Adware infected my IE 11. I am not able to get rid of it. I need to just reinstall the IE. It seems as though it is impossible to do so with IE 11. I may turn it off, but I am not able to repair it via clean install. I may have the V9 malware. I am not sure. It seems kind strange that IE 11 is a permanent fixture. I searched the microsoft weebsite and the I am just told that IE 11 is onboard already and that there is no need to install it. Please help. Continue reading...

I ask this question, because the only drivers available through my searches for one are for Windows. However, it is a piece of hardware, and it reads four different types of memory cards, or I should say, it SHOULD read four different types of memory cards. It worked while I was using Windows XP Pro, but I didn't dare keep using that OS, so now all of my computers are Linux Mint Mate 16. It seems like there should be a way to get those card readers functioning on Linux Mint, but I haven't been able to figure it out. The strange thing is that the system can see the reader/s, but when I try to mount them, it just gives me an error message that the application necessary t…

The latest smartphone consumer satisfaction survey from J.D. Power still shows the iPhone coming out with the highest marks on all four major U.S. carriers. The survey, which asks thousands of customers on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon about their satisfaction with their current smartphone, was conducted between September 2013 and February 2014. Across all four carriers, Apple's devices came out on top with high scores — 850, 857, 853 and 849 on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon, respectively, on a 1000-point scale. Samsung devices came up close behind Apple on all four carriers, but still fell somewhere between 1 and 5 points behind the iPhone. Both Appl…

The settlement, first reported by Reuters, brings to an end a legal battle that could have cost Apple, Google, Intel, and Adobe billions of dollars and dragged them publicly into court. Once your Hulu Plus app is updated on your console of choice, you'll notice that it will show up under the "cast" button menu just like a Chromecast, giving you more choices to watch your Hulu Plus content on the big screen. What was it like moving Apple's Safari web browser from the Mac to the original iPhone? More interestingly, what was it like doing it under the attention of Steve Jobs? Former Apple engineer Francisco Tolmasky, one of the team members who helped do just that, spoke with Brian X. Chen about it as part of the publicity for his new iOS game, Bonsai Slice. There are lots of great anecdotes included, including how Ken Kocienda ended up creating the iPhone keyboard, insight into Don Melton's and Henri Lamiraux's teams, and, of course, Steve Jobs. The New York Times: Mr. Jobs was notorious for throwing his weight around however he could. One person on the iPhone design tea…

Advertising provider Appsfire has a new ad unit, but this one's not always going to be in your face: if only appears when you pull to refresh. Dubbed "Brichter-San", after the Loren Brichter, creator of the pull-to-refresh gesture, the ad unit is hidden until a user performs the gesture. The ads are native, and right now purely focused on apps, and pull their content all from Appsfire's servers. Continue reading...

After a disastrous experiment with linux ubuntu 12.04 lts on my dell laptop, windows 7 was wiped out on a faulty install. After trying a host of different ideas from the ubuntu forums which mostly led nowhere and added more confusion , I was finally able to boot back into windows using my windows xp sp3 installation cd to reformat the entire drive and do a clean install. When I lost win 7, I lost my internet and my wireless connection plus the dvd/cd burner which was restored with xp back but no internet and wireless remains a problem. To fix this(hopefully) I am going to use dban to scrub the drive and make a clean install with my windows 7 installation disk since the…

I have a 128 GB PNY flash drive, F, which I am using to store many programs and documents in view of my small hard drive and concerns about its durability. I am finding that on my initial bootup of the day that the system is not recognizing my PNY. I have to remove it and re-insert it. It's no use using safely Remove Hardware, because F doesn't show up there. When I reboot after doing this, then the system will recognize F. I ran a chkdsk on F, and it found no problems. I have a 4 GB Lexar flash drive which the system always recognizes. Operating System Windows XP Home Edition 32-bit SP3 CPU Intel Pentium 4 Northwood 0.13um Technology RAM 2.00GB DDR @ 166MHz (…

Hi, I'm having a problem with a computer that I'm trying to fix. It is running Windows XP. (I know it's out of support, but I can't really do anything about that right now...) What happens is this: Out of nowhere, (usually within 5-15 minutes), sometimes even before I log on, the computer will just hang. My only option is to force shutdown the computer. I've run chkdsk/r multiple times and all the times it said that there was nothing wrong with the hard drive. I've also run system restore multiple times, and sometimes the computer would hang during the restore operation. Please help me out, I'm looking to fix this computer as much as I can and as soon as…

Help please, I cannot do any Manual Windows updates - not sure if the automatic ones are working or not - above error code is stopping downloads. I did Google it and apparently it is a common register error but cannot find a straight answer or the error code on the Fix it Windows site ( I may not be searching correctly)? Could load the Windows software fix patches- but it did not work. You can pay for the software that says it will fix for about £20.00 or £30.00 pounds (free scan then you pay) from various sites, but if you pay and it doesn't work then it is wasted money. I would prefer not to re load the OS as it is too much hassle to get anything b…

I have a full back-up of my old XP computer on a Seagate external hard drive. When I plug it into my new Windows 8.1 computer I can see the various folders but can't open them. First I get a security message saying "You don't currently have permission to access this folder" followed by "You don't have permission to access this folder", and finally takes me to a screen that tells me I don't have permission to access it "even as an administrator". The is takes me to a set of "change" screens that make no sense. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Continue reading...
