Back at GDC 2014, we got some hands-on time with the first mobile game from Harmonix, called Record Run. (They wanted us to keep a lid on it until their big reveal at PAX East this last weekend.) These guys made the timeless Guitar Hero and Rock Band games, and as you might expect, their foray into iOS games also involves music. Continue reading...

Google Helpouts is a service that uses Hangouts to get users with questions in touch with experts. Categories include Computers & Electronics, Education & Careers, Fashion, Fitness and Music, among others. You use your Google account to sign in, and the interface is plain but intuitive. Most Helpouts are free, but the experts can set a fee for their services. Once finished, you're able to rate your experience so that others can get an idea of the service they should expect. It's an interesting concept, but so far has seen limited success. Maybe opening up the process to iOS users will make a difference here. Free - Download now Conti…

Just as they were late getting into the smartphone game, Apple has not rushed into the wrist race with iWatch. Check out Smartwatch Fans and you'll find no less than 14 smartwatches that are either available now or will be early this year. Some are from major companies like Samsung, Sony and Qualcomm. Others are from startups like Pebble and Neptune that are hoping to compete wrist to wrist with the big boys and win. So how could Apple capture not only the mind share, but make the market? From my observations, 2013’s most highly regarded smartwatch was the Pebble. The most marketed — and the one that has hit the most wrists to date — is the Samsung Galaxy Gear. The Gea…

Rogers has announced some new roaming add-ons for Canadian travelers. Not too long ago, Rogers unveiled a $7.99 daily roaming plan for the U.S. (which already faces stiff competition against WIND’s $15 unlimited plan), and this new one is built for roaming worldwide. But don’t get too excited; it’s $9.99 for a day for up to 20 MB (depending on where you're going), with no voice or text. Continue reading...

I hooked up another hard drive and enabled the error check in Tools to check it upon restart. That's when this started. When I remove the drive everything is fine. There are actually 2 drives and they both have the same problem though I only enabled that check on one of them. So obviously the problem is not the hardware. I was able to check it with various utilities and everything was fine. I can't imagine XP has a problem dealing with 2 TB drives. I should also mention they were previously used on Linux. Any ideas anyone? Anywhere to check to disable this check on restart thing? Continue reading...

I am planning on upgrading my 32 bit Windows XP to a 32 bit Windows 8. I have already purchased the product key online so Windows lead me to this site here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only However, when I try run the setup file, the first thing it says is that I do not have enough space on C Drive and need at least 20GB of free space. It's true that my C Drive does not have 20GB of free space, this is because my current Window's system is taking up all the space, and the website said not to format the drive. I don't mind wiping the system clean during the installation of Windows 8, but how do I start the download of Wi…

I've noticed a strange problem with the Surface RT. It ISN'T "always-on" even though that's why I purchased it. I noticed this while trying to receive notifications from Skype. After looking around I realized that the Surface was sleeping similar to a PC would. (This is the arm based original Surface) I managed to go into the desktop and disabled sleeping when the "lid" is closed and disabled sleep when the power button is pressed but that leaves me with an awkward problem... I can't lock it. Nor can I set the power button to simply turn the screen off. I'm not that hard up for battery life. If I lose an hour that's fine, but I'd sure love to figure out a sane …

Hey, I have an MSI GT60 with Windows 8, and currently I'm having two problems: 1. My computer has 4 USB Slots (3 on the left, 1 on the right) and only one of the USB slots works. (The one on the right) Basically, when I plug anything into the other slots, it acts as if I didn't plug anything in. 2. When I plug my mouse into the one USB slot that does work, my touch pad stops working. I've tried restarting my computer, and it didn't help. Any help appreciated! Thanks! Continue reading...

Original title: Windows 8 and HP Laserjet P1102w not working well I'm having difficulty using this printer with my Toshiba Satellite windows 8. If I download and install the printer driver, it will work either wirelessly or via USB for a day or two, then it just stops. I get a message that there is a printer error and the document can't be printed. No more information is given. If I remove the device and reinstall the driver, I can print, but after a day of so it stops and I get the same error message as above. I've lost count on the amount of times that I have reinstalled the drivers. Any idea if this is a driver issue or printer problem.... Conti…

Hello helpful people I too have the jumping cursor problem, since I had Windows 7 installed on my laptop. It's never happeneforeed b - there's a perfect example.... Whenever I type b or g followed by a vowel, the cursor jumps. Sometimes it highlights and deletes whole paragraphs but I haven't worked out the key combination for that one yet. I am convinced that it's nothing to do with the touchpad but must be a keystroke shortcut somewhere. I've had the laptop for about four years and never had this problem before. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks Continue reading...

I setup the login for the surface as my regular email account. The first time it happened was about 5 days ago. We changed the password on my aol so that the mail account on the surface can no longer sync with it, and ran an antivirus check on the RT using defender. No viruses were fount. The RT just sent out another batch of virus emails an hour ago. How can I kill this virus, or kill the mail program on the RT? Continue reading...

Hi all, I have seen earlier posts (2010!) that Opton PC Care has been operating for a long time. I just got a 'cold call' from them pretty much saying that they were calling on behalf of Microsoft and that my computer has been receiving 'harmful electronic files' and that they have jurisdiction to run a 'safety and security check'. If I don't do this, my computer will crash and so on. They also pointed out that Microsoft will not help me try to 'fix' this problem. This is the first time I have ever received this type of situation, it is a scam I believe. I just wanted to keep the issue alive so that people don't fall victim to their scamming. Info I got from them:- ca…
