Hello, This is my first time installing Linux. I downloaded Lubuntu 13.10 32 bit, burned the image to a cd, rebooted, set the BIOS to read it first, installed, and set the BIOS back to reading the HDD first. I read several tutorials both before, during and after the installation, got a partition at the end of the HDD, 6GB, for swap space, a partition before it, 120GB large, ext4, for Linux, both logical. After finishing the installation I took the Lubuntu CD out, closed the tray, and rebooted. It went straight to Windows, and has been doing that every time since. Now, I looked in google, several tutorials and this very forum, and they all say that I'm supp…

Hi, sometimes (rare case) happen that a mysql table got "crashed" and so the website stop working. so my idea is to create bash script which will run hourly/daily (welcome advice) and check all databases tables on linux server. If table is crashed, it will try to fix it and also send an email to admin. Email: "It appears that table $tablename" in $dbname database was crashed and there was an attempt to repair it. Please check if corresponding website works." this checks all dbs and autorepair Code: mysqlcheck -u [username] -p[password] --all-databases --check --auto-repair aditional parameters: Code: -C, –check-only-changed Check tables that are changed sinc…

Hello, new to the forms. Ive been using linux for a while and know my way around a live cd and how to make them and everything. But I just recently reformated my laptop and want to do it really well this time. My hard drive is 640 gigs or so, I made a 500 gig extended partition, a 50 gig boot partition with ntfs, and the rest I made linux swap space (yes I know thats alot but I had nothing else to do with it.). I went through the extended partition and divided it up into 5, 100 gig partitions all formated ext4. I am looking to install a good open source bootloader that can sense multiple installations automatically, which I am using plop bootloader right now (If you have …

Twitter updated their app to version 6.3 today, bringing photo tagging and the ability to tweet multiple photos at once. Twitter says that the goal of this is to make photos more social. You can now tag up to 10 people in a photo that you tweet. Importantly, tagging doesn't use any characters, so you still have all 140 for a message. To tag someone, select one of your photos and tap on "Who's in this photo" when it comes up. Then type and select the name of the person you want to tag. You can add up to nine more names to the photo. After the photo is tweeted, tags will appear next it, and let users navigate to a tagged person's profile by tapping their name. You can…

The Omni Group has announced that OmniFocus 2 for Mac, the latest version of their popular project and task management application, has entered the final testing phase, on track for a June release. The app was originally previewed last year, and met with positive reception from testers. But after viewing some feedback, and seeing the directions OS X and iOS were moving in, the Omni Group decided to reexamine OmniFocus 2, particularly the design. Taking cues from iOS 7, the design aims to feel new and adaptable while preserving the great features of OmniFocus 2, according to the Omni Group blog: We paused our test builds and went back into heads-down mode to focus on…

If you use the Facebook app on your iPhone or iPad, you can easily create events for parties and get togethers, no computer required. Unfortunately Facebook has decided to somewhat bury the feature, which has left a lot of people scratching their heads. If you're one of the ones who couldn't find it, follow along and we'll show you where it's at! How to create a Facebook event in the Facebook for iOS app Launch the Facebook app on your iPhone or iPad. Tap on the More tab in the bottom navigation. Tap on the dropdown arrow next to the Apps section in order to expand all. Find Events in the Apps list and tap on it. In the upper right hand corner, tap on the + sym…

Clear by Realmac is a massively popular iOS app, and today they're giving us a look at the next addition, reminders. We'd previously heard reminder functionality was being added to the app, and now on the Realmac blog we're told to expect the update sometime in early April. As we wrap up work on the iOS and Mac releases, I just wanted to let you know where we’re at. The team has been working incredibly hard to make this happen, however we also want to make reminders as intuitive as possible - and that means we’ve been constantly tweaking and refining how things work. The changes mean we’ve over-run from our (already-delayed) March launch - and we’re now looking to r…

Same issue store bought Dvd's won't play everything else will, DRM reset makes no difference. It blacks the screen and stops dvd playback. All other players work fine, my drivers are current and OS is a new install. IT should work but doesn't. Another Issue Microsoft does not seem to be able (or willing) to correct. I find several people with the same issue dating back to 2009 to today but no solutions that work. Everyone ends up downgrading to WMP 11 or using VLC or other software. I like WMP but this is ridiculous, there must be a solution. And why does it tell us we need a new video driver when we clearly have the newest one, and even rolling back to other versions has…

Hello everybody, I have XP Pro fully updated on a DELL VOSTRO 1510 and I'm experiencing two different issues. 1- if I try to restart the computer everything seems to work fine but, once the monitor has turned black, the machine does not restart. It looks like it is in suspension mode, the fan starts and stops from time to time, and the POWER led is still on. There is no way to wake it up or shut it down though, unless I force a stop by keeping the power button pressed for several seconds. When I restart the pc, it works perfectly and there are no errors listed in the registry. 2- If I shut it down I often get a BSOD with the following info ==============…

For a long time I have had an impression that using Hibernate is a bad idea because it can cause problems when computer comes back to life. Problems such as 'slow in reconnecting to network', etc. Now in Windows 7, Solid State drives and faster computers world, is that still true? Or does Hibernate option work better these days? I would like to get feedback from the community so I can decide whether or not enable this option. Continue reading...

I have a wireless radio transmitter plugged into the line-out port of my computer. The transmitter broadcasts to my wireless speakers which are scattered throughout the house. They are quite old but work well. I like to listen to internet radio (Pandora, etc.) with them. However, on some tunes, the bass is much too loud and becomes distorted. There is no bass adjustment on these speakers, nor on the transmitter. I can adjust my computer speakers (not wireless) by physically turning knobs, but of course those don't influence the wireless speakers. On my old XP, I was able to bring up bass and treble adjustments by right-clicking the volume icon in my tray where the …
