I am not able to make any changes to my user accounts, can't add accounts ( when I attempt to add an account I receive the message" the specified account name is not valid because account names cannot contain the following characters" even though none of the specified characters have been used), can't change administrator etc...., -I have tried enabling the hidden admin account by using (net user administrator /active:yes) I have done this under the elevated command prompt as an administrator as well as in safe mode with the same result: "access denied" "system error 5 has occurred" I get the same response when trying to add a new user account through the elevated com…

Hello: Located on the lower Taskbar and to the right of the Start button I have my various programs, such as, Outlook, Excel, Windows Explorer, Internet Explorer etc. If you place your mouse over, for example, the Internet Explorer icon I used to have small thumbnail images to show me the various instances of open IE windows. But now the thumbnails are gone and have been replaced by line item entries. I have no idea what I did to change the view and I prefer the thumbnail view. Does anyone know how to resolve this problem? Thank you very much, Eric Continue reading...

Sometimes my laptop works for days no problem, then other days I switch it on and it just has a red cross on the internet icon, and it shows there are no other networks at all, and then eventually 10 to 15 minutes later it might decide to connect, if not I have to reboot the laptop and then sometimes it will connect. Sometimes it won't work for a few days. Today its not connecting at all. My laptop has pretty much always had this problem from new. I have made sure the network adapter has the latest drivers. I am currently using my partners laptop, and this laptop never has a problem, so I know its only my laptop and not my nternet thats the issue. Would s…

I have Windows 7 on my computer. The display screen remains on and computer has stopped going to sleep. It's always been set on Balanced, (Display screen 10 min. and Sleep screen 20 min.). This just started a couple days ago and I noticed when I restart my computer it made a couple beeps about 30 seconds apart. Sounded like the beeps it makes when you plug your phone in to your computer, however no boxes or window opened with any info about the beeping or detecting issues. Thanks in advance, your help would be appreciated. Continue reading...

I have blocker set to high - There are no sites on the "allowed list" - I am running Norton security suite DEll Inspiron comp with Windows 7, Internet explorer 11, 64Bit, X86 Awhile back I downloaded something, WinZip. With this installation came a "package" of trial products. One was Web Steroids which I read about and uninstalled with other 2 products. When these op ups appear I click on "View Source" and "Web Steroids" is always in the in the first or second line. I think this product is still on my computer even though I removed it from the Control Panel. (Remove programs) I did multiple searches but nothing comes up, I tried Microsoft Malicous Software Remov…

Hi, Newbie just switching from XP. Loaded this OS on my PC and laptop. The laptop is working fine. The PC has a problem. I have a dual boot with XP, but no problem there. I have two users and can't get into either one. The log-in screen does not accept keyboarding, and there are no questions as before (name and password). All I can do is restart, and the same thing happens again. Any suggestions? Do I need to reload the program? This is my first attempt at Linux and I am pretty ignorant about this. (P.S. the only thing I am aware of that I changed before the problem was I loaded my Xmarks bookmarks into my Firefox, but that doesn't seem likely to have affected the log-in.…

Good day, my Linux brethren. I salute you! I am running Kubuntu 13.10 as my sole OS on a Lenovo Ideapad S400 touch. I recently purchased a USB File Transfer cable which touts the ability to transfer files between MAC and Windows. For Windows, it uses a small .exe called EasySuite.exe to open a file-browsing window displaying the contents of folders on both computers. It works on the Windows 7 PC I am connected to, but not yet under Wine on my Leneovo. I have had such success getting wine to run my windows programs, I honestly thought I would have figured it out by now. Here is what happened when I tried to run the first time. After changing into the directory on the…

Comcast may branch out from cable and landline internet, moving into the wireless service arena in the future. According to a report out of The Information, Comcast has been looking into the idea of creating a nationwide wireless phone network that relies primarily on Wifi with back-up service leased from already-established cellular carriers. Instead of having to pursue purchasing large blocks of wireless spectrum and rights to traditional cellular towers, Comcast would leverage its currently-available network of Wifi hotspots to provide the majority of traffic for phones. Its Wifi network is growing with installations of public access points — over a million across v…

Don't despair if you didn't get WWDC tickets. There's something cool going on right next door, and it's totally free Now that Apple's announced the results of its lottery, you have a good idea as to whether you're going to be attending Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference in June. If you didn't get a ticket — or even if you did — there's an alternative happening at the same time that you can go to instead. It's nearby and it's absolutely free. I'm talking about AltConf. AltConf is in its second year - last year it was branded "AltWWDC" and happened at the San Francisco State University campus on Market Street, only a couple of blocks away from the Moscone Center w…

These include a personalized content stream, content scheduling, a topic explorer, and more. The content stream is based on your interests. When you see something you like, you can drag it up to the share window above the feed and share with Twitter, Facebook, or both. Edit your list of interests by pulling the feed to the right and releasing or tapping the menu button in the top left corner and selecting Topics. From the menu that appears, you can also select Create, Schedule, and Perks. Create will take you back to the content feed, where you can…

Microsoft launched Office for iPad nearly two weeks ago. Now iPad owners can enjoy view Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. Have (or obtain as Microsoft would like) an Office 365 subscription and you’re able to not just view documents, but edit them as well. The apps have seen over 12 million downloads since launch. The Office for iPad team just wrapped up an AMA on Reddit where they shared a lot of interesting facts about the product. Highlights from the Q&A below. Continue reading...
