I'm trying to find Patrick Barker. I did a clean install using the original disc. Without adding anything the computer crashed so it must be the hardware as you suspected. I'm writing this from a phone so I couldn't find our original thread. I'll have to get a new one. Thanks to you and XP Rocks for your help; it was much appreciated. Continue reading...

Error: Windows Media Player is not installed properly. Reinstall the Media Player. I have tried this several times but always get the same result. None of the answers I have seen address this problem correctly. I have XP Professional 32bit SP3 and Office 2003. Is there a clash with any other Media programs that you have heard of. Any real help would be great. Continue reading...

Hi, A day ago, my Windows 8 Toshiba computer started making a really loud whirring sound, so I manually rebooted my computer pressing the button, and turned it on, but it still made the sound...after many tries, I finally got it to turn on without any sound, but a few hours later, it started making the whirring noise again, so I rebooted it...this continued for the whole day...overall, I probably manually rebooted the thing 20 times or so. Last night, however, I manually shut my computer down once again, but when I turned it back on, it was going to automatically repair my computer, but it started making a loud whirring sound again, so despite it being in the mid…

I've been having a problem and I don't know if its my computer or not, but it also does it with my xbox 360 too, but recently my internet would drop all connections to the internet. So i would be in the middle of my game on DayZ or on xbox live and all of sudden I disconnect and it only started happening 5 days ago, before that it was perfect. I would lose internet for 2 seconds and time out then reconnect and it does several times during the day. I have updated my drivers and done whatever I was told before. Nothing works, I have a brand new Modem/Router and it always has internet connection with 72.2 Mps downstream speed. I do not know what is wrong because my xbox is a…

Original Title : Hoverwolf1 How do I change the way my laptop charges the battery? It charges to full, then drops over a period of time until it has to be recharged, but, to recharge, it has to be shut down. During initial system set-up, there was an option to have continual charging or intermittent charging, but I can't find that to change it in the power settings. Anybody have any ideas? I have a tower computer with three SATA drives installed. The primary C: drive is a dual boot drive with XP and Win 7 installed. The other two drives are data drives. I want to minimise the potential for damage/loss of the drives during transit. Can I simply remove the 3 drives from the tower and re-install them without problems at a later date? I wonder, would the computer boot up ok after re-installing the drives? Would BIOS see the re-installed drives as NEW drives and therefore not go beyond POST or would BIOS recognise the drives as if they had never been removed? Would the Windows Operating System's boot up ok as if the drives had never been removed? …

I have uninstalled the software I was using for my internet wireless broadband connection (which shows up under the heading: Dial-up & VPN in the Network icon). I made sure all folders were removed from my PC, meaning I went into the Program Files folder and the Program Data folder. This internet connection was made via a USB modem. I had hoped that by clicking onto the big red cross to the right of the '3G connection' listing in the Network icon that it would be removed from the list, but it just gives me a message. It is not listed in the Network and Sharing Center. I have of course installed the new wireless broadband connection software from a different …

I was attempting to download a file off of an internet website. I had used the site previously and never had any issues. The download looked a little odd, and I should have listened to my instinct, but I had never had a problem before, so I okayed it. Bad idea. Suddenly, Microsoft Security Essentials pops up that I have a problem. I delete the file everywhere I can find it and start running Microsoft Security Essentials. I have Google Chrome and Internet Explorer browsers on my computer, though Google Chrome is the only one I typically use. I opened my task manager, and all of a sudden, my Chrome disappeared as if I hadn't just been using it. I attempted to reboot …

I know early on I had issues when I tried to do this for a laptop that I had but that's been over a year ago and I've learned a lot about Linux since then. Still, I want to get my ducks in a row for this install. Just like I figured my daughter's laptop with Windows 8 has been borked, told her now to get a Windows machine, told her to get an older laptop and I'd install Linux on it so she'd not have problems with viruses and malware, she didn't listen so now here we are, just like I said we'd be. So, I told her I can install Linux on her new laptop and get her back up and running and she'd not have to worry about stuff like this anymore. Figure that Ubuntu 14.04LTS may …

That's $80 more than is usually offered. There is one catch though — you have to ask for it. So what's the deal? Continue reading...

The Music app in iOS 7 didn't just come with an all new design, it came with an all new bug that's giving some of us trouble with deleting songs. What's supposed to happen is that you swipe a song, it brings up the delete button, and with a tap the song is gone. Unfortunately, for iTunes in the Cloud, that's sometimes not the case. The good news is all iTunes in the Cloud (and iTunes Match music) is safely backed up to Apple's servers. And that means you can fix the Music app bug with the nuclear option! Continue reading...
