Original title: Cannot remove USB disk because it is in use Hello. Unknown program is using USB disk when I try safely remove it. Windows 8 tells me the disk is in use and asks me to close the program but nobody tells me the name of the program/process. I did read discussions here about Windows Defender. There I have unchecked "check USB disks" and have black listed all drives from "E:\" to "N:\". No help. I don't want disable Defender. I want plug USB disks in and plug out as soon as I have copied files. But now I don't want plug in any USB disks because I know I cannot unplug them. Specially not when I'm hurry to go somewhere…

It's the power control in the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section of the Device Manager and it has stopped working? When I click the start button in Properties: It says that: The system encountered the following error while attempting to start the service. The system cannot find the path specified. Also in Properties in the General tab it says that: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24). I'm not even sure what it is that it does. I do know that I have been having trouble with connecting with my printer wirelessly and wired!! OK! I fixed the printer problem so now I'm not sure what this is??? Any help would…

i was trying to optimize my laptop using windows 7 manager. i tried the find duplicate files then after it found ALL duplicate files (i think also system files) i deleted it. i was half asleep when i did that then returned back to sleep. the next morning i tried to do my work using sketchup 8, i cant open it anymore. it says vray failed to load message. obviously that was because of my clumsy mistake and i still dont know how much damage i made so i tried to do a system recovery but it says it cannot create a system restore point. i cant risk reformatting my laptop. my work will be affected in terms of my schedules and files. so suggestions anyone? i badly needed to fix t…

The 1st reboot after Windows Update applied KB2929437 was VERY slow and problem continues today. I have not uninstalled that patch. WU applied ONLY that patch on 4/17/2014 as my PC was already current with all other WU patches. Running W7 Home Premium SP1 64bit on a fast HP desktop with 8GB ram and large harddrive. After boot (takes several minutes both before and again after entering my boot password) the PC seems to run OK. I run AVAST free anti-virus on this PC. Anyone have the fix for this problem? Thanks in advance. Continue reading...

I recently got a virus on my computer which luckily I was able to catch. Microsoft Security Essentials did its job and caught the virus, and ALL my programs work just fine to my knowledge. The only problem I am now having is that some of the programs I have installed on my computer and work fine does not show up on my programs and features list, I have done everything I know how to do. At first I thought it could be a Registry Error, so I found a reliable tool to can my registry.....no problems. I thought it might be spyware or malware, which I use the paid version of malwarebytes-Anti Malware, no problems there either. I also downloaded the tool from Microsoft to scan fo…

Since around Wednesday, every time I run Microsoft Security Essentials it abruptly stops after reaching an item called \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE2\Partition0 (NTFS). Both the time elapsed stops and the interface become unresponsive, even after waiting a few minutes. I'm not sure what this is, and I can't seem to access it in Windows Explorer, either. Doesn't appear to be a "thing" I can navigate to: Continue reading...

So I was downloading the steam launcher onto my Debian today. I was following some online instructions to install the program and followed them all the way through. After i had finished installing it, I minimized my terminal and looked through my programs, of which there were none. I clicked Log Out to reboot my computer to see if that would help but it gave me an error message every time i clicked the log out button. It said something like the process was unable to run or something like that. I manually rebooted my computer and opened my OS but when i did there was no GUI. it opened in a command line and had only the "Login to wolf-PC:" text on the screen. I typed in my …

Flickr for iOS just got a complete overhaul, bumping the app to version 3.0 and bringing a host of new and welcome features. First thing you'll notice upon opening the new Flickr is the completely redesigned interface, bringing it to modern design standards on iOS 7. It also just looks plain better than the old version, even though it wasn't an ugly app before by any means. The app has also improved its suite of editing tools that were previously updated back in August. Continue reading...

Like most things in the technology world, if you wait long enough a good deal is bound to be found eventually. Such is the case with the iPhone 5s as starting Friday, RadioShack is reducing their pricing for the latest iPhone down to $99 in-store with a qualifying two-year plan on AT&T, Sprint or Verizon. If you're still hanging onto an iPhone 4S, the deal is possibly even better. RadioShack will take your iPhone 4s off your hands and give you a $100 credit provided the device is in working order. You can then use that credit purchase an iPhone 5s and ultimately bring the pricing down to free. RadioShack doesn't note any time frame for the $99 pricing but chance…

Want to take your spreadsheets, documents, and presentations from Dropbox and start using them with Apple's iWork suite of Numbers, Pages, and Keynote, and store them in iCloud? Luckily, both Dropbox and Apple make it easy to do. Here's how! How to transfer files from Dropbox to Pages, Keynote, and Numbers Launch the Dropbox app on your iPhone or iPad, navigate to the file you want to open in Pages, Keynote, or Numbers, and open it inside of Dropbox. Tap on the Share button in the bottom left hand corner. Now tap on Open In.... In the popup menu, tap on Pages, Numbers, or Keynote. For instance, if you're trying to open a spreadsheet, you'd have the option to ope…

Rogers just activated their fresh 700 MHz spectrum in a few regions across Canada. Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver are the lucky cities today, though we can expect a nationwide rollout eventually. 700 MHz has been widely described as “beachfront” spectrum that’s particularly good at penetration, so you can keep a signal in elevators and parking garages, for example. It also provides added stability to everyday LTE connections. Continue reading...
