Hey guys, I have a question. I have dealt with about 16 cases of Crypt locker and I have noticed that it encrypts mapped drives as well. But what I was wondering is would Cryptlocker encrypt a One Drive as well? I am sure that the program could encrypt it but I was curious as to if it has been seen in the wild? Thanks, Ridge Continue reading...

My computer has been running very slow lately and now it is at the point where it won't even open anything or load my tool bar or start menu.. So I looked up on my phone what to do and I found out I had to restart my computer and use safe mode with networking.. Then I tried to download virus protection (I already have AVG protection) but no matter what it says "Failed-Blocked" so it won't download the latest protection.. Any suggestions on how to clean my computer and/or check for a virus/malware when my computer won't pull anything up or download anything?? Thanks!! Continue reading...

This morning Xubuntu popped a window and informed me I could upgrade from 13.10 to 14.04 by merely pushing a button.Who could resist? The window showed download progress on a lot of files and then began the installation progress. Shortly after it disappeared which I presumed wasn't a good thing. I rebooted and ran "apt-get update" and it showed some problems the root of which seemed to be uno-libs3 which is a libreoffice dependency. It's installation was seriously munged. It couldn't be removed normally though libreoffice was removed successfully. To remove it I ran: Code: sudo dpkg --purge --force-remove-reinstreq uno-libs3 This cleaned it up. After that: Code:…

IDC posted their quarterly numbers of the international tablet market. They're showing a slight dip in iPad dominance and growth from Samsung. Apple dropped from 40.2% of market share in the first quarter of 2013 to 32.5% in Q1 2014, compared to Samsung who went up from 17.5% to 22.3%. According to IDC, Amazon, Asus, and Lenovo each occupy 5% or less of the current global market share, with the remaining 34% claimed by other manufacturers. The overall market has dipped 35% since the holiday quarter which isn't much of a surprise, but it's up 3.9% since a year ago. Traditionally, Apple has dominated the tablet space, but the gap with Samsung is quickly closing. It's h…

Beats Music has updated to version 2.0, and the highlight of the update is native iPad support. The iPad version includes all of the features of the original app, taking advantage of the iPad's larger screen to show you more and speed up navigation. There are some differences in behavior between the iPhone and iPad versions of the app. Where the iPhone app treats the Library, Playlists, and other sections found in the sidebar as separate screens, the iPad version overlays them on top of the app's home screen while the sidebar is out. Every section is just a tap away, without the need to swipe. In addition to iPad support you can also now find and follow your frien…

Apple is continuing their investment in indoor location tracking with a new hire. Philip Stanger, founded Wifarer, though the company itself isn't coming to Apple with him. Stanger's hire falls in line with Apple's acquisition of WifiSLAM last year, which, like Wifarer, uses Wi-Fi hotspots throughout large facilities like museums to figure out where you are on a map when proper GPS isn't available. Stanger's new position at Apple hasn't been made specific, but he's apparently in a "leadership role" iBeacon is of course Apple's take on indoor positioning, and it's seeing some healthy uptake lately. Just look at Apple's recent partnership with Virgin at Heathrow airpor…

Your iPhone is set up by default to receive AMBER (America's Missing: Broadcasting Emergency Response) Alerts and other kinds of emergency government alerts via Notification Center. Apple has worked with carriers to provide government alerts, including AMBER and other emergency notifications, in the U.S. and other countries. Depending on the nature of the alert, which can include child abductions and impending natural disasters, it's a great feature that can save a life, or many lives, not to mention prevent injury and property damage. By their nature, however, these alerts don't respect Do Not Disturb settings which can make them rather alarming if they happen when you'r…

This week Apple managed to complete a bond sale of $12 billion. In short, Apple raised $12 billion in several tranches with maturity dates spread between three and 30 years. The yields on the bonds range between 1.07% and 4.43%. Some Apple followers are curious why they're doing this. In simple terms, Apple has committed to return some of its cash to shareholders and one tax efficient way to do this is buy back its own stock. Here's how it works: Apple uses its cash to buy back Apple stock The number of shares in existence drops (by however many Apple buys for cancellation) The earnings per share of Apple's remaining share rises because the corporate p…

The most compelling mobile apps take advantage of notification services in order to dynamically update based on external criteria. On Windows Phone, Live Tiles are perhaps one of the most distinct features that drive app adoption, so its critical to understand how these services work, and how you can use them to drive these dynamic experiences. Thomas took time from his extremely busy schedule to walk through some of the most exciting new aspects of the Windows Notification Platform that were announced at Build this month, and to demonstrate some of the newly supported developer scenarios. Here are some links to relevant related material touched on in the convers…

During last month’s //build/ conference we delivered a ton of news and technical content to help you capitalize on the shift toward mobile-first and cloud-first development. Reactions to our new operating system updates and features have been tremendous - everybody loves Cortana. Similarly the ability to create universal Windows apps that span phone, PC, and eventually Xbox is creating renewed excitement for our platform. I also recognize, though, that behind the slides and headlines are several new concepts that may take some getting used to. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve received questions and feedback from many of you who want to further understand what we’re do…

I wish to transfer my recorded camcorder tapes to an Android Tablet and to do this I have been using my main line computer. To start with I down loaded the camcorder tape to my computer using Windows Movie Maker in AVI format . When the film was installed in Windows Movie Maker I then used that progamme to edit the film up into smaller sections of film that I required . Having done that I saved each short film to "My Vidio,s" on my computer .The next step is to trasfer each film to Windows Media Player and Sync it to my tablet (having connected the tablet to my computer). The problem is that the process of saving each film to "My Vidio,s" changes the format to MSWMM whi…

Hi folks, I have had my new PC (HP Pavilion 23xi) just a few days with Windows 8. Within a folder containing MP3 audio files I had selected for the 'Duration' column to be displayed, yesterday it did exactly that and I could see song lengths, but today it shows blank for every file and is the same in any folder I select. I cant think what variable(s) could have caused this change? Also, is it possible to customize the columns which appear? I seem to be able to do it to individual folders but can a user make changes that will effect for all futures folders which are created? Many thanks for any help which can be offered Rich Continue reading...
