Apple's iWork suite consisting of Pages, Keynote, and Numbers can store your documents up in iCloud and push them back down again to all your devices, iPhone, iPad, and Mac. However, sometimes when you try to open those files again, you get the dreaded "The operation couldn't be completed [LibrarianErrorDomain error 1 - Unable to initiate item download.)" or similar error. What it means is that the iCloud file has gotten lost in limbo. Luckily, what it doesn't mean is that your iWork file is lost forever. There's an easy fix! How to force iWork to re-sync a document from iCloud If you aren't able to open a file or document in Pages, Keynote, or Numbers that's …

Critics against "flattening" OS X say it takes iOSification a step too far. But does it? There's been some talk about OS X 10.10 code-named "Syrah," getting a "flatter" look. System icons would edge more towards how they look in iOS 7, losing some of their three-dimensional quality, and certain interface elements like buttons and window interfaces might be reworked. That raises the hackles of some long-time Mac users who fear what they see as an inexorable unification of OS X and iOS; one that began almost as soon as iOS became the operating system for Apple's dominant product lines. I don't think iOS and OS X are headed for a singularity any time soon. But I wou…

I'm running Windows XP Pro SPS-3 on a Dell computer whose age I can't precisely remember. When I try to run the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant, I get an error message saying that it's not a valid Win 32 application, and it just won't run. I haven't been able to find any articles or posts by other people with this problem, so I'm at a loss as to how I can find out whether my computer can run Windows 8. Any suggestions or thoughts? My computer has a 2GHz coprocessor and 3 GB of RAM, among other things, so it appears I should be able to make the switch. But, how do I go about determining that if I can't run the Upgrade Assistant? I've even tried Googling this question…

Hi, I am hoping someone could help me with a potential upgrade from WinXP to Win8.1. I have run the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant and it virtually instantly tells me that "This Platform is not Supported", and gives no clues about any problems. I have checked the system requirements and my PC seems to meet the minimum requirements, so I would be grateful for any advice that can be offered to resolve this. My system components are: - AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ - 4Gb RAM - Plenty of HDD space (2TB, 0+1 RAID) - 1TB useable HDD space. System drive (C:) is on separate 30GB partition. - GeForce 7950GT graphics card - just installed latest NVIDIA drivers (I think!)…

Why does windows XP launch multiple sessions of explorer.exe? I have seen 12 sessions of explorer.exe running at the same time and using up most of the memory. There have been times where the computer is not responsive such that I had to power down and restart. To prevent this from happening, I monitor the Task Manager and end one or more explorer.exe processes. What is using explorer.exe? How can I determine which programs may have launched a explorer.exe session? Microsoft Essential did find a virus: DOS/Rovnix.T and Win32/Rovinxgem!B and cleaned them. I also load a trial version of AVG which found some other issues and cleaned them. However, the multiple s…

Ok so my other computer is a Samsung with windows 8, my dad was using it and he made a virus, i learned this virus is called the Watchdog virus, it's a hoax pop-up, "virus protection" scanner and stuff...anyways it doesn't allow you to access any icons, except the trash bin and every document, you can see everything( i even identified the virus) but i cannot delete or open anything, i STILL have internet access, i have now tried to restart windows for troubleshooting...THE ONLY THING I GET IS: continue to window, use a device, and shutdown. OK sooo i have all these websites on my other computer telling me how to get rid of this, but all of them require me to get on a brow…

Many apps still work (mail, Internet Explorer, Kindle). For the apps that don't work, live tiles are updating and toast Notifications are firing off. I have been trying for months to upgrade to windows 8.1 on my ASUS i7 computer but It constantly fails. I have done all of the suggested steps shown on several of your forums to resolve the issue to no avail. I upgraded to windows 8 PRO with media center from windows 7 as soon as it was available. Now even though the upgrade to Windows 8.1 is shown in the store, it fails and will not install. My windows update list has been wiped and I am stuck with the system constantly trying to apply update KB2802618. I am unable to reset my windows (it constantly says there is a problem with the windows folder). When I try to reinstall windows 8 It fails at 90%. Many others ar…

I recently used the UNINSTALL feature of MS Windows 7 in the Control Panel, "Programs and Features" section, to uninstall a program that was installed by my computer manufacturer 'DELL'. This program was something like a multi-media "ribbon with 5-7 large buttons that I could chose to work with audio, photos, pictures, etc. In spite of my examining all of the "start-up" applications, I could not stop this ribbon from appearing when I booted my system. I could close it after I booted up, but I grew annoyed at doing this so I deleted it. What I did not know was that my Accu-Weather app was associated or linked to it, so that now, I have no desktop weather monitor. I …

I have a 3TB USB drive with a single, simple, primary partition spanning the whole disk. I want to shrink and create a second partition. I defragmented the drive and tried to Shrink Volume in Disk Management. The wizard reported 1.2TB available to shrink. I tried to shrink by just 700GB. No matter what shrink size I select it churns for an hour or two and finally reports: There is not enough space available on the disk(s) to complete this operation. How can I get this to work? Why would I get 2 different processing speeds showing on my computer? If I go to the Properties on My Computer, it shows 1.79GHz, but if I go to the System info in the Control Panel, it shows 777MHz. The reason this is important is because we are considering upgrading our XP computers to Windows 7, but min. requirement is 1 GHz. If I only have 777 MHz, then, presumably, Windows 7 won't run. Any help would be appreciated! Continue reading...

The directions for turning Windows Defender on do not work. Says I should click on the settings tab. There are no tabs. When I click on the Windows Defender App, I get a window that says "This app has been turned off & isn't monitoring your computer. If you're using another app for malicious or unwanted software, use Action Center to check that apps status". I checked Action Center and there is nothing there about ANY security program or app. I tried to download Microsoft Security Essentials but it would not allow because it told me that Windows Defender was already protecting my computer. But Windows Defender is turned off and I can't turn it on. So I guess my comp…
