    All files/programs I attempt to download contain the same message "contained a virus and was deleted" Does this mean I have a virus? I haven't used this computer in a long time and don't know much about computers in general. Should I take it in to a tech or is there something I could do myself? Continue reading...

I also naeed to send this data to my linux server ( /var/www/html/dsd/ ) where it is processed and generates a results.txt file. I need to pick this file and display in other html table. How can i achieve this upload and picking file from server using ajax and html or php. currently i am downloading the csv file to my desktop without any problems. But my aim is to send this csv file to server and pick the result file. csvData = 'data:application/csv;charset=utf-8,' + encodeURIComponent(csv2); $(this) .attr({ 'download': filename, 'href': csvData,…

    Hello all, I've been using Kubuntu on my machines for a while (14.04 now), and this is the one thing I've still been falling back onto Windows to let me do. I like to keep a webcam running on my home desktop for my fiance and I to check in on our pets during the day. Yawcam is awesome for this, and does exactly what I'd like it to. Since I have now removed Windows from the last box in the home (yay!) I need to find a Linux solution. I've tried VLC, but I must be getting something wrong or not understanding some part of the instructions, because it never seems to work. I can view the cam locally, but I must be missing some step to make the "stream- http" option work…

    Anyone here set up pywebsocket? I'm running Debian Stable, and apache always disconnects in 10 seconds (regardless of activity). This is frustrating! When I run the echo_wsh.py example in standalone mode (on a different port), then the connection stays open as long as I want (until the client sends "Goodbye" or I kill the standalone python process). Therefore, it's not a bug in the echo_wsh.py code. I think it must be something in apache2 configuration I don't know about. I'm running Debian Wheezy, and I'm using apache2 along with the python-mod-pywebsocket package. Continue reading...

    I ask this question, because the only drivers available through my searches for one are for Windows. However, it is a piece of hardware, and it reads four different types of memory cards, or I should say, it SHOULD read four different types of memory cards. It worked while I was using Windows XP Pro, but I didn't dare keep using that OS, so now all of my computers are Linux Mint Mate 16. It seems like there should be a way to get those card readers functioning on Linux Mint, but I haven't been able to figure it out. The strange thing is that the system can see the reader/s, but when I try to mount them, it just gives me an error message that the application necessary t…

  11. Today we released Security Advisory 2963983 regarding a potential vulnerability in Internet Explorer reported by FireEye and currently under investigation. We are working closely with FireEye to investigate this report of a vulnerability which was found used in very limited targeted attack: - the vulnerability is a “use-after-free” memory corruption and the exploit observed seems to target IE9, IE10 and IE11;

  12. Today, we released Security Advisory 2963983 regarding an issue that impacts Internet Explorer. At this time, we are only aware of limited, targeted attacks. This issue allows remote code execution if users visit a malicious website with an affected browser. This would typically occur by an attacker convincing someone to click a link in an email or instant message.

    Apple CEO Tim Cook is offering a lunch date on charity auction site CharityBuzz. The current winning bid sits at $48,000, though the auction still has another 19 days to go. The winner and a guest will be able to snag an hour with Cook for lunch. They'll also have to get through security screening, and it may take up to a year to find a hole in Cook's schedule, according to the fine print. Continue reading...

    Alongside their Q2 2014 results, Apple announced a 7 for 1 stock split. In other words every share of AAPL will soon become 7 shares of AAPL. Whenever a big company announces a stock split lots of people talk about it as if it's some kind of big deal. It isn't really a big deal at all. Public companies like Apple have their shares traded on a stock exchange where average Joe buyers like you and me can buy and sell. Big money managers can do the same. The total number of shares in existence makes up the entire company. I often explain that it's like cutting a pizza. If you cut a pizza in to a bunch of pieces. If you have all the pieces, then you have the whole pizza. Bu…

    Tim Cook runs the risk of burning us out with constant promises of new products. Ultimately, he has to underpromise and overdeliver Tim Cook is playing a dangerous game with investors, analysts and tech journalists. We've been hearing for months about how Apple will launch products in new categories, but there's still no sign of these new products. Time will tell if Cook's gamble to tease us will pay off. That was reiterated during Apple's Q2 2014 financial results call with analysts on Wednesday, when Cook doubled down but added that Apple's wasn't ready to reveal what it's been working on yet. "...we currently feel comfortable in expanding the number of things …

    Update: Aaaaaaand it's gone. Google's store is now marked as out of stock. Last week Google Glass ditched the invites and went on sale to anyone and everyone for just one day. That meant that whoever wanted to snag Glass could do so without any caveats, like having to sign up for the Explorer program or wait on an invite. While the Glass page is currently showing the program as closed once again, it appears that Glass may still be available for purchase directly from Google. Continue reading...

    This blog was written by Himadri Sarkar, Program Manager, Windows Networking With the Visual Studio 2013 Update 2, we can now build Windows Store and Windows Phone Store apps from a single source project. Because the WinRT Windows.Networking.BackgroundTransfer API is available both for Windows Store and Windows Phone apps, it is the API to use for background transfers in any universal app project. However, there are a few usage and behavioral differences between the two platforms that you should be aware of. API differences Though the whole Windows.Networking.BackgroundTransfer API namespace is available to Windows and Windows Phone, there are some differences …

    I've received the numerous phone scam calls, but unfortunately a gullible friend got the call and gave them remote access, now the computer is locked. I ran the upgrade advisor as I have xp media center sp3. It says it cannot verify NX or XD setting on my bios. Recommends I access the bios and see if its there and activate it. Couldn't find it under the stated security heading or anywhere else. The advisor states that windows 8.1 will absolutely not run with a nx equiped bios. Motherboard is an Intel 915GAVL Prescott Mainboard LGA775 c/w Intel 3.0 GHz LGA775 533MHz/1MB Cache. Of course I cant return the windows 8.1 DVD after I've opened it. The advisor states if it cant find this setting it will revert to previous OS. Does anyone know if this motherboard will run windows 8.1? Continue reading...
