I run MikTeX 2.9 and Windows 8 on my HP laptop. MikTeX is an app which helps typeset articles for science journals. The MikTeX program comes with a package manager (for installing formatting packages already included with MikTex) and "MikTeX update", which allows users to download new packages and upgrades, as they become available on the MikTeX website. When I try to run either program, I get an error message "Windows API error 5 (or 5c) Access denied". ( I believe "already included" packages also must go to the MikTeX website, because there is only a .tpm file on my computer, for each "already included" package.) My HP laptop prompts to restart as soon as I connect to internet through USB modem. It shows a blue screen with error 'Bad Pool Caller' and the screen remains as it is. I have to manually shut it down through power button. I am unable surf the internet and upgrade to windows 8.1. I have installed on my PC, windows 7 64 bit. I have a ssd and the starting of programs is fast. But there is something strange with the windows task scheduler. It takes some time to start for the first time. If i close it and re-open it, then it always opens fast. But there are also sometimes that when i open it for the first time, it is loading fast. Hi, I recently came across an issue which led me to believe that my Administrator account on a laptop had been switched to a Standard account. The User Account display showed that it was an administrator account but the radio button selected was for a Standard User. Thinking that the account type had been changed I tried to select Administrator but the Change Type button then became greyed out. I woke up this morning after letting Windows update do its thing, some security update, and IE 11 I believe, and my desktop has been reverted to a factory fresh look, all the folders and icons I had there are now gone. My log in picture as well. All my schoolwork is gone. I tried system restore, it gave me the same exact new desktop, even though I picked a date from a month ago. Microsoft Security Essentials version 4.5.216.0 is unable to successfully remove TROJAN:DOS/Alureon.K from Windows Vista SP2 64-bit operating system. I'm currently using Win 8 x64 and am using WinDefender. It's on for real-time protection and I occasionally do a Quick or Full scan manually. However I cannot do a custom scan on any of my drives, including C: It immediately gives me the error "Your PC couldn't be scanned" "The program could not find the malware and other potentially unwanted software on this computer." I have a thread that is blocked in recvfrom() call, which I want to bring down cleanly. Originally I just closed the socket from main thread and it worked fine on the mac os, but as I moved the program to linux, the recvfrom() continued blocking even after closing the thread, so I moved to using pthread_cancel() (and trying to be really, really careful not to leak anything with it :) ). But it seems to me people in general seem to be against using pthread_cancel() (and on one of the test devices I'm getting SIGABRT signal every time using the pthread_cancel), so I was wondering if there are other, better ways to bring the blocked thread down safely. I just got ahold of an HP G70 250US laptop, it has no hdd. I installed Ubuntu 14.04 to a 64g flash drive and it is working great. I just bought a "Kingston Digital 120GB SSDNow V300 SATA 3 drive", how can I put my os from the flash to the ssd without reinstalling, I can do that if I have to but wanted to do something different. I would also like to keep a copy of this updated and setup os to use for other installs on other machines. I don't care much for Unity but I use the Cairo-Dock which I really like. I've been using clam tk to check for viruses. Lately it will not update the virus or the Gui, there are xs in the row of the virus and gui. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. I am attempting to search through several lines of text with the following reg expression using grep: Code: grep -o '9[0-9] [8-9][0-9] 9[0-9].*\{40\}' sample.txt Works but grep does not always return the following 40 characters. Instead it only returns up to 40 characters to the EOL which ever comes first. What I am looking to do is get the following 40 characters whether there is an EOL within the following 40 characters or not.
