My laptop has begun to refuse accepting the regular updates from Microsoft. When the computer closes down at the usual prompt, the updates are apparently "installed" but when it is rebooted it goes through repeated exercises trying to configure them and fails. Most recent failed updates are (all KB) 2800095, 2936068, 2908783, 2922229, 2928562, 947821 - and that's just a few. In case there were corrupted files, I went through the inbuilt validation process and apparently there are no corrupt files. So what do I do? While working ONLINE, files go OFFLINE once I make a change to them? Once they go OFFLINE they are no longer visible or referable to other users until I manually sync the file. It is quite a pain to have to go to the file in the explorer and tell it to sync after a change is saved. Is this by design? My brother accidentally downloaded gorilla price to my computer. Using Revo Uninstaller, I managed to forcefully uninstall the program, and it no longer shows up in the Control Panel in the Uninstall a Program area. However, I can't delete its program files because my computer says it's still in use. I tried to end the program in task manager (where it is showing up) but it either doesn't work or re-adds itself right after I end it. My computer was infected with virus that first messed with boot order of my pc once that was fixed. I ran a scan with Mircosoft Security Essentials and it came up with the Virus:DOS/Rovnix.GG. Listed under the details it said: Category: Virus Description: This program is dangers and replicates by infecting other files. Recommended Action: Remove this software immediately. Items: boot:\\PHYSICALDRIVE0\Partition 1 (NTFS) I ran the scan and removed the the virus and then prompted to download Mircosoft Defender Offline, I did and ran a full scan with Defender Offline. I'd love to find a basic Debian Testing Distro that only has a Desktop(MATE or xfce, maybe GNOME 3) and a Terminal installed "out of the box" leaving all the other little things like a Browser, Package Manager(I like Synaptic) ect. for me to install. Is there any kind of Core Debian Testing Distro like that out there or are we all pretty much stuck with having a lot of pre-installed stuff that never gets used in all the Distros to be had?? P.S. I have quite a few USB sticks from 8GB up to a 32GB Kingston that I picked up on sale at Office Depot. I have two that are 8GB Transcend sticks that just seem to not work with trying to make a Live USB stick out of them. I used the same .iso and UNetbootin to try to make a Live USB on one of the Transcend sticks and it gave a boot error, tried it on a Sansdisk and Bob's your Uncle, worked like a charm. The Transcend sticks seem to work ok for data like pics or text but for some reason they just don't work very well if at all when trying to make a Live USB. Has anyone else had trouble with Transcend brand USB sticks? Is there any way to reformat them to "fix" them so…

Hello, I have a managed VPS running CENTOS 6.5 x86_64 virtuozzo. After performing an update to deal with the Heartbleed vulnerability as advised here - cpanel.net/heartbleed-vulnerability-information/ - I attempted a graceful reboot. Unfortunately the server hanged during the reboot, causing WHM and hosted sites to go offline. My hosting support managed to get the server rebooted. A while ago, my mother's school exchanged their XP laptops for newer ones and teachers, such as her, could get one of the old ones if they wanted. She's been using one of these for some time now. Some days ago "some update or something" happened. It probably asked her if she's sure, but oh well... In any case, the result is that the system is "restored" to the state she originally got it in, possibly an even older state, and she doesn't remember what password it originally had (if indeed the currently active one isn't even older than the one it had when she got it). Hi all I loaded some software this week. Malwarebytes Anti malware and Spybot search and destroy. After running scans using each my copy of XP has suddenly asked for activation again. I managed to renew the licence by some frig but now it's saying I need to activate within 30 days.
