Hi, further to my recent question about not being able to uninstall a programme called Gameo, I just found the answer. Starting up the computer in "safe mode", I then went to uninstall and tried again and hey presto it worked, so whether it was dodgy or not I no longer have it. It might of been a trojan horse, but at least it's gone. regards, Malc Continue reading...

When I put disc to drive again, sometimes OK, sometimes some files missing, sometimes I see only empty folder. When I try to read blu ray under Windows, everything is OK - everytime. 2) After I changed to cdrecord, Debian+KDE is not able to load disc or eject tray untill I run k3b or some other CD/DVD/BR SW. I have a pure linux desktop with 4 OSes on it, it is booted through grub, and this direct boots the other 3 grub2 OSes one of which is Kali. Because of my grub setup I do not have recovery options available for the grub2 OSes and Kali for some reason did not give me a root password option on install and a blank and toor do not work. I thought I might try opening mepis logging into a shell as # and running mount -o remount,rw /dev/sda6 and the doing a password set, however it appears there are no dynamic entries in fstab so that path is not open. Is it possible to do it with mount -t ext4 and follow through with a mount -o somehow I have tried a few things with no joy ? …

Apple has made some updates to iTunes Connect, the backend that lets developers manage their apps, that seem to address several long standing pain points. Among them, there's a new "unrestricted web access" description that might help apps with built-in browsers from presenting as adult/porn apps to the unfamiliar, and compliance with Brazil's games rating system, which has caused a lot of frustration for everyone over the years. Here's the full list of updates: New App Content Descriptions You can now use the following descriptions: Medical/Treatment Information, Gambling and Contests, and Unrestricted Web Access (for apps that permit navigating and viewing web …

AT&T reported its first quarter 2014 results, showing impressive growth in revenues, handset sales and customer acquisition for the quarter. While AT&T operates businesses outside of its wireless division, we're going to focus on this portion. For the quarter, AT&T posted $17.9 billion in revenue including handset sales, up 7 percent year-over-year, leading to $5.1 billion in operating income, up 8.1 percent. On the customer side, AT&T added 625,000 postpaid customers, its largest first quarter gain in five years. It also added 693,000 "connected devices," but saw prepaid customers dip overall in the quarter mostly due to the loss of over 200,000 resell…

There's a rumor going around that Nike is axing their Nike Fuelband hardware division. Whether it ultimately proves to be true or false, given where Apple is and where they may be going with iOS 8, iPhone 6, and perhaps even an iWatch, it makes a ton of sense. A few years ago Sonos, the Wi-Fi connected speaker maker, switched from making their own hardware controller to making an app for the iPhone and later, the iPad. When I spoke to them about it they said the iPhone was simply a better solution. It was great hardware, capable of presenting great interface, and it was something a huge amount of people already knew how to do. By shifting their efforts from making h…

Apple has updated Pages, Numbers and Keynote for iOS right on the heels of the iOS 7.1.1 update. The changelogs aren't very telling when it comes to what's new or different, only stating "stability improvements and bug fixes." Many folks feel this may have something to do with the Heartbleed issue, but the people who know aren't saying. You'll find your updates ready and waiting in the App Store. Continue reading...

Boot Camp provides the best performance for Windows on your Mac. It takes a little work to install, so here's some help. If you need to install Windows on your Mac, you have a few options: software like VMware Fusion and Parallels Desktop can help you get the job done so you don't have to reboot each time you want to use it, but if you want truly native performance — important for gamers and others looking to eke every last drop out of their Mac — Boot Camp is the way to go. Here's a step by step guide to make it happen. What you'll need to install Windows on your Mac To install Windows on your Mac via Boot Camp, you'll need: A copy of Windows either on CD/…

This blog was authored by Microsoft MVP, Joost van Schaik Windows Phone has been a passion for me since even before it was released, and I have been developing for it ever since. Passion can take you very far - in my case, I even became a Windows Phone Development MVP in October 2011. In that capacity, but also just as a developer loving his platform, I would like to point you to //publish/, an event that will run on May 16-17, 2014. Unlike //build/, you don’t have to go all the way San Francisco to meet the industry experts – we will be right there for you, at (present count) 66 places all over the world, in all countries, time zones and languages.
