When I go to shut down my PC, this PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA fault appears the traditional blue screen of death. It then executes a process from 0% to 100%, which takes several minutes before rebooting. It says to search online for more information on the error. After it has rebooted, I can successfully shut down without the error. I've seen other comments with this error, but not solely at shut down (others seem to see it at start up or during their session). What are the best steps to find the root cause and remedy this fault? Thanks. Continue reading...

OK... I installed Windows 8 a few weeks back on my computer. I upgraded to Windows 8.1, but it screwed with my wireless, so I had to downgrade back to Windows XP. Now when I try to reinstall Windows 8, it says that "this product key did not work. Please check it and try again or try a different key". Yet I am using the product key from my order, and I am copying and pasting it from my e-mail to ensure it works. Yet it doesn't. Please help. I've wasted the last 24 hours trying to fix this to no avail. Continue reading...

Hello there, I am using Windows 8 I was downloading something and then I left the laptop on for a while and went to do another thing. When I came back, the laptop had gone into "Sleep" Mode. It happens a lot, and I usually just press the power button, type my password and then all's well. This time though, the "welcome" sign took so long and I had to manually reboot the computer. Any reasons why this happened? It had happened once before too, but I didn't give it much thought. Any help would be appreciated. :) -Dahlia Continue reading...

i recently bought windows 8 . My screen resolution is 1280x720. The computer says that it is lower than 1024x768. So my windows store and apps do not run. When i change it to 1024x768 the appearance of the screen is not good. The icons become large and the screen a little blur. Can you please help me find a solution to this problem so that my apps run in THE RECOMMENDED RESOLUTION i.e. 1280x720 instead of 1024x768. Continue reading...

Greetings all, My home network's HomeGroup is owned by a PC that is no longer present. (It was accidentally left on the roof of my car...before a trip on the freeway.) Now I would like to change the HomeGroup owner to a PC I still have. I found no way to do this through the Win 7 Pro GUI. So I searched the registry for instances of the lost computer's name. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\HomeGroup\UIStatusCache | ModifierSystem HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\HomeGroup\HME\Members | 18-3D-A2-1B-8D-70 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\HomeGroup\HME\Members | B4-99-…

Plugging in my iPhone 5 on my HP Windows 7 desktop PC causes Autoplay to pop up and ask to import the pictures from my iPhone. However, when it is done with all the pictures and I go to close it using the red x or the cancel button, it asks me if I want to cancel the import. Regardless of what I say the window then freezes and the only way to get rid of it is to reboot. Once I reboot and plug in my iPhone the same thing happens with all the same pictures being downloaded again in a new folder. Right now I have these same pics in multiple folders, so they are being downloaded. Autoplay doesn't seem to be marking the pics as being downloaded and then hangs…

I have a smart card reader already built into my computer. When I had windows xp it worked fine. When XP went to the wayside and I started having issues with it, I loaded Windows 7 Professional onto the computer. Now my smart card readers won't work and I have already tried downloading drivers for it. I have also tried turning it the plug and play off and back on. It just is not recognizing the readers. Anyone have any suggestions? Continue reading...

I am running Win 7 Ultimate and have been uising Defender as a resident antivirus. It shows nothing out of the ordinary when I run a scan. By mistake I ran a quick scan with Microsoft Security Essentials and it finds a virus. (virus: DOS/Rovnix/A) it claims it cleans and all is ok but wif I reboot and rerun the scan it finds it again. I have tried the remove and the clean options and it claims it worked...However if I reboot and rerun the scan it finds it again. Do I need to worry? Is there an anti-virus that will remove it? I am not adept with regedit and dont feel qualified to try deleting it manually...HELP Continue reading...

My school teacher daughter got a phone call posing as Microsoft stating that she owed seven years of fees for not registering Windows which with penalties was several hundred dollars. After phone negotiation it was reduced to a sum she was willing to pay. She allowed him to install software on her computer to take over and help her set up the payment. Hard to believe but she was set to give him the last four digits of her bank account when she got cold feet and called me. As soon as I could absorb what she was saying I told her to stop. As soon as she hung up to call me he started sending ugly chat messages calling her a **** and other names. She couldn't get out of the p…

I have a large number of large text files I'm trying to format generally for ebook (Calibre can't do what I want), but each contains a formatting I don't know how to get around: Quote: This is a sentence in a paragraph. This is the final sentence in the paragraph. Begin next paragraph. I'd like to remove the LF at the end of only those lines NOT ending in a period. So if there's a period followed by a LF, the LF is not removed. The end result would look like this: Quote: This is a sentence in a paragraph. This is the final sentence in the paragraph. Begin next paragraph. I can fish around and do some things with sed and tr, but this is beyond me. I never co…
