I was just thinking about this and I think one reason that Linux gets so little Respect form Windows and Mac users is because it's Free. I think over the years they've been brainwashed into thinking that a "Real" Op System is one that you have to pay for like Windows and that if it's Free, like 99% of Linux Distros are then it must not be any good. They think that if it was good they'd surely not give it away without charging a fee like MicorSoft does for their Op System. I know that this idea on their part is totally wrong headed and that they have no real understanding of that Linux or the Linux Community is really all about but still, think about other things that y…

Hello, I've been trying for three days now to install java on a machine that supposedly didn't have any version. Since I've been playing with Manjaro I've been getting into the habit of going into my partitions via Live USB to re-size them so I get things the way I want them to be. Today I did a Point LInux 2.3 install(Debian Stable, MATE DE) and when I checked the partitions to see about re sizing Swap to 2.0GB(the amount of RAM I have installed) there wasn't any Swap partition. Only one ext4 partition that root, home and grub are on. So, I wonder if I need to go in and cut off a chunk of 2.0GB and create a Swap partition or does Point Linux handle RAM and memory in such a way that they don't feel it's needed or what? I'm somewhat confused by the way they've set up the partitio…

This post was authored by Eric Schmidt, Content Developer 2, Xbox Developer Content Microsoft recently sponsored a team to complete in the “Build for Good” LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Robo Competition, a team that represented the Xboxbrand. I had the distinct honor of working on this team of developers, testers, and one business manager to create a pretty awesome exhibit. Team Xbox, wearing distinctive Zoo Tycoon themed hats. The Team Xbox exhibit ambitiously connected three LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 robots, five Windows Phones, and a Surface Pro tablet into an integrated system. The exhibit created a real-life version of the Zoo Tycoonvideo game from Microsoft Studios that…

Imagine if, in iOS 8 or some future version of Apple's mobile operating system, Spotlight became a secondary, text-based point of access to Siri, able to parse the same type of natural language queries and commands, and retrieve the same kinds of responses, and perform the same kinds of actions? Back in June of 2012 I hoped for a Spotlight that could access Siri, and I'm still hoping for it today. Why? Siri voice free While Apple has made great progress expanding Siri since its debut in iOS 5, including adding new data sources for movies, sports, and more, they've also expanded Siri's accessibility. Siri gained Eyes Free in iOS 6 and CarPlay in iOS 7. However, the…

It must be that internet access is slow, because Iran just got around to banning WhatsApp because parent company co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is Jewish. Kind of. After, you know, Facebook bought WhatsApp over two months ago. The ban comes courtesy of Abdolsamad Khorramabadi, Secretary of the Iranian Committee for Determining Criminal Web Content, which has the power to block access to sites and services deemed offensive in content, ownership, or… well, whatever, really. Khorramabadi described Zuckerberg as "an American Zionist", which is apparently reason enough to extend Iran's blocking of Facebook to WhatsApp as well. Strangely, the committee has not yet got …

Apple could be preparing for a major iPhone upgrade promotion event at Apple Stores starting as soon as May 8. Mark Gurman, reporting for 9to5Mac: Apple will be contacting upgrade-elgible iPhone users with older iPhone models via email to come into their local Apple Store to update to a new iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c. This new upgrade initiative is said to fall in line with Tim Cook's ongoing plans to boost iPhone sales at Apple Retail Stores, something already underway through trade-in programs, App Store app updates, iBeacon integration, and more. The iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c are both top-notch products. It'll be interesting to see, however, what Apple offers t…

An unnamed mobile health executive is saying he sat down with Apple's iWatch team to talk about something that sounds a lot like the Healthbook platform rumored for iOS 8. The iWatch, Healthbook, and iOS 8 haven't been announced yet, and Apple's typically incredibly secretive about unannounced projects, but Reuters did get a second executive to go on record: "Some of the talent (Apple recruited) has access to deep wells of trade secrets and information," said Joe Kiani, chief executive officer of medical device firm Masimo Corp, who lost his chief medical officer to Apple in mid-2013. Kiani said that Apple was offering sizeable salaries with little indication of …

My HP laptop running windows 8.1 on start-up gets 5 bars of wifi. Over about half an hour to an hour it slowly goes down to only getting 1-2 bars of wifi signal. If I disable the wifi adapter, then enable it and restart I get 5 bars back, however the problem of slowly losing wifi signal continues. I know that it is not our modem/router as my housemate sitting right next to me always gets 5 bars wifi signal. I just don't know what else to do...someone help? Thanks! Continue reading...

Hi, I left my computer on overnight, and the next morning I saw my Windows 8 welcome screen, but when I tried to put in my password to get to the desktop screen the computer went black. I then turned the computer off and back on again and logged on, but at the welcome screen a message popped up saying my Onedrive had disappeared, that it had been either deleted or damaged -- at least I think that's what it said -- and then it asked me to set up OneDrive again, which I did, and it seems everything is back to normal; however, I'm now wondering why OneDrive disappeared, if it was due to a virus, if someone just managed to "take it," and why only OneDrive and not any of my…
