During the Philips presentation at the IFA Global Press Conference in Belek, Turkey, the focus was on its Android powered TV sets. But also getting a mention was Hue, Philips' popular smart lighting system, and some pretty nifty integration with its Ambilight TVs. With one special mention for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Brazil this summer. Continue reading...

My new hp photosmart 7525 prints images, but the images are off-center, and a white border (anywhere from 0.5 to 2 cm wide) appears. Sometimes a singular border is along a single side, other times along perpendicular sides. The orientation seems to be dependent on which file is selected. These borders appear despite my selection of "borderless printing" for 4x6 glossy paper. HP tech support says that the problem is an application (Windows Picture and Fax Viewer) problem and not a hardware one. I would like a photo without any border. Continue reading...

After Microsoft announcing windows phone 8.1 keyboard feature known as Word Flow I was really fascinated by it using developer preview and wanted to ask, if Microsoft is planning to work on Window's RT/8 version of keyboard to add such a great feature to it? Thanks a lot! PS Is there a possibility to ask for such a feature for WinRt, may be, through user voice? Continue reading...

Original Title: Acer V5-122P won't update windows I recently bought an Acer V5-122 and it came with windows 8. I am attempting to update to Windows 8.1 however it keeps telling me i need to do the windows updates before I can do this. Everytime I try to do the windows update it either gets stuck on 'checking for updates' or if it gets through tells me there are 99 updates and stays stuck on 'downloading updates' once I start the install but doesn't ever move. I have ran the troubleshooters i have found on a similar question here and everything seems to be fine. Internet and everything else it running fine. Any help would be appreciated! i usually keep it on at all times (except when I go to bed and shut down), and have the screen set to 'do nothing' when closed. I had closed the screen for second, and when I opened it back up it immediately BSOD'd. i'm pretty sure I downloaded all the proper drivers... I used Lenovo's site, and downloaded/installed everything for this model. but, in the Windows message/notification thing I've been getting a message that my power management driver isn't installed, but it is! I dunno what gives? :( what I have: Lenovo U310 Ultrabook (non-touch) 3rd Generation Intel® Coreâ„¢ i5-3317U (1.70GHz, 3MB) 8GB (upgraded from 4GB, because the other ram died) DD…

Upon installing aforementioned critical updates on my work station, my wired Ethernet home network began to act erratically. Initial issue was the inability to print on network attached printers which progressed to connectivity problems with remote desktop then inability to open some programs/ apps. Looking into the network it was noted that the IP addresses had changed (the printers had static IPs with the DHCP router having reserved IPs for the printers and attached PCs ). Upon using system restore, picking a point previous to the updates, network/ program issues were resolved; upon reapplying the updates one by one the issues began to reappear. I need help/ advice on h…

Hello, I've been experimenting with Speech recognition and WSR macros, and I've set up user profiles on WSR and would like to know, primarily, how to switch profiles from CMD prompt, after which i can write macros to switch. Also, is there a way to set up a windows speech profile that is not coded to any one voice? that uses less processor speed and has a limited vocabulary so that at any time the profile can be switched. Thanks Continue reading...

In the past month or so I have begun having problems with the antimalware service executable hogging the cpu. I run the apache server on my W/8.1 PC for application testing. When I use my browser to access a local web page served by apache, the antimalware service executable consumes about 50% of the CPU time for 20-30 seconds and access to the web page is delayed during this interval. The url being accessed is in the trusted sites list (as it has been for some time). I have no idea what I may have done to cause this problem. Access times on the local Apache server used to be split-second, now every local web page takes 20-30 seconds. <Moved > …

I was on YouTube looking for a certain file, and came across it. I downloaded it and it was a .RAR file. I clicked on it and inside it had an application called "install.exe". I clicked it and it brought up some errors and closed everything that I had opened. It then came up with an error and closed every program I tried to open. I realized I downloaded something malicious and rebooted my Windows 8.1. It booted like normal and once it loaded my user, instead of showing the Metro interface it instead came up with a window similar to the one that pops up when you open an administrator program and it asks for the admin password. This said the following: Window name: Use…

I ran into a FBI cyberpolice scam page last week. I have a desktop with Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 11. I have since decided that IE11 is not for me so I rolled it back to IE10. Anyway. Now I click on a link or shortcut to a website and it loads, and then something loads behind it saying that I need to upgrade my browser, or upgrade my media player, or computer is running to slow and I need to fix this. Click here for installation. I right-click the back arrow button and it shows: (some numbers and // and such) SUP the webpage I had clicked the link for. Is this a hack or is it a virus? I have cleaned all of the internet caches. I've purge all history…
