I have albums with tags properly set and under any other music app, all of the songs of a certain album, appear under one entry but in Windows 8 built-in app, each songs has one entry. This doesn't happen with every album and I always use the same app to set tags (MP3Tag) so it's not that app that's causing the problem. Of course, the filter is set to Album, not Song (if I set to songs then all songs should have their own entry which is not the case here) Here are some screenshots: This is one of the albums with problems. The tag for the album field is "Guitar Freaks V3 & Drummania V3" Every song of this album has the same tag and like I said, in ot…

Original Title: 2011 HP laptop with pre-installed 8.0: Should I risk updating to 8.1? While trying to update an older Desktop with XP to Windows 8 I had a Microsoft tech spend 1 hour taking control of the computer and still the installation failed at 90% with no reboot. When I click on "failure window" computer just goes back to XP as if nothing happened. I am close to leaving in XP and disabling internet. Already checked for compatibility issues. I went to this community site and found many having troubles updating from Windows 8 to 8.1 and from XP to Windows 8. Question: Should I leave my good laptop (works fine as is) with Windows 8 alone and not give…

For the past few months, I've been constantly getting blue screens/ BSODs. My computer runs on Windows 7. The occurrences have started up again, despite my shutting the laptop down when I finish using it (which I thought was the cause of my computer troubles). My Norton Security Suite has been needing attention, but I cannot complete the disk optimization without my computer crashing and/or getting a blue screen. I've been looking up similar problems online, and from what I deduced, my laptop was having some troubles with either the memory card or RAM. Maybe I'm wrong, because when I run the Windows Memory Diagnostic (at least the standard tests), nothing is detected. Her…

I am using .cmd batch files. I have: echo Project List as of %DATE% %TIME%>project-list.txt echo -------------------------------->>project-list.txt for /f %%x in ('dir/s/b d:\prj\do7z.cmd') do ( set f=%%~dpx echo %f:~7,-1%>>project-list.txt echo %f:~7,-1% ) start notepad project-list.txt there are problems with the cmd shell. if I simply do del project-list.txt at the top of the .cmd file, it will complain when I append (>>) that the file does not exist. this doesn't happen in other instances when I am using append redirection (>>). the variable f seems to change, but %f:~7% is always the same value for some rea…

My computer is running very slow. I have AVG virus software loaded and Windows Defender. I tried to run a scan using Windows Defender. When it came to the following: C:/windows/system32/wiavideo.dll the computer froze up. So I had to shut if off and turn it on again. I then tried to do a scan using Microsoft Security Scanner that I downloaded from Microsoft's website. It too froze up solid when it reached the same wiavideo.dll. I need to know what this is and whether I should get rid of it. If so, how do I do that? I have little technical knowledge so I will need step by step instructions and details on what this is. Thank you. Continue reading...

I just got a call from this Korean girl with a very heavy accent and she said she was from windows Microsoft. She said my machine was sending a lot of error messages and warnings and she was going to fix it remotely. She wanted me to download a program called TEAMVEIWER and she would show me all the errors and warnings and she would fix them and my machine would run like new. I never heard of anything like this. Can you tell me anything about this? I told her I was not going to give control of my machine to anyone. She got a little defensive and I think I was on to her. Told her to call me tomorrow that I would ask someone about this. She sounded like she didn’t like tha…

Can any one help me with this issue please? The other day I was updating FireFox and after the update the browser did the usual thing of opening up to the "Thank you for downloading page " blabla. But it then also at the same time opened another tab/page to what I thought was a Java update page. So I figured I had to update the Java software as well. But this was a mistake. I was tricked in to downloading a lookalike garbage software package and got all kinds of garbage on my computer. So anyways I was able to get rid of almost all of it except a file called VuuPC. Got rid of most of those components as well and now I have this file still stuck on my machine cal…

This morning I was working on an ESXi host. (It has an ip address, and one vm built on it using an existing disk image). I had problems powering on the vm because it kept saying the source disk was not found. To troubleshoot this problem, I ran a few commands on the ESXi command line. But still it returned with the same error. But oddly, all of a sudden, there was an Internal Server Error problem when we (company staff) try to access the company's ticketing system and company wiki system. Can this VM problem relate to the internal server problem? Was wondering what shall I check (/var/log/xxx) or troubleshoot to resolve this problem? I tried checking /va…

Here's a version of cribbage that steals code from bsd-games but isn't a crappy text-only thing. It uses X and SDL and glib. It also has stolen stuff from gnome-games and other places. It works. Then secret is that the pone is *really* smart when it comes to cribbing. He'll whoop yer arse if yer not careful. That's the bsd code from 1982 or something. I deliberately did not make pone play smart. He just plays off the top and still pegs pretty good. Pone will skunk you. Often. See attached. Will you be getting Office for iPad? So, it's finally happened. Microsoft Office is finally on the iPad after Microsoft formally introduced it at an event today. Office is one of those packages that some absolutely live in, and it's still one of the very best at what it does. As the iPad has grown in popularity over the years, Office has been noticably absent. But now that it's here, will you be getting it? It's going to be extremely useful for some of us, less so for others and there'll be plenty of folks who just have no need for it at all. But it's a welcome addition to the iPad app portfolio, either way. So, what about you? Are you going to be getting Office for…

Microsoft Office for iPad was the big news out of todays press event in San Francisco, but there were also some interesting looking developer tools discussed. For example, Microsoft showed off Office 365 single sign-on, using it with Docusign to access your cloud documents from within a third-party application. Such functionality isn't necessarily aimed towards the average consumer crowd, but in the business world having your relied upon apps being able to hook into your Office account is a big deal. In particular Microsoft mentioned iOS developers, and how having Office 365 integration would help them appeal to an enterprise crowd. Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, was…

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella spoke about why it took the company so long to release Office for iPad. Nadella said that they had been working on the iPad version of their productivity suite for some time, but they wanted to make sure they got all of the elements just right. It was necessary to make sure that all of the software was in place, then build an experience catered to the iPad, according to Recode: “We’ve been obviously working on this for a while,” Nadella told reporters. “The thing we wanted to get most right was the combination of what I would call the combination of the app, the enterprise architecture, the developer APIs and then marry it with the device…

On the back of today's Microsoft Office for iPad announcement, it's sibling app for the iPhone has gone free. When it launched you required an Office 365 subscription to use it, but as of today it's completely free for home use. Business users will still require an Office 365 subscription to create and manage documents. Of course, it's not the same piece of software as the new iPad version, not at all. The iPad is still where the power users will want to be, but if you're a frequent Office user it's great to see Microsoft open up the iPhone app to more of us. So, now it's free, will you be using it? Free - Download Now Continue reading…
