Help! I have a Sony Vaio All-in-One. Periodically a radio wave -- like the waves made when throwing a rock in a lake -- pops up along with a bong sound on my screen. Usually in conjunction with a "next" pop up that includes an arrow. It only last a couple of seconds and then goes away but while it's up I can't type anything. If I'm fast enough I can click or touch the "next" arrow before it goes away but nothing happens when I touch it. Also, sometimes the screen zooms out to where I can't read it and sometimes it minimizes down to my task bar. I've also noticed if I press along the boarder of my screen the radio wave and the next sign appears. How to I stop this?…

I have installed Win7 on my computer using 'Custom Install', as I was advised to do. Data from my old hard drive has been stored on C drive under the folder name 'Windows-old'. I am having problems using Windows Transfer. It does not seem to give me the option of transferring files from a folder on C drive to places where I can use it eg. Word (I have installed Office 2013 Home Premium). I have copied the whole of 'My Documents' onto a flash drive, but cannot transfer data from there either. I have also installed Windows Live Mail. I can receive and send emails, but cannot access my old address book/contacts list. Any help/advice would be much appreciated! …

A couple of days ago I discovered in my Control Panel, on my Programs list, a program called "snap.do". I have never seen it there before, don't know how it got there. I tried to uninstall it, but it won't allow me to. When I researched snap.do it sent me to a site that said they (a live chat person) could help get rid of it. I was informed by that person that it must be removed from within my registry. I don't know anything about that site, and it scares me to **** mess with my registry. They were asking me questions that I felt uncomfortable answering (about myself and my computer). I ended my dealings with them before I gave up answers to the questions they were asking…

Has anyone had a page pop up after downloading Microsoft updates which purports to be "Product News". The statement attached advises that it is quite likely that all your personal information is being read by a virus previously planted in your system. There is nothing in the document that states it is from Microsoft and you are offered a "Download" to clear the problem. Is this another scam to gain access to your computer? Continue reading...

A while back there was some confusion over Samsung's "shipped" vs. "sold" numbers for their then-new Galaxy Tab tablet. Samsung, like most companies that aren't Apple, doesn't regularly report numbers. Some "analysts" and "outlets" are more concerned with pushing an agenda or grabbing sensational headlines than figuring out the actual numbers. So, Samsung was generally credited with selling 2 million Galaxy Tabs in 6 weeks and Apple, as a result, with losing 20% share of the tablet market. Now, thanks to the ongoing Apple vs. Samsung trial, we have some real data to reflect on. Philip Elmer-DeWitt writing for Fortune: When Strategy Analytics was telling the world th…

I was about the update my desktop computer running Windows XP SP3 and I let it close every program and it went black for a second or two and this error came up: STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The Windows SubSystem system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x c0000005 (0x7c910913 0x0053fa50). The system has shut down. I just simulated the screen I got so you get the point. It was an official update and I guess it was the final update for Windows XP. I rebooted it and it worked fine. Could it be something I don't know about yet? Continue reading...

I remember way back when...When Microsoft ended support for 98SE. I cried. I moaned. I posted on the NGs on how unfair it was for Microsoft to force me to purchase a new OS when I own my 98SE. Defiantly I continued to use 98SE. Using IE, more and more, sites would not function right using the old IE that was the last for 98. The Antivirus programs, no matter which one I tried to use would crash 98SE after some odd upgrade that made the program incompatible to 98. Replacing hardware became difficult because new hardware did not come with 98SE drivers. So now my Win98SE machine sets quietly on a back room desk...silent. It's big (state of the art) CRT monit…
