I was having troubles with BSOD for a while. My system recoveries did not work or anything else I tried. I completely rebooted my PC a few days ago to fix the problem which worked until lat night. After the reboot it has happened once, which was last night. Previously (before the reboot) it was occurring most days. It seemed to be when I would not be using the PC. When I was first installing the MS updates, there were a few problems. When my PC was restarting, the configuration would stick at 15% for hours. This happened 2 or 3 times. I then installed them in smaller numbers and it worked perfectly. I would have thought the reboot would have fixed the problem. …

I did the scan and the report was there weren't any problems. The real problem is that although the updates are installed the system will not configure the updates. It reaches about 25% configuration and then tells me that it has failed and is "Reverting Changes". Every time I switch on it installs the updates but cannot configure windows. I have turned off Automatic Update installation for the time being. Any advice? Being as it's no longer of use, just giving me constant "this service has stopped" messages and slowing up the computer. I have replaced it with Avast! Antivirus just until we finally manage to get a new computer (hopefully soon) and we're running all our data on flash drive as much as possible so if something goes haywire we aren't losing much. I'm just getting tired of the constant red-marked messages interrupting things and slowing down the computer. Continue reading...

Good morning, I have problem with my friend's comp (Windows 7 64bit). He had some viruses/malware detected by avast antivir so he removed those viruses. After that he started to getting messages that rundll cannot load file/module. It was point when he called me to help him. I quickly resolved almost all problems deleting entries from autostart and from registry (by checking msconfig first). But there is one message left saying that rundll cannot load module nbius.cpp. Google/bing says nothing about nbius.cpp so i think it is random name. And this is why i am writing here. I tried almost everything to locate entry calling this library. Of course I searched msconfig, …

Hello to all its been a while since I checked in. I am a long time Ubuntu user but have been traveling in South America for the last 2 years with only a laptop- a Mac- so. Currently I am living in Quito Ecuador. A friend has a late 2008 IMac that I can probably pick up for $200. It runs the Intel 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, 6GB of RAM, the Radeon ATI 2400 HD graphics solution with 128 MB SDRAM. Was reading over at The Register today about 14.04, see the betas are available and have been itching to get off this laptop for quite some time. My question is- and I know this is going to be very subjective- how might 14.04 run on such old hardware. Everything here is 30-50% mo…

Just did a Manjaro install and I get this when i try doing a sudo pacman -Syu: error: failed to prepare transaction (could not find database) Also, it can't find my wifi either, I have to run with an RJ-45 connected to my router. Can someone please help me get this stuff sorted out. I'd love to learn Arch and Manjaro seems like Arch with Training Wheels but dang, they make it hard on a new user. Not had this problem with 90% of the Debian based installs that I've done, they always find my wifi and always find the sources.list to do updates and add software. Continue reading...

I want a Core Distro that gives me a MATE DE and a Terminal and NOTHING else so that I can install the music player, video player, office suite, ect. that I want to use and not have a bunch of extra junk pre-installed that I'll never even look at let alone use. Is there anything like that in the Linux World or are we all pretty much stuck with all the extra junk that Distros push off onto us? Arch scares the heck out of me, not sure why, guess it'd because I'm so use to "apt-get" and the thought of having to learn pacman seems daunting but I'm at the point in my Linux journey where I just want to "roll my own" so I can get what I want. Anyway, just needed to vent a …

Between packages that I want not being in Debian Stable and having to move to Debian Testing to get them and then Debian Testing not working with Gdebi and other little "issues" I'm just about ready to give Arch a try. I wonder if Antergos would be a good Distro to use to learn Arch and all the pacman stuff? That way I could get my feet wet but have a Distro with some "stuff" already installed then after I'm use to running it I can move to a "Real" Arch install and build up what I want. Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else started out with Arch that way. Thanks. P.S. Tried to boot to the Antergos CD, nothing, so I'm just going to download Arch and burn it to a CD…

I've installed Point LInux 3.0 beta1 which is based on Debian Testing and Gdebi doesn't work. When I click on a .deb package to install Gdebi will flash by then now open the package. I'd thought that maybe it was because the .deb packages were from Wheezy but I downloaded a package that I wanted to install from the Jessie pages at Debian and it didn't work either. Any idea why Gdebi wouldn't work under Testing but works like a charm under Stable? Thanks. Continue reading...

It looks like Apple's latest model in the iPhone 5c line, the 8GB version, is beginning to go on sale in some additional countries today. We've received a tip that it has just this morning gone on sale in the Czech Republic for the first time, while the folks at 9to5Mac have confirmed it has also gone on sale in The Netherlands, Sweden, Italy, Belgium and Poland. The initial launch of the iPhone 5c 8GB was limited to a very select number of locations, and as yet hasn't been seen in the U.S. Pricing varies from country to country, but the 8GB 5c offers a modest saving of around €50 on the 16GB version. Hands down, some of our favorite iPad and iPhone accessories are handcrafted with love by the Pad & Quill team. I am personally fascinated by the workmanship that is poured into these creations, and admire Brian and Kari (Mr and Mrs P&Q) for not only their products, but also for sticking to the highest standards possible. Crafted with the durability to become a family heirloom, the substantial full grain American cowhide leather, hefty twill woven waxed canvas, Baltic birch, and other fine materials in these products are each chosen specifically for their fine qualities. You would be hard pressed to find anything close to matching the attention to detail you'll…

It's been a long time coming, but the iMore show's video feed is finally back on both RSS and iTunes for your viewing pleasure. That it was missing in action for so long has been as irksome for us as it has been for all of you who emailed and tweeted us about it. But, long story short, now we're back! Long story slightly less short, nobody was happy with the performance of our previous video host, not us, not you, not them. We got nothing but complaints about how long it took to download shows and how often they'd get interrupted when streaming. It wasn't the host's fault, they just weren't optimized for large video files. Wrong tool for the job. After a ton of searchi…

Apple, Google, and Microsoft are but a few of the names that have announced a commitment to including features to deter smartphone theft in all future products. Even the carriers are on board, with the big four announcing support and commitment as well. What they're all committing to is the "Smartphone Anti-Theft Voluntary Commitment." All phones sold by the signees after July 2015 will offer, at no additional cost, the following tools and services: Remote wipe the authorized user’s data (i.e., erase personal info that is added after purchase such as contacts, photos, emails, etc.) that is on the smartphone in the event it is lost or stolen.
