Hello, I have a managed VPS running CENTOS 6.5 x86_64 virtuozzo with WHM 11.42.1 (build 5). I've tried to make sure my server is secured against the heartbleed bug, but I'm not sure if I'm completely there. This is what I've done so far - Performed a "yum update from command line to install the patched version of OpenSSL. That showed fix to CVE-2014-0160 In WHM, navigated to Home » Service Configuration » Manage Service SSL Certificates. Then clicked Reset Certificate for each service: FTP, Exim, cPanel/WHM/Webmail Service, and Dovecot. Changed root password. Rebooted server. I tested the server using filippo.io/Heartbleed/ but got back the followi…

I thought I knew how to do that; I have been using Java for programming for ages. I had Ubuntu 13.10 on an Acer Chromebook C720 until earlier this week, when I made the mistake of installing Ubuntu 14.04, Not only does it load more slowly, but also it gvies errors with Java. I can do this Quote: sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jdk java -version ...and get the appropriate response 1.7.0_51 IcedTea etc, but I want to use Java8, so I did what I have always done, something like this Quote: cd /usr sudo mkdir java sudo chown campbell java cd java tar -zxvf ~/Downloads/jdk-8-etc-linux-etc.tar.gz and got the usual output, a list of files being created. Now if I try to…

When you test as many cases as I do, you've got to expect a little collateral damage every once and a awhile. I've totally smashed my iPhone during drop tests, taken iPhones and iPads through the car wash and the dishwasher. I've tried to send them into orbit on model rockets and to the deep blue depths beneath toy race boats. I've sledded on them and wailed on them. I've even worn them in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fights and taken them on trips back to the future. This time... well, I just couldn't get the damn case off! And yes, misery for me, and hilarity for you, followed. Continue reading...

As administrator, I added a certain user as a member to a Local Group. I used my admin tools to see that he was in fact in the group. The user checked that he was in the group by the command "net user xxxxxx" which showed he was in the group. But the user did not have the privileges of the group. The user had to log out then log back in, then he had the new privileges. Is there a way to make the new privileges take effect without the user logging out and logging in? Am running Windows XP Pro. My computer restarted yesterday without me instructing it to do so. Beforehand a menu had appeared at the bottom of the screen with various options, but I didn't click on any of them. Some hours later and after another reboot the screen suddenly went blue and I was prompted to click on my username. ? Any ideas as to why this would happen and is there anything I can do to prevent it happening again? Continue reading...

Original title: Cannot remove USB disk because it is in use Hello. Unknown program is using USB disk when I try safely remove it. Windows 8 tells me the disk is in use and asks me to close the program but nobody tells me the name of the program/process. I did read discussions here about Windows Defender. There I have unchecked "check USB disks" and have black listed all drives from "E:\" to "N:\". No help. I don't want disable Defender. I want plug USB disks in and plug out as soon as I have copied files. But now I don't want plug in any USB disks because I know I cannot unplug them. Specially not when I'm hurry to go somewhere…

It's the power control in the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section of the Device Manager and it has stopped working? When I click the start button in Properties: It says that: The system encountered the following error while attempting to start the service. The system cannot find the path specified. Also in Properties in the General tab it says that: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24). I'm not even sure what it is that it does. I do know that I have been having trouble with connecting with my printer wirelessly and wired!! OK! I fixed the printer problem so now I'm not sure what this is??? Any help would…

i was trying to optimize my laptop using windows 7 manager. i tried the find duplicate files then after it found ALL duplicate files (i think also system files) i deleted it. i was half asleep when i did that then returned back to sleep. the next morning i tried to do my work using sketchup 8, i cant open it anymore. it says vray failed to load message. obviously that was because of my clumsy mistake and i still dont know how much damage i made so i tried to do a system recovery but it says it cannot create a system restore point. i cant risk reformatting my laptop. my work will be affected in terms of my schedules and files. so suggestions anyone? i badly needed to fix t…

The 1st reboot after Windows Update applied KB2929437 was VERY slow and problem continues today. I have not uninstalled that patch. WU applied ONLY that patch on 4/17/2014 as my PC was already current with all other WU patches. Running W7 Home Premium SP1 64bit on a fast HP desktop with 8GB ram and large harddrive. After boot (takes several minutes both before and again after entering my boot password) the PC seems to run OK. I run AVAST free anti-virus on this PC. Anyone have the fix for this problem? Thanks in advance. Continue reading...
