Filters are not only fun to use, they add something unique that distinguishes your photo of something from everyone else's. They also make it easier to be creative and really think outside the box when editing a photo. Sometimes applying filters on top of filters can turn something dull into something amazing. While filters aren't appropriate for every photo we take, they have their place. That's your task this week. Snap a photo and experiment with filters. Be sure to submit the ones you just don't think would be the same without filter effects! The contest begins today and ends Tuesday, May 13th at 6 p.m. Eastern time. Good luck! It's also time to announce the win…

After a bit of teasing earlier this year, United Airlines has gone live with their iOS app update which enables in-flight movie and TV watching on your iPhone or iPad. The service is only available on certain flights, so be sure to check yours a day before you head out before counting on being able to enjoy it. This is great. Generally the displays in just about every plane are fuzzy and ancient in comparison to what you can get on an iPhone or iPad. It's great to see new mobile-friendly services beyond in-flight Wi-Fi and QR ticketing, too. Recently we've seen some movement on airport use of iBeacons, but what else would you like to see airlines taking advantage of …

Ever since J.D. Power started measuring consumer satisfaction with their tablets, the Apple iPad has ruled the rankings, and this year is no different. The latest satisfaction poll from J.D. Power shows Apple leading the pack, though trailed closely by Samsung, Asus, and Amazon. Said Kirk Parsons, senior director of telecommunications services at J.D. Power: "Price has significantly impacted the marketplace. The average purchase price continues to drop and consumer expectations of tablet performance and features are different than they were for past products. Subsequently, overall satisfaction has declined, especially with ease of operation, as navigation features a…

Apple's success in online retail is climbing steadily according to the latest numbers. Of course Amazon still has a massive lead, but online only constitutes about 10% of Apple's business. Overall, Apple's e-commerce revenue was bumped up to $18.3 billion in the last year, which is up 24% from the year prior. This was enough to overtake Staples and Walmart, who earned $10.3 and $10.04 billion respectively within the same period. It's also interesting to note that Costco climbed over Best Buy in online sales too. The bump comes courtesy of an accounting change on the part of Apple, who for the first time broke out online hardware sales from their total retail sales. C…

Apple could be getting ready to open two additional retail stores in NYC, home to the already iconic locations at 5th Avenue, Grand Central Station, SoHo, the Upper West Side, and West 14th Street. The new Apple Retail Stores would in Manhattan's Upper East Side and at below the new World Trade Center's Transportation Hub. The Upper East Side location will be at 940 Madison Avenue, according to InfoAppleStore: Various sources confirm that construction planning is underway for 940 Madison Avenue, a limestone and marble building now occupied by luxury retailer VBH. I noticed a new option for "administrator" when logging in under safe mode. I don't have that option when I login normally (this is my first experience using safe mode) Is this normal? My usual login has administrator privileges. There was a weird thumbnail pic of a kid doing karate next to it that I've never seen before. Is this normal? I am on 32-bit XP (yes, I know it's not supported any more) Continue reading...

I am unable to access any content linked to at http://www.fws.gov/endangered/. I can access this page, but none of the links on this page work. This problem appears to be specific to this one Web site, and is specific to my home computer (the computer I'm posting this from), because I do not have this problem on any other computer. However, the problem does not appear to be specific to any particular browser. I am using Internet Explorer 11 and Google Chrome Version 34.0.1847.131 m, and the problem occurs with both browsers. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me to resolve this. Continue reading...

Here's the problem i have, and what i know so far. NT Kernel and system is taking up no less than 25% of the cpu, and making everything lag. Using process explorer i discovered the thread responsible: ntoskrnl.exe"!KeAcquireInStackQueuedSpinLockAtDcpLevel+0x1e0 I've tried suspending, killing, and looking at the permission and it always says the same thing: Unable to access thread. so far i've tracked to be a driver for new software's "folder lock". I've never installed this program though and have no way of finding it. So i downloaded the windows driver kit, because that way i can examine the data and hopefully at least narrow it down, then google the drive…

While going through my StartUp Manager, I noticed a file called "newnext helper engine." After a bit of digging, I found it was connected to "Mobogenie" folder. After some quick Googling, I realized that this could be a potentially harmful file. As I don't know what it is, nor do I remember downloading it, I would like to uninstall this program/file.
