with windows 8.1 are not truly compatible. Every suite that I have tried, including Bitdefender for windows 8/8.1, all have issues, and cause issues with Windows 8.1. When I remove them completely, and start Windows firewall and Defender, the problems disappear. Did Microsoft Intend that Windows Defender be the Security for Windows 8.1? This is not intended to be a criticism of Microsoft or Windows 8.1 but an observation. I realize that no security program is perfect and that a lot depends on ones browsing habits. It says "Your Malwarebytes Anti Malware trial version will expire in 2 days (the number of days started at 5 days and it is now down to 2 days) click here for more information. Is this legitimate? I installed the free version of MalwareBytes on my computer and do not believe that I installed the trial version. Could you suggest how I should re-act to this pop-up? Thanks for your help. Someone I know keeps telling me to use iobits on my laptop HP G60-635Dxin7 64 bit. I have always come to MS community for the advice of folks here and follow your directions always!. one tech here told me to always use MS tool, programs ect, and I have taken that advice. he said that he didn't like those tools because they may harm the registry. makes sense to me. he also recommends Ccleaner, which I haven't used. I stay with my windows disk cleaner and use my Kaspersky anti-virus program. my question is.... Are the window disk cleaner and my Kaspersky really all I need to do the job of what this friend recommends I use? Ccleaner and iobits. I need to know if an…

One of iOS 7's signature features is "depth" and by that Apple means transparent layers with gaussian blur filters beneath them. While that might look fancy it can also be distracting for some people and, for those with visual impairment, it can be downright confusing and hard to use. Luckily, iOS 7.1 has added the ability to reduce transparency and render everything from the Dock to the keyboard to Control Center and Notification Center nice and opaque. How to reduce transparency in iOS 7.1 for better visibility in menus, keyboards, and more Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 7.1 or higher. Tap on General. In the next menu tap on Accessib…

I've gotten used to a Mac magic mouse, which is also similar to scrolling on an Apple touchscreen. I've been switching to my Windows computer and it's confusing me trying to switch back again. I was wondering if there was some secret way to invert the direction of the scroll wheel on the mouse. It just needs to scroll up instead of down, and down instead of up. I don't want the mouse to move down when I move it up. I just want to change the scrolling. Is that even possible with Windows XP? I looked through the Mouse option in the Control Panel and couldn't find it. Thanks for the help! Continue reading...
