I use MS Security Essentials. Latest scan of laptop found and removed a worm. Ran a scan on the USB flash drive and found the same worm. The problem is that the flash drive had just been used on my desktop and that was also misbehaving (browser crashing when trying to attach files). Ran scan on desktop but no threats detected. Then ran Safety Scanner with no result. What more can I do to search for malware? Continue reading...

When I reach 15 posts I will be allowed to post links and pictures of Android Desktop 2.0, please be patient I am importing my post from Android Central/XDA Developers. On a note, I've been working on this concept for a little over a year now, and I've pushed it into phase 3.0. I have a lot of people who've been quite interested in this and are quite big fans of the idea, but they keep asking me if they can try it out, and well the answer is no because it is not coded. I've been told to come here and start this post and see about starting Android Desktop from a linux kernel and build on it. I was told to seek out help and those who are/will be just as interested …

Hello All, I am new to this forum and newbie to Linux as well. I want to implement an IO/disk scheduling algorithm (e.g. FCFS, SSTF, SCAN etc) for Linux kernel. I have my own algorithm approach which I want to implement for Linux. I have installed VMware and Fedora on my machine. But I have no idea where to start implementing the algorithm now. I don't even know how to compile the Linux kernel code in fedora. This is all what I know about Linux right now. So my questions are: 1 - How to compile Linux kernel code in fedora? 2 - How shall I implement disk scheduling algorithm and what will be involved from start to finish implementing the disk algorithm for Linux Ke…

Sebastien Marineau-Mes, BlackBerry's SVP of Software, is leaving the ailing smartphone manufacturer for brighter and warmer pastures: Apple. Or at least that's what he's trying to do, if it weren't for those pesky contracts. As revealed in a recent ruling from the Ontario Superior Court of Justice document, Marineau-Mes began discussing leaving BlackBerry for Apple back in September 2013, and was formally offered the position of Vice President of Core OS in December. He accepted the position and offered his written resignation to BlackBerry on December 23rd, advising them that he'd likely be heading out to Apple in two months time. That's where the legal dispute of Bla…

Twitterrific, the popular Twitter client for both iPhone and iPad, has just been updated to version 5.7 which brings with it a new freemium model. While new users can try before they buy, those who have already purchased the app will have all features unlocked automatically. The Twitterrific app for iOS previously sold for $2.99 on the App Store. Any user who bought the app prior to version 5.7 won't notice any difference and should automatically see all the premium features unlocked. The freemium model of Twitterrific lets users try out the service without having to pay up front. You can then choose to purchase push notifications, remove ads, and buy translation se…

Apple is rolling out a new feature to their App Store search that recommends search terms related to a user's current search. When a user searches for something in the store, a new bar will appear, just below the search bar on the results page, which will recommend related items. Users can scroll through the bar and tap an item to see results for the term. Following a suggested search will also yield more new suggestions. The feature also seems to be restricted, for now at least, to the App Store on the iPhone, according to MacStories: Multiple suggestions can be selected in a single session: searching for “indie games”, for instance, displays suggestions for “actio…

This is the week that many Mac and iOS fans have been waiting for – Macworld|iWorld 2014 kicks off in San Francisco. The event happens at the Moscone Center – it officially gets underway tomorrow with the MacIT track and workshops, and the doors to the exhibit hall open on Thursday. This is a homecoming for me. I used to attend this show every year, but as circumstances changed I had to stop going. So this is the first year since 2011 I've had a chance to attend. Rene's already out in the Bay Area, and I'm prepping to leave my home base tomorrow morning. At this rate I'm just hoping to get out there in time – they're forecasting a major winter storm for the Boston area…

Apple is sending letters to eligible customers regarding its recent settlement with the Federal Trade Commission regarding in-app purchases, offering refunds for some instances where children were able to make these purchases without the parents' knowledge or permission. In order to claim their refund, customers will need to find their in-app purchase records, send their request to Apple, and provide details about the purchases. Apple also says that they are introducing new parental controls that will make these purchases more difficult in the future, according to Apple Insider: We've heard from some customers that it's too easy for their kids to make in-app purchas…

Just a general question. No problems. XP Pro, SP3. I downloaded a free program to try it out but after a few days I decided to remove it. I used the add/delete list and removed it but I thought I'd check the registry also. Don't know why. Just curious. It was gone from the add/delete list but there was some entries still in the registry. I did nothing with the registry. I searched for other programs I've deleted over the years and found their enrties also. Is this normal for programs to leave crumbs behind? Continue reading...

Hi, I don't believe this, or a similar, question has been asked, so hopefully I'm not repeating another thread :) I would like to schedule iTunes (or potentially any media player) to start playing automatically every morning, and to shuffle through all of my music, or a playlist - in other words I don't want to hear just one song over and over again. I tried to set up a task in the Task Scheduler, and at the appointed time, the computer sounds like its trying to do something, the blue circle (instead of regular mouse pointer) appears, but then nothing...tho the scheduler says the task is running. I have a Dell Inspiron laptop and Windows 8... would be …

Got a weird one here. I have a NeatReceipts mobile scanner (NM-1000). NeatReceipts 5.0 latest has been installed, and works. Yes, it scans fine. My normal routine is I start up Windows Fax and Scan, scan in a document, and have Evernote auto-import that for safekeeping. I find Neatreceipts... cumbersome. I have gotten this to work fine in Win7 on my laptop, thought I'd do the same on my new desktop with Win8, no such luck. This is a new Win8, with all the latest patches available from Microsoft and maker. (V6.3 build 9600 if you must ask). I can acquire an image by going to control panel, devices and printers, and there is NeatReceipts Mobile Scann…
