I have a K43SJ Asus Laptop and orginally, it has a Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed in it. I installed Windows 8 (Genuine)some time last year. My motherboard broke down three months ago and it had to be replaced by a legit ASUS repair center. Now, I have decided to go back to the original OS because I do not want Windows 8.1 anymore. So I reformat it with the OS inside the hidden partition of my laptop. Then after installation, it says that my OS is not genuine. How can I fix this? I'm pretty sure this is genuine. BTW, here's a copy of the MGAdiag.exe report Diagnostic Report (1.9.0027.0): ----------------------------------------- Windows Validation Data--> …

All of a sudden my bluetooth seems to have disappeared!! After 2 days trawling google for solutions and trying everything I am at a complete loss!! I have a Samsung NP300E5A-S01UK Notebook It definitely has built in bluetooth because I've been using it for ages! It has an Intel Centrino Wireless-N 130 network adapter, I've checked the physical connection on the bluetooth, everything seems fine. I've also downloaded and installed the latest driver direct from the Intel website. If I go to device manager and check the network adapter it says it is working correctly, also if I go to services there are 4 items related to bluetooth, they are all showing as start…

Do I need to uninstall all of the Norton programs for defender to work? What kind of security anti virus, male-ware can I can for free so I have some thing. I thought by purchasing a brand new laptop , you think Toshiba & Windows would offer protection of some sort. please help. I'm afraid to download or even check email without anything protecting me . thank …

Is there a way to query the system for the total number of resources scanned on a previous run of Defender (mpcmdrun.exe)? Per "GreginMich" back on 20130405, he didn't think that "the number of items scanned is retained anywhere." Is that true? I see some hex values in ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Support\MPRegistry.txt, but they don't appear to translate to the decimal "resources scanned" value I see upon completion of a GUI Defender execution. Thank you in advance. Continue reading...

Hi, Can Microsoft Rundle be a Malware Virus ? This has hijacked the screen on my laptop , freezing it unless I click "Yes" to install which I am reluctant to do under the circumstances. Clicking " No" does nothing. Surely Microsoft do not operate in this way. I read that Windows 7 does not run Rundle, but not sure. My AVG Anti Virus did not detect this. What can I do ? my laptop is now out of use. Bryan. Continue reading...

Hello there, I would like to know if there is a way to ask confirmations for any recursive commands on main folders such as /, /etc, /var etc... I was thinking of a script, that would be triggered each times when you execute a such command, but no idea how to do that. I also checked mans of these commands and found few things, but it require to add a long thing each time as argument wich would be pretty annying. Is there a way to do that ? It's because I am using root and I don't want to fail with folders since on the keyboard the ' . ' is nearby the ' / '. Thanks for your help. Continue reading...

I've spent some time looking for a solution to this issue but can't find anyone who's had the same problem. When trying to install Ubuntu 12.04 on my refurbished 64-bit Asus X401A I got all the way to the very end of the installation process and it failed saying there was some problem with the grub (sorry for not being more specific). I was booting off a USB stick using unetbootin in UEFI mode (I did this when I was trying out Mint 16 a few months ago on this same laptop and I had no issues whatsoever). The ISO file I'm trying to use is the same one I'm using to run Ubuntu on my Mac's virutalbox. It works there without issue so I don't think it's a corrupt file. Af…

Following the publication of Apple's absolutely stellar iOS Security white paper in February, Steve Gibson of the TWiT network's Security Now! show spent three episodes going through it, providing extra explanation and context. Gibson was incredibly impressed by the iOS Security white paper, and by Apple's security implementation in general, calling it "amazing" many times over, especially the Apple A7 and its secure enclave. he also widely praised Apple's choices for the crypto they implemented, and especially how user- and privacy-focused their choices were. Gibson did point out the iCloud Keychain cryptography wasn't as good as the rest of the system, and that thing…

Game of Phones is a great-looking card game in the home stretch of its Kickstarter campaign. It resembles Cards Against Humanity or Apples to Apples in that a judge plays a single challenge card, and decides which response from the other players he or she likes best. The difference here is that instead of playing cards as a response, players meet challenges with their phones. This means doing stuff like showing the last picture they took, the most yuppie app they have installed, or be the first to get a Like on an Instagram picture. The winner gets the card, and the first to gather ten cards wins. I really like this idea because it highlights phones as the fun, conne…

After Microsoft discontinued XP I am starting to wonder what about the people who have Windows 7 with XP Mode? If Microsoft was going to discontinue XP in 2014 they should have known better to not release an XP Mode for Windows 7. They should have planned ahead if they were going to discontinue five years later as the OS is Windows XP Professional SP 3 (Which business editions are supposed to last for 10 years) and even though the original XP Pro got it's length of time it is unfair to the people for Windows XP Mode on Windows 7. If Microsoft Wants to be like WIndows NT 4.0 (Which only got 6 years of support) it scares me what they are going to do to the next Windows when…
