Hello guys, I'm running RHEL on a Cisco UCS system provided by four CPU sockets but with only two CPUs filled in (so two CPU sockets are empty). I'd like to upgrade my system adding two other CPUs (of the same type). Do I need to reinstall the OS after the upgrade or RHEL will seamlessly manage the new CPUs? Has anyone experience on this? Thanks a lot! PS: RHEL is installed on the bare metal (no virtualisation hypervisor). Continue reading...

Hi. I'm new to the site. I've been dabbling in linux for a while. I started my journey into linux using Ubuntu 12.04 I believe? Loved it a lot. But then I decided to try out different distros like Elementary OS, Antergos, Manjaro, Linux mint, etc. I find myself kinda stuck at the moment. I'm looking for a new distro to try out. Preferably rolling release if possible. Lately I've been trying out different Debian-based distros. I really like Semplice out of most of them I've tried. Makulu is another one that is also great. Here's what I'm looking for Stable/rolling release Up to date software Easy to use/beginner friendly Has a similar look/feel to LMDE Continue…

I've got a raid array, I'm not getting any raid errors, but I'm getting some errors in /var/log/messages (fedora) that appear to be disk/controller related. Most of the errors don't indicate a specific drive, but occaisionally indicate sdd. Can anyone give me some more specific on the errors? I am thinking I'll fault/remove/replace sdd and see if the errors go away. Still, strange to me raid doesn't fault/remove the drive automatically, no? Errors below. Thanks for any advice. - Mike use=00000084 pp_flags=00000001, dev error, EDMA self-disable May 15 21:25:22 ash kernel: [125334.509114] ata5.00: failed command: READ DMA May 15 21:25:22 ash kernel: [125334.516975] ata…

The indie puzzle game Thomas Was Alone has now been ported from the PC and Mac platforms to run on iOS. The game is an immersive adventure that's driven by narration where users control and direct various rectangular shapes, one of which is named Thomas, to exit points at each level. Each shape will have its own unique personality and capability, so the shapes will have to work together to jump and overcome obstacles before arriving at the point of exit. The game is a simple and minimalistic game that is "about friendship and jumping," according to the description posted on Apple's App Store. There are 100 levels and the story is narrated by Danny Wallace. Though the…

Based on a current promotion with Real Racing 3 that's offering free in-app purchases, the ability for app developers to hand out promo codes for in-app purchases may be in the works. Currently, those who purchase Real Racing 3 (an EA title) are being offered a "Handful of Gold" via an email promo code to receive in-game currency, which is then redeemed in the App Store. Developers have had the ability to give promo codes to purchase paid apps — often used for giveaways or reviewers — for some time now, but the ability to give away free codes for in-app purchases is a new one. It isn't clear right now whether Apple has a specific deal going on with EA to offer the "H…

Adobe's Creative Cloud service has been down for a little over a day now and the company is hard at work on restoring the ability to log in and access to Creative Cloud. Stranded users have been reaching out to Adobe with pleas for help as well as venting their frustration on Twitter since the outage began yesterday. According to Adobe, the issue is due to Creative Cloud being "impacted by [an] Adobe login issue." Creative Cloud is a set of online tools that are available online when Adobe migrated its Creative Suite software online. As Creative Cloud is relied upon by creative professionals, including photographers and web designers, the issue means delays and mi…

Bentley has released a new ad that touches their cars that you're likely to never be able to afford, but in an interesting twist the entire thing was recorded with a few iPhone 5s handsets and assembled using an iPad Air. Granted, they're using fancy add-on lenses and motorized rigs that you probably don't have. And they got to edit it in the back of a $300,000 Bentley Mulsanne. But otherwise, it's just like the videos you can make with your iPhone and iPad. That said, there are a lot of tools you can add to your arsenal to enhance your iPhone videography capabilities. Your iPhoneography skills, if you will. There are crazy rigs that can mount your lenses and the sim…

A quick heads up for those of you rocking the official iMore App on Android — we've pushed out an update today with a number of important fixes. You're going to want to make sure you download this one, particularly if you've seen increased data usage or are using the widget on your home screen. The fixes apply to all the editorial (ie not the Tapatalk-esque one) apps for all our Mobile Nations sites, including Connectedly, CrackBerry, Android Central and WPCentral. Here's the deal: As we mentioned a couple days ago on Google+, we'd discovered a bug in Android regarding the way a widget writes to disk. As in it wasn't, and it should have been, and so the widget was…

This post was written by Tõnu Vanatalu, Senior Lead Program Manager, Developer Engagement at Microsoft Windows Runtime APIs expose many functions to deal with playing and recording audio for both Windows Store apps and Windows Phone apps (starting with Windows Phone 8). These APIs handle all complexities like audio format conversion, different sample rates, and different hardware capabilities. There are, however, some scenarios where you want to render or capture sample by sample. Fortunately, Windows has a low level audio access component called WASAPI–the Windows Audio Session API–which enables organized access to low level audio functionality for desktop applica…

I tried to start my computer and it went into a bad path. No start, but did return the following message: Loading PBR for descriptor 2 . . . done NTLDR is missing Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart Needless to say it didn't. I went into the F12 options and started the diagnostics package, clicked on OS won't boot, and after a couple of hours was told everything had passed the tests. Still could not start - after about a 3-hour test. Will try a different test, but I don't hold much hope. What is NTLDR and how can I put a copy wherever it is supposed to go? Am I looking at having to ship the disk unit to a data recovery company? Even i…

I just purchased a floor model HP ENVY model 14-k027cl laptop running Windows 8 from Sam's Club. There was nothing with the computer-even the power supply was missing. When I powered it up, it started on the activation screen, waiting for a connection to the internet. I was able to get to the desktop and connect to my router, and it no longer asks me to activate. However, there is a user "zz" on the computer, and the computer name is "sams" I thought that it might be a good idea to just start all over again, since I have not installed anything on it, but I have the following questions: Do I need some sort of activation key to reactivate it after starting from scra…
