Is there a way to query the system for the total number of resources scanned on a previous run of Defender (mpcmdrun.exe)? Per "GreginMich" back on 20130405, he didn't think that "the number of items scanned is retained anywhere." Is that true? I see some hex values in ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender\Support\MPRegistry.txt, but they don't appear to translate to the decimal "resources scanned" value I see upon completion of a GUI Defender execution. Thank you in advance. Continue reading...

Just had to tell everyone that I'm really lovin' my Manjaro/Xfce install. Way easier then I thought it be to run something "Arch" and the AUR has just about anything and everything you'd ever want to run on your computer. I'm finding all the software that was wanted and it doesn't matter that I'm running an Arch Stable platform, it's still all there for the taking. With Debian to get what I needed I had to run Testing and then things like Gdebi wouldn't work, oh well, you've seen my threads but with Manjaro it's just working. Also, I've got Xfce set up and tweaked to look and work for all the world like MATE, which is what I was use to using. I think until I get to the …

Several of my CentOS 5.10 servers are causing a lot of 531 log on failures on all of my windows servers (all versions). Iv WireSharked this and can see the attempt to connect attempt to \\SERVERNAME\IPC$ as Guest however I am still unable to figure out exactly how to stop it from happening. Are the best games on Android or are the best games on iPhone? That's a question that's becoming increasingly important to both Apple and Google, and they're reportedly willing to help developers get massive marketing pushes in exchange for periods of exclusivity for hot new games. This will come as a surprise to precisely no one familiar with the console market, or the basics of running any store, real-world or virtual. Mario, Sonic, Halo, and other exclusive franchises made the console wars of the past, and on mobile, and for iOS and Android, that's now translating into Plants vs. Zombies 2, Cut the Rope 2, and many others. Ian Sherr and Daisuke Wakabayashi, writing for…

Facebook, the world's most popular social network, is reportedly looking to get into the lucrative mobile ad game, perhaps as early as their F8 developers conference set to kick off in San Francisco on April 30, 2014. Facebook has been serving their own ads for a long time now, but this would be a way for developers to integrate Facebook ads into their own apps and services, and it would bring Facebook into direct competition with Google's AdMob, Apple's iAd, among others. Mike Isaac, writing for Re/code: Facebook will pitch the ads to publishers and developers as a way to leverage the social network’s vast database of user information for better ad targeting. And F…

In Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff, you're tasked with rebuilding Quahog after Peter and his chicken nemesis, Ernie, have destroyed it. In order to do so you'll have to help Peter clear the town of debris and find all the other characters. Have an original Apple TV that's suddenly unable to connect to the iTunes Store? You're not alone. It looks like many, many people in many, many parts of the world are suffering from exactly the same outage. There's no word yet on what caused it, though there is speculation that it might be related to a recent security update on Apple's servers, perhaps to deal with the Heartbleed OpenSSL vulnerability. There also doesn't seem to be anything that fixes it at the moment either, which is especially frustrating for people. Apple stopped selling the original, OS X-tiger based Apple TV in 2010 following a switch to the iOS-based Apple TV 2 and later, the 1080p Apple TV 3…

Don't companies realize that when you tell someone something 10 times its kind of demeaning and insulting? How can they possibly be so dense? Its like a phone system that tells you every 30 seconds to not hang up for fastest service. Is there anyone on the planet that thinks they'll get helped faster by hanging up? Its like a lot of software designers just don't think like 99% of the population. They may be brilliant in their own area but when they interface to the public at large they're just a total failure. The answer is to partner them with average thinking people. THEN you'll have a product that works. The biggest companies in the world are completely in the …

Recently I noticed that Power Options in Control Panel is blank. I can't create anything or do anything there. Could something in Services.msc have disabled this? Anywhere else I should look? I can't Shut Down, Restart or put it in Standby. Also when I start the computer (after using the hardware Reset button on the computer case) it doesn't remember my User Name. It asks me every time. There is no password. I just hit Enter after entering my User Name. Continue reading...

I built a computer for my wife and it has performed wonderfully until a month ago when she told me she thought she had a virus because her PC was really slow. She was correct and I found and cleaned several threats from her machine. Even created a Kaspersky boot cd and did a cleaning from that. I have gotten rid of all detected viruses at this point. I have run full scans with Kaspersky, AVG, Norton 360, Spybot, Adaware, Webroot and Hitman Pro. All of these have reported no threats. Machine was still painfully slow so I started following threads on here. I have used msconfig to take everything out of the startup. I have optimized, defragged and gotten rid of unused progra…

Friends, I have a Dell netbook that used to run WinXP. Wireless networking used to work fine. I have upgraded its memory and hard disk to ensure that Win8 requirements are met and I installed Win8. Everything else (display, wired networking, audio & sdcard reader) works fine, except wireless. The driver seems to have installed without any errors, but I can seem to access the wireless device. My device is: Broadcom BCM431X 802.11 Hybrid Wireless Controller To ensure that there is nothing wrong with the hardware, I ran a Ubuntu liveusb and things just work fine. For some reason, I am unable to get wireless working in Win8 (like I said, wireless worked just fin…

A few weeks ago, my laptop (Sony VAIO Pro 13 with Windows 8) started crashing occasionally, always when I wake it from hibernation. I set my laptop to do nothing when I close the lid and to hibernate when I press the power button, and I rarely shut it down. When the crash happens, the screen freezes for a moment and then I get a BSOD with the description "DPC WATCHDOG VIOLATION". This doesn't always happen, and I don't know why sometimes it crashes and other times it wakes from hibernation just fine. Here are the dump files: http://www.mediafire.com/download/teg4qu7k8md32dd/Enkoa_Minidumps.rar Continue reading...
