Hello, My father-in-law asked me to help him with his laptop since he's been having a lot of problems with it. After a lot of work trying to fix the issues, we decided to re-install Windows since it seemed to be the easier solution. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the installation disk. After some research, I discovered that it is possible to download an ISO file of Windows 7 on Digital River and put it on a USB drive in order to create a pseudo re-installation disk. I looked under the laptop and saw that the Product Key was still visible on the sticker, so I went ahead and re-installed Windows 7 using a USB drive that had the proper ISO file on it. However, it's…

Hello, I would like to know if there is a microsoft tool and/or a Microsoft suggested checklist that would help me restore system files and system configuration to the appropriate state. I am not talking about system restore. I am not talking about retoring my computer to an earlier time, neither about restoring computer to the time of purchase. I believed my computer was compromised somehow and the intruder was accessing my unit through some kind of remote connection. I have received support from malware software company and I believe my computer is fine now. And so, the question with which I open this post: I would like to know if there is a Microso…

I created a new user with admin priviliges, but Mint told me "incorrect password" when it was the correct password. It also claimed my password was too weak when it was not. I used upper and lower case along with digits and special characters. I want an account to login in as a superuser. I am the ONLY user, so my computer is quite secure. I understand the need for most users to not need root access, but it is necessary for me to be able to work efficiently. Andy Continue reading...

I have installed an application MSGViewer, that enables me to read .msg files (Outlook eMail messages) The current use model is that I start MSGViewer application and drag&drop .msg file to open it. I would like to open .msg files by just double clicking the file, or using "right mouse => Open With" option in the File Browser. The problem is that "right mouse => Open With => Other Application => Show Other Applications" does not list MSGViewer, so I can't select it. How to add MSGViewer into Show Other Applications list in the File Browser? The MSGViewer.desktop is located in the right directory: Code: [boris@e6410dl ~]$ ll /usr/share/applicati…

It's a HUGE Op System. With all my little extras installed it's taking up over 13GB of my limited 32GB of SSD space. Point Linux 2.3 and SolydX only used up around 5GB after I installed all my extra stuff like Clementine, Clam, LibreOffice, Cheese, ect. I guess my SSD will be ok as long as there's more then half of it free but dang, I wish there was a way to uninstall some of the stuff I'll never use without fear of borking my system. Still, I guess in the end it's worth it to get a Distro that works like you want it to work and does things the way they're suppose to be done. Couldn't run Kino under SolydX and even OpenShot crashed all the time. Gnome Disk Utility l…

You know the drill. Apple has announced WWDC 2014 and that means there's new artwork to go along with it. This year it's a classic rainbow of app icon shapes whose negative space reveals the distinctive top of the Apple logo. We'll leave it to others to engage in the usual Apple-mancy, to read the artwork Apple leaves and try to determine if it means color displays on iWatch, icon scaling for a big screen iPhone 6, a new palette for iOS 8 or OS X 10.10 Syrah or — my personal choice — just a high-impact look by Apple's typically excellent graphic design team. But what's really important for now, some two months out, is... wallpapers! Grab the iPad version up top, the iP…

We got our hands on a great little game called Monument Valley at GDC which puts players dab smack in the middle of an Escher maze. The game’s now live, ready for players to work their way through a series of ten impossible buildings. The puzzles involve guiding a girl from one end of a structure to another, and to do so, you need to change the building and adjust the path of other surreal denizens. Though the game apparently isn’t terribly long, it does look absolutely fantastic. The devs told me their goal was to make every screen good enough to print and frame, and after putting some time into this title, you’ll have a hard time disagreeing. $3.99 - Download Now…

On my XP-Pro Sp3, the icons and any open pages, slowly fade from the top down and then return. When moving IE or pages on the desk top, echo images are still there (parts of the pages over another page) or they leave a trail of 6-8 page edges., then go away. Just updated drivers, defragged, clear cache and cookies every day. Seems it returned when I enabled Bing again. Bing is so slow, I thought it failed Also have an issue after having a page or game open, when closing, a window pops up that the web site is trying to close, this just started about a month ago and I have ignored it because it doesn't effect the game loading or playing. So I am trying to transfer some files and settings to my same computer that I had to re-install xp on. I have used it before with no issue but not this time... I saved the files (old) to my usb drive 1st of all it split it into 2 files which I thought was odd but I figured it was a size thing. 2nd I noticed they were .dat files not .unc like eveyone is talking about, but not until after I formatted and installed clean copy. In any event I have all they updates done on new install so SP's match etc. I then try to run migwiz and it doesn't recognize the file, I notice file saved as .DAT, I changed to .dat it starts to go then it asks for disk 2 so I p…

I have been trying to reboot my computer (not this one) and I continually reach a blue screen of death in the form of PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA STOP: 0x00000050( 0xDFFFFFF8, 0x00000000, 0x8053C7B1, 0c00000000) I can't boot the computer at all, nor do I think there is a recovery drive to reformat and reinstall windows. Booting into safe mode does not work, nor does last good configuration, or ANY boot mode on the list. Each one leads me to the blue screen before windows even loads.
