Sitting at your desk isn't just unhealthy, it can be dangerous - bad for your posture, bad for your circulation, and bad for your karma. Many people are opting for standing desks instead - desks designed to let you work while standing or walking in place on a treadmill. Ergotron can help you convert existing work surfaces with their Workfit series of stands - aluminum stands especially designed for the iMac and Mac laptops that clamp or bolt to your desk, raising the devices (and the iMac's keyboard) to a healthy height. Brace yourselves, people of Turkey, for a shiny object — likely composed of sheets of stainless steel and massive glasses edifices — is about to land in Istanbul: an Apple Store. The first such retail outlet in Turkey is set to open at 10AM on April 5th in the Zorlu Center luxury mixed-use development — so says the new listing for the new store on Apple's online store finder. Photos posted on Webrazzi and Shirli Elma show the store currently wrapped in a deep blue minimalist teaser of the store to come. It appears to be a massive location, spanning two stories in the middle of the Zorlu Center's shopping complex and even sprouting out the top in between the hi-rise por…

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. — you might know them better has Foxconn, manufacturer of many things Apple — saw their net profit last year rise 13% on the back of increased sales of iPhone and iPad devices. Pegatron, another major Apple manufacturer that is the primary source of the iPhone 5c and iPad Mini, saw their earnings jump 22% in just the last quarter. Both companies are dependent on Apple sales. Foxconn and Pegatron both draw more than 40% of their revenue from Apple, and both are expanding manufacturing in the United States for both marketing bonuses (made in the USA!) and cost savings on lower-volume devices. Devices like the Mac Pro, which is built in Texa…

The Apple Store app not only lets you pick up the latest Apple gear, no computer required — it also lets you gift things to others. One of the most common gifts we tend to give are iTunes and Apple Store gift cards. The Apple Store app lets you do that too, if you know where to look. Here's how: How to send an iTunes or Apple Store gift card from your iPhone with the Apple Store app Launch the Apple Store app only your iPhone. If you don't have it already, you can download it in the App store for free. Download Now In the top search bar type in gift cards. The search results should populate all the gift cards available. Just choose the one you'd like to send. Ne…

Hey there: Thank you for previous responses to my Windows Installer problems. I have tried the MSIexec /unregister, MSIexc /regserver, cmd, MSIexec /? on “run.” However, the problem still exists. I did go back as far as I could to a restore point on my PC to deal with it, but that did not work either. The installer now has a new message in it's window. When I turn on the PC the Windows Installer window appears almost immediately and continually re-appears. The window now states “The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package …

First off I must say that I bought this computer from someone else and it DID NOT come with any discs. My other computer at the time stopped working and this one was convenient to get, so I bought it haven't had any complaints because of HP support. I am using Windows XP on an HP Pavilion 563w. This computer came to me with a number of programs installed on it and up til now, I haven't had any trouble uninstalling any of the programs. Then I came to the Microsoft Works programs. There were two separate uninstall entries listed in the Add / Remove Programs list. The first was Microsoft Works 4.5 and the second was Microsoft Works Setup Launcher, which had to …

I'm about to upgrade to Windows 8 from XP but my XP doesn't have the backup facility. I never had the original installation CD and the techy I bought the computer from is no longer around. I just wondered if anyone could recommend a backup utility that I could use? I've only ever "copied" files in order to backup individual items to external harddrive in the past. Googling free backup systems has just confused me! Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks. Continue reading...

Hi, I know this issue is a dead horse hashed over again and again. And thank you for your help. Preparing for April 8th the best I can. Want to clean this mess first. Tight schedule. Don't know if these updates are of importance. Just appeared about 5-7 days ago. There are 4 Windows XP updates on my 2004 Sony Vaio that want to install upon logoff (on shut-off icon). And say sucessfully installed when I do this on the Windows Update page. But, after rebooting, the updates below do not show up in the Add/Remove Programs folder. Hence when I logoff it wants to install them again on the shut-off icon, eating up my C drive which is now down to 15%.. Just enough to defrag.…

Can I transfer a valid purchased Windows 8 licence from a computer I don't use to one I do use? I bought two Windows licence upgrades (from Windows 7) under a special offer, but only discovered later (and after the offer expired) that the second purchase didn't go through, and so I only have one valid activation key. By that time I had already used the key on the computer A, and had none for the computer B. Computer B is the one I want to use regularly, leaving computer A unused, so I am happy to remove Windows 8 from computer A in order to use the licence on computer B. I believe I will have to activate Windows on computer B by telephone, and remove the licenc…

Today suddenly I can sort by that column in my INBOX, but a short while ago I was able to sort by that column in my SENT folder. What is going on, and how do I fix it? When I sort by TO, generally the SUBJECT column gets sorted. Continue reading...

For nearly two weeks now I have suffered with a rash of BSODs. I have seen various stop codes and I have also had good system file checks and un-repairable system file checks. The proverbial straw that broke the camel's back was when I received a BSOD while the computer was sitting at the login screen for a few hours without any action on my part. I ran MemTest86 without issue so, yesterday, I resorted to restoring a backup from a couple of days before the first BSOD event. After the restore I updated my video and network drivers and uninstalled some unused and potentially conflicting programs. Everything was fine until another BSOD. I'm at a loss. Do I need to…
