My mouse has a wicked mind of it's own. It is jumpy and at times races all over the screen. I have uninstalled it from Device Manager more than six (6) times, then went to the Action Tab to select Scan For Hardware Changes, to no avail. Please help me with this extremely annoying haunted mouse. I posted APC_INDEX_MISMATCH last month (not fixed) and he told me last night that the mouse issue is probably a malware problem. Hi there, I am hoping you can assist me with the removal of a flying spaceship virus everytime I open a website. I know where it was downloaded from and as it was downloading I stopped the program but obviously not in time. http://www.androidtapp.com/hyperquiz/ The androidtapp.com site seems legit, the flying saucers come on most sites within a few seconds but only last a minute or so before going but I have noticed that after this the sites seem slower. If you need any info please feel free to ask as I am a bit new to this occurring!! Area 51 is alive on my laptop! Thank you, Ddh Moved from Internet Explorer Original title: Virus…

Is there an official Linux radio on the Internet and is there a way to listen to the Linux radio (or some free radios) in a free way (with minimal resources)? Let us say, the aplay Linux application in my system has only 64kb of binary size (with its sources taking even less size in .c). Is it enough to play Internet waves in terms of sound? In the sense of minimalistic program-purpose paradigm? Otherwise which program is in charge of necessary and sufficient paradigm? Continue reading...

I am interested in the theory, programming and administration of Operating Systems and Networks. I am interested in Open Source exclusively, hence Linux. From my research and a little intuition, I forsee a future in which most business IT infrastructure will migrate to the cloud. This will cause a split in the traditional role of the system administrator; some will specialize in configuration, monitoring, management, scripting, deployment, automation; they will use the associated tools and work with cloud providers on behalf of their clients (the clients of the system administrator). The other side will be hardware specialists working primarily at the data-centers. I …

Hey all, I am a complete and utter noob at Linux in general. I just installed it (Linux mint 16). I have an AMD Phenom II 840T Quad-Core Processor and a GTX 430 Graphics card. So when I play games with Linux installed (like Kerbal Space Program and Rust) I can definitely tell that something is amiss. I could play Kerbal at maybe 60 FPS on windows and its maybe less than 20 at times now. It feels like Linux is not utilizing my graphics card and potentially my additional CPU Cores. Am I wrong about this? Also I have read about making a custom Kernel and wanted to know what that was all about! Thank you so much in advance! (P.S. go easy on me I have barely even figured out…

The Game Developers Conference is kicking off in San Francisco this week, and we'll be there hobnobbing with developers, getting previews of upcoming mobile games, and getting some popular thoughts on the state of the industry. Namely, we'll be talking to a lot of game creators about their thoughts on the freemium business model. Despite its prevalence among the most commercially successful titles on the App Store, there's still a strong voice for core gamers that want to pay for their games up-front and be done with it. Last year most of the previews we got were on iOS devices, so expect to see lots of stuff coming soon for iPhone, iPad, and maybe even Mac. It's go…

I use Apple's Reminders app to keep track of all kinds of things — to-dos I need to complete, items I need to pick up at the grocery store, movies I want to watch, and more. I can create reminders using Siri and, thanks to iCloud, I can access them on my iPhone, iPad or Mac. It's almost a perfect solution. There's just one feature I'd really love to see Apple add to the Reminders app in iOS 8 — the ability to share reminder lists right from my iPhone and iPad. I have many lists inside Reminders that I've created over the past several years. I use Fantastical on my iPhone and both of my Macs. Since there isn't an iPad version of Fantastical yet, I stick with the stock R…

iOS 7 brought with it a new, unified palette for everything from icons to interface elements, including the tint colors give to the new "naked" style text buttons. Unfortunately for some people those tint colors are just a little bit too bright to be read comfortably, especially on the primarily white backgrounds. Luckily, iOS 7.1 gives you the ability to darken those colors and hopefully make them much more legible. Best of all, it's easy to do! How to increase font and menu visibility with the darken colors option in iOS 7.1 Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 7.1 or higher. Tap on General. Now choose Accessibility. On the next menu, tap…

Hello, I was using ZTE dongle (Airtel 3g) for the last one year. But recently I connected one Huawei dongle, that time I faced some difficluties while connecting. I uninstalled the connectivity software of Airtel. Then installed "mobile partner" connectivity software for Huawei dongle. Everything worked fine. Now I want to install and use ZTE dongle again. So I uninstalled "Huawei driver & mobile partner s/w". I have connected the Airtel 3g dongle(ZTE MF 190U HSUPA USB Stick), and installed the connectivity software from the stick. After finishing installation, task bar pops up "new h/w found". And the following messages came. Welcome to the Found new Har…

HI, two optical drives in my XP system, one CD writer and one DVD writer. When I insert a CD containing 3 or 4 folders with mixed files into one drive, an autoplay box comes up within 5 seconds and ask me what program I'd like to open or use Explorer to browse the contents, etc, etc. However, inserting the CD into the other drive, sometimes nothing happens, other times the autoplay window will appear after about 60 seconds delay. Nothing wrong with the drives. I have a second install of XP on this same PC and in there, everything works OK. Any assistance appreciated. EDIT - this odd symptom was resolved after using Disk Management…

Recently I was trying to capture a job by pausing a print queue, printing a job and copying the files out of the spool (under C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\PRINTERS) before unpausing the queue. However, when I try to copy the files I get the error message "cannot copy filename: it is being used by another person or program". I tried this several times with the same result. Obviously the only way to get the file unstuck is t unpause the print queue and they will be promptly deteleted shortly after. Is there a way I can grab these files? Assume changing the port to "File" to do a print to file is off the table. I ran this under administrator user permissions. Continue readin…

What's wrong with Windows 8? All the time you hear some whiner complaining about how much they hate 8 but why? Probably because they are don't know how or are too afraid to use it. Windows 8 is a great operating system! I changes the way you work with a computer. Now instead of a start menu you have a beautiful and fully customizable start screen. In fact when I started using Windows 8's start screen I found that the traditional start menu was kind of... boring. People see Windows 8's desktop and immediately start whining that there is no start button. If they would even give poor 8 a chance and stop complaining they would see Windows 8 DOES have a start button, Its just …

Hi I have recently purchased a Dell XPS8700 which came with a 2Tb drive and a 32Gb SSD drive used for Cache'ing. This booted and loaded fine, but after a lot of reading and discussing the pros/cons, decided to purchase and install a Intel 530 120Gb SSD. I also used a cloning tool to clone the original C drive to the new SSD drive which really worked very well. I used this configuration for about 1.5 months , then after I changed a system setting, enable processors and use all memory (which I have done on W7 on work Latitude), the machine would no longer boot. Using the Dell Recovery functionality I could not get the machine to reboot, so thought I would try the Recov…
