Hello microsoft,, i have posted this issue earlier.let me describe it once again.My compute's monitor goes blank (or dark)as like it is switched off,and returns back in 4/5 seconds,and it continues very annoyingly. I have tried many solutions but i couldn't find the problem. But now, i have turned off my nvidia geforce7025/nvidia 630a inbuilt graphics card in device manager, windows began to run on its basic graphics. and fortunately, it had no problem!! It downloaded a big chunk of them and then in the middle of the download, it stopped and gave me this error: the library, drive or media pool is empty I then tried to download again with the same error. Hi all. I just got a new Toshiba laptop with Win 8. I am having some issues taking screen shots. It seems the keystrokes are not the standard ones for Win 8. Here is what I know of: prtscn alone does nothing. win+prtscn does nothing. fn+prtscn copies the screen shot, just like I expected prtscn alone to do. fn+alt+prtscn copies and saves the screen shot. Now here's the interesting part. If I pull up the digital keyboard, the standard shortcuts work. What is going on here? This is important because I have a broken hand and it is problematic to have to use both hands to do this since the buttons are across the keyboard from one another. I am taking a…

Some months ago, I upgraded to Windows 8.1 from XP, really a big step. I have been working in this 'IT-area' since late of 1960's when there was only punch-cards to instruct the computer. I managed via Google-search to find a solution to remove the required password when starting my computer. So, I know there must be a way to avoid giving passwords within the same computer for different users when switching between my user and my wife. This is a report of my long and trying attempts to fix an obscure Windows Update problem, and in the end I did manage to fix it. Several times now, my wife's HP laptop has reverted to what appears to be the original Windows 7 install, including the factory wallpaper, which is how we know that today is not going to be a good one for computing in our household.. Her files are all there, in the right places, but when I try to run any office program, the computer acts as though I'm installing Office for the first time. I am using Windows Defender on a laptop and have noticed that it will start to sleep part way through the scan. If I do not interrupt the sleep mode Window Defender will pause and wait for me to wake up the laptop, this may be several days before I return. I have done everything possible to prevent the sleep cycle from occurring, including setting the power management to "Never turn off", staying nearby so I can stop the laptop from cycling. But this can only be done if I have the time to actually be available to perform this task which should be unnecessary to perform anyway. Continue reading...

Hi - The infection was on another drive on an old PC and was removed before the old PC went to PC heaven. I had already removed the virus - copy below - from the old PC and and then bought a new HP PC running Win 8.1 I have now added as an external drive the drive from the old PC to the new PC so I could pick up old files needed How can I restore the original jpegs etc ? Windows8.1 I just noticed the Action Center alert in my notification area today and it says that my spyware/antivirus programs are turned off. I go to windows defender and it says that it is turned off so I open windows defender and press the "Turn on" button, defender then grays out for about a minute and gives me the error code 0x800705b4 Real-time protection couldn't be turned on. This operation returned because the timeout period expired. I accidentally accepted the premium trial version of MalwareBytes when I downloaded it a while ago. So ever since the first time I opened a browser (went from IE to downloading Chrome, but I've had the same issue) I have been getting ads popping up on the left, bottom, and right sides of the screen. This is incredibly frustrating, and I have no clue how to fix it. If I wanted a computer to spam me with ads after I clicked a page, I would have kept my old Dell. In Mavericks, Apple has apparently moved control of log rotation to ASL. There's a 'ttl' value to determine how long log files will stick around for. I can compress them, change the way they're named, limit them by size, etc. But the one thing I cannot find is how to NOT keep one log file per day... One of them is a keyboard-driven experience with high degrees of customizability, and while I'm not a particularly sophisticated computer user and want a user-friendly experience, I'm not intimidated by a (fairly) steep learning curve coming from Win 7. I've gotten the idea that right setup for me is more a matter of desktops than distros, and that if I install say, Mint or Ubuntu, I can use any desktop I want. I briefly had Ubuntu on a machine several years ago, but the hard drive failed before I had delved deeply into it. I'm going to install Mint or Ubuntu in a dual-boot w/ Win 7. I currently have the My Music and My Videos on a 2nd hard drive and plan to move the rest of My Docs there before installing Linux. Is it feasible to use this drive as my home folder? If so, will the default Music/Video/Pictures folders in the home folder identify my media, or alternately, can I configure them to use the My Music/My Video/My Pictures folders? If I can't use that drive as the home folder, can I still configure the default folders in Home to use My ****** folders? All help is…

Hi all... I have been running Linux for over a year now and have always had a problem with the mouse being way too sensitive to touch. I've been in the speed configuration and it's set to the 'slowest' value you can set. Having dealt with this ad nauseum, I'm hoping that someone will come up with a good way to do this, that works! I've seen many 'solutions', but none of them work. I've seen using 'xinput --list' used, but it's apparently not loaded and not knowing what I'm actually using seems to be a problem.
