this is kinda strange, I updated my mothers computer, it was completely out of commission, eventually i redid xp on her computer, then directly after that, i updated it to windows 7, everything is fine on her computer, but as soon as windows xp finished on her computer, my computer had me reenter my product key, which i thought was kinda weird cause i didn't do anything with my computer during the process, but i thought whatever, finished my mothers computer then went to update my computer to windows 7 but the disk drive wouldn't open, so i went to device manager and it wasn't there, so i tried everything online and nothing worked, I deleted upper and lower class filters,…

I'm not sure if my issue is similar to the other threads or not. Since patch Tuesday (what a beautiful day) I haven't been able to upgrade my Windows 8.1 with Media Center to Update 1. The weird thing is that Windows Update (which I thought was corrupt) was able to download and install ALL other updates just not the windows 8.1 update. The Issues Windows 8.1 Update gets stuck 3% download I use Windows Update Troubleshooter, performed sfc scan in an admin cmd prompt, I've stopped and restarted Windows Update services, rebooted etc. I go to Windows Update it tell me I have 1 update available (w00t!) and then it gets stuck at 18% downloaded and then I repeat …

My Envy laptop keep switching from start page to desktop after installing Win 8.1 update. Unable to do system restore (msg said drive was locked) Tried to do recovery from laptop and error msg registry database corrupt. Finally, inserted recovery disk and it took my computer back to factory install. Then had to download 108 Microsoft updates one at a time, before I could go to store and download Win 8.1. Isn't there an easier way to get the 108 downloads in one service patch?? Very time consuming. Finally have Comcast Norton installed and slowling getting updates installed. I never made a system image of the laptop BECAUSE I depended on the system …

Hy, I have problem with activation Windows 7. I installed Windows 7 (service pack 1) a week ago, and when i tried to activate it yesterday i got message " Error Code 0x8007007B"'. I saw on the Internet possible solution for this problem ( running cmd as administrator, and typing slmgr -rear "productkey") but it didn't workout. *** please see pictures ---> https://www.dropbox.com/sh/uzf156wh22nfd9x/DvBgipRPyR#lh:null-3.png My version is not pirate (i have option to use official microsoft products; i'm a student of electronics), so i'm really confused with this activation problem. Help! I have a Sony Vaio All-in-One. Periodically a radio wave -- like the waves made when throwing a rock in a lake -- pops up along with a bong sound on my screen. Usually in conjunction with a "next" pop up that includes an arrow. It only last a couple of seconds and then goes away but while it's up I can't type anything. If I'm fast enough I can click or touch the "next" arrow before it goes away but nothing happens when I touch it. Also, sometimes the screen zooms out to where I can't read it and sometimes it minimizes down to my task bar. I've also noticed if I press along the boarder of my screen the radio wave and the next sign appears. How to I stop this?…

I have installed Win7 on my computer using 'Custom Install', as I was advised to do. Data from my old hard drive has been stored on C drive under the folder name 'Windows-old'. I am having problems using Windows Transfer. It does not seem to give me the option of transferring files from a folder on C drive to places where I can use it eg. Word (I have installed Office 2013 Home Premium). I have copied the whole of 'My Documents' onto a flash drive, but cannot transfer data from there either. I have also installed Windows Live Mail. I can receive and send emails, but cannot access my old address book/contacts list. Any help/advice would be much appreciated! …

A couple of days ago I discovered in my Control Panel, on my Programs list, a program called "snap.do". I have never seen it there before, don't know how it got there. I tried to uninstall it, but it won't allow me to. When I researched snap.do it sent me to a site that said they (a live chat person) could help get rid of it. I was informed by that person that it must be removed from within my registry. I don't know anything about that site, and it scares me to **** mess with my registry. They were asking me questions that I felt uncomfortable answering (about myself and my computer). I ended my dealings with them before I gave up answers to the questions they were asking…

Has anyone had a page pop up after downloading Microsoft updates which purports to be "Product News". The statement attached advises that it is quite likely that all your personal information is being read by a virus previously planted in your system. There is nothing in the document that states it is from Microsoft and you are offered a "Download" to clear the problem. Is this another scam to gain access to your computer? Continue reading...

A while back there was some confusion over Samsung's "shipped" vs. "sold" numbers for their then-new Galaxy Tab tablet. Samsung, like most companies that aren't Apple, doesn't regularly report numbers. Some "analysts" and "outlets" are more concerned with pushing an agenda or grabbing sensational headlines than figuring out the actual numbers. So, Samsung was generally credited with selling 2 million Galaxy Tabs in 6 weeks and Apple, as a result, with losing 20% share of the tablet market. Now, thanks to the ongoing Apple vs. Samsung trial, we have some real data to reflect on. Philip Elmer-DeWitt writing for Fortune: When Strategy Analytics was telling the world th…
