Has anyone noticed that certain email messages don't get propagated to the Mail app? It's not just the Mail app on Windows 8 though. I also see the same thing on the Mail app on Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 8.1. It occurs on multiple Windows 8.1 computers. All of the emails show up if you logon through the website (i.e. hotmail.com which gets redirected to the outlook.com site which is really on mail.live.com, yeah confusing). It seems to be certain senders that are the problem, but sometimes their messages come through. There doesn't appear to be anything out of the ordinary about these messages. (And they're not from some weird company, or otherwise sketchy so…

The camera doesn't need a specific driver, it's supported by w7 MTP. It worked ok, then one day stopped. The Device Manager says: it's Portable Device, and the EOS icon has yellow error mark - Can't load the appropriate driver - Error code 31. Windows Driver Foundation service is active. Tried to reset USB port, but vainly. Any Canon software update (uninstall and reinstall) - result = NULL. Any idea guys? Spent 2 days figuring out what's wrong. Continue reading...

Hello all. I hope you can help me. I'm trying to use the Windows Search but my code throws an exception whether I use wilcards ( &, *, _, ...) or empty text. My code is: string sentence = "Select System.ItemName, System.ItemPathDisplay, System.ItemUrl from SystemIndex where " + "CONTAINS('" + this.SearchString.Text + "') AND SCOPE = 'file:myscope'"; Then I execute the code but I get the next exception if SearchString.Text is empty or a wilcard. IErrorInfo.GetDescription failed with E_FAIL(0x80004005). The directory where I am searching is indexed and I select 'files and content'. If SearchString.Text c…

My computer has been on setting "Never check for updates" for sometime. Now I have put it on "Install updates automatically". When I try to update now, each time it downloads about 130 updates, and when the computer is restarted to take effect of update, it shows Configuring updates till about 30%, then shows that it had failed configuring Windows and reverting changes. I have tried many times with same above result. Please tell me how I can bring the computer to fully updated state. Thanks.. Continue reading...

My MSE definitions are up to date, and my Windows Update service is working fine. I ran the FixIt program (as suggested by others in response to John Lunenburg's question asked on 1 March 2012), but all things were fine. I just can't turn on the real-time protection of MSE. It times out when I try to turn it on. I had Norton Antivirus installed, but I unistalled that thinking that it was messing with MSE (as suggested on the MSE forum pages). That didn't work either. I submitted an email question to MSE, but I got a response saying that Microsoft no longer provides email support for MSE. Can anyone help!?! I feel exposed and vulnerable. Continue reading...

There is a process I found in my Task Manager named CTF Loader (32 bit) (ctfmon.exe) and I have just noticed it now, although in the properties of the file it says it was created last year. It's size is 10.5kb and size on disc is 12.0kb. The file is located in C:\Windows\SysWOW64. Is this supposed to be on my computer or is it a virus or some sort of malware? It says in properties that it was created on the same date and around the same time as a lot of other files in C:\Windows\SysWOW64. It's product name is Microsoft Windows Operating System. File Version: 6.3.9600.16384. Original finename: CTFMON.EXE. I have run scans with both Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and AVG AntiVir…

Hello MS Community: Last night, 04-21-2014, I "almost" became infected by the so-called FBI MoneyPack Virus/Ransomware/Scam. I had just logged-onto www.detroittigers.com to see how the Tigers lost again. I noticed a little pop-up window on the bottom of the screen asking me for an answer to some question, either "yes" or "no". I guess that no matter what answer I was to have chose (yes or no), the FBI Ransomware would have installed! I immediately turned on the Windows Task Manager and quickly turned-off all the tasks that were running, via hitting End Task. Whether that was the correct movement, I can't say for sure, but I did see that all-…

I got this procedure of some computer expert, but I am not sure about what will happen if I try to follow these procedures to track and remove files created by Start.qone8.com. The iPhone and iPad app now has a whole new design for iOS 7 along with some awesome new features including multiple vault support, unified autofill, AirDrop support, sharing, and more. A lot of the new features are available in the Mac app as well. Better yet, AgileBits is still offering 50% off both versions for a limited time! Aside from a design overhaul, the iOS version of 1Password also brings with it a lot of significant updates including an overhaul of 1Browser, the native browser inside of 1Password. Imagine a boss at a company with a really great salesperson who lands all the best, highest valued customers for the company. Now imagine that boss hates having to pay that salesperson their really high commission, even though it's the salesperson who's closing all those deals and ensuring all that money comes to the company. The boss can't afford to lose that salesperson but they're desperate to find anyway they can to cut that salesperson's commissions. Likewise, the salesperson knows their value and insists on being richly compensated for the deals they close. That's the relationship between the carriers and the iPhone, and between the price carriers pay Apple for the …

As part of Apple's renewed push on its environmental strategy it has taken out a full page ad in the British newspapers today that has a not so subtle dig at Samsung in the process. It was first noticed by David McClelland in the Metro and reported via Twitter: Apple ad on back cover of this morning's Metro: 'There are some ideas we want every company to copy'. pic.twitter.com/RNbgBNtjHZ — David McClelland (@DavidMcClelland) April 22, 2014 The reference to Apple's seemingly never ending lawsuits with Samsung is obvious, but the more important message is the environmental responsibility push. Apple is making a big deal of it. Maybe others will follow. Source…

I'm trying to migrate settings from my old XP to a new Win 7 machine. I want to use the Network method. I'm at the step where I've taken a USB drive that I installed Win Easy Transfer on and put it in my XP machine to get the network password/key to use on the new machine. After getting the network key/password from the old machine, I'm trying to remove the USB drive from the old machine and it seems as though migwiz.exe keeps running and won't let me remove the USB drive from the machine until I force migwiz.exe to stop running. This seems to stop the entire process of getting both machines on the network. Anyone know what is going on here. A further qualifier...I w…
