Google Play Music iPad UI discovered within iPhone app
by Guest Alex Dobie- 0 replies
Google Play Music has been available for iPhone since late 2013, but so far users of Google's streaming music app have been without an official iPad app. Today, however, we're getting our first look at what Google Play Music for iPad might actually look like, as 9to5Mac has published images of the app's tablet UI. What's more, it seems the iPad version is actually buried in the current iPhone app. As you might expect, the layout looks like a cross between the current iPhone app and Android tablet layout for Google Play Music, with albums and playlists arranged as "cards," and a slide-out navigation bar for moving between the main parts of the app. A have als…

Should modern web browsers show the URL or just the site name? [Poll]
by Guest Rene Ritchie- 0 replies
Should web browsers stop showing URLs? A recent Canary build of Google Chrome replaced the uniform resource locator (URL) of websites with the domain name of the website. So, for example, instead of www.imore.com/should-modern-web-browsers-show-url-or-just-site-name it would only give you imore.com. This has sparked an interesting debate about the nature of the web, technology, and usability. URLs are inhuman but they're also a foundational part of the web. So, should they be hidden away to make a simpler, cleaner web, or do they need to be preserved because they functionally matter? Allen Pike sums up where we are today: More recently, browsers started hiding th…

Fund This: Impervious, an affordable spray-on waterproofing and scratch-resistant coating
by Guest Simon Sage- 0 replies
The funding campaign for Impervious is in the home stretch of offering affordable, easy-to-apply waterproofing and scratch protection for your iPhone. Users simply spray on and let dry. Apparently there's no residue left behind at all, assuming you follow the instructions. Each treatment is good for three years, though it uses up the whole $30 bottle. Your iPhone's camera and speaker system are unaffected by the treatment as well. Though a complete internal and external application should provide submersion protection, the developers aren't suggesting it. In any case, an external application will protect against spills of all kinds. The only viable consumer-grad…

How to create and customize vibration alerts on your iPhone
by Guest Allyson Kazmucha- 0 replies
By default your iPhone uses two quick vibration pulses for a text message and a continuous steady pulse vibration for incoming calls. All other Notification Center alerts receive a single vibration. But what if you want something different so you can easily tell what kind of notification you're receiving without even looking at your iPhone? As it happens, you can do just that by creating and assigning your own vibration patterns. Here's how: How to create your custom vibration patterns on the iPhone How to disable vibration alerts on a per-app basis How to delete custom vibrations on iPhone How to create and assign custom vibration patterns on the iPhone Laun…

I must switch off the machine and switch it back on again, it starts up and a screen appear: Safe Mode; Command Prompt etc. with white letters. "Start Windows Normally" is highlighted, then I must wait for 30 sec, then Windows start up. During the countdown of the 30 sec, I must not press "Enter", then the whole procedure repeat itself, I must wait until the 30 sec are done, then Windows start-up normally. Even when I had to "restart" the PC during the Windows session the same problem came up. Once Windows is started up, I can c…

Hi, I have a PC that cannot upgrade to Windows 7 and must stay on XP. However since XP is out-of-support I don't want it to make other PCs on the domain network vulnerable. I have lost an inbox folder in my hotmail outlook live account
by Guest LucyCrawford- 0 replies

I haven't downloaded any software recently or upgraded anything as far as I can remember but a very important folder of e-mails has disappeared. I've just changed my password but the folder hasn't reappeared. If I search for a particular e-mail that would automatically be diverted to that folder it comes up in search results but I can't view the whole folder. I notice several people mention a manage folders option but I can't find the sun on the right side of the folders list - only on the right side of the screen but that doesn't give me the option to manage folders. Any help would be much appreciated as all my work e-mails were in there - help! Continue reading…

Today, we released an update to address a vulnerability in Group Policy Preferences (MS14-025). Group Policy Preferences was an addition made to Group Policy to extend its capabilities. Among other things, Group Policy Preferences allows an administrator to configure: Local administrator accounts (name of the account, account password, etc) Configure a service or scheduled task (allowed to specify alternate credentials to run as) Mount network drives when a user logs in (allowed to specify alternate credentials to connect with) Group Policy Preferences are distributed just like normal group policy: An XML file containing the settings is written to the SYSVOL share of the …

Dynamically loading libraries in an application can lead to vulnerabilities if not secured properly. In this blog post we talk about loading a library using LoadLibraryEx() API and make use of options to make it safe. Know the defaults: The library file name passed to LoadLibrary() / LoadLibraryEx() call need not contain an extension.

Windows 8 Pro OEM Upgrade Problem
by Guest Khairul Izwan- 0 replies
Hi All, I recently bought an Acer P3 tablet pre-installed with Microsoft Windows 8 Single Language. Since I need to use some of the feature only available with Pro version, I bought myself a Windows 8 Pro OEM license. Since there's no way to reinstall Windows 8 from start, I use the "Add New Features" to upgrade. Apparently the license doesn't work since it's a full 8 Pro license and the features requires the Windows 8 Pro Pack license instead. So, i make a call to Microsoft Tech Line, and hopeful that they can change the license to Pro Pack license. After 2 hours of inquiring and to final point, pleading for a change (it's not possible to exchange or refund from the…

How do I stop my cursor moving on its own?
by Guest Darryn Hope- 0 replies

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBWbcaHKCIM (Video of Screen Blips) I have an ASUS S400C 64-bit laptop computer with an Intel Core i3 CPU and 12 GM of RAM running Windows 8. Last month, the cursor controlled by a wireless mouse and keyboard I have used for roughly 2 years began moving on its own--erratically and unpredictably jumping to the lower left hand corner of the screen initially where random blips, dashes and spheres appear on the screen. It has taken me a month to capture the screen because every time i press record the blips stop. Today though I was an organiser on a webinar (which was completely distroyed by the random mouse clicks and blips) but for some rea…

task manager's "new task" and elevated privileges
by Guest SlickRCBD- 0 replies
In Windows XP (either, although I never tried xp 64), if I used "run as" to start task manager as an admin so I could "show processes from all users", I could also use the "new task" option to start an admin command prompt without going through the hassle of putting in the username/password again by doing "run as" on cmd.com. I just tried that trick with Windows 7 64-bit professional, but instead of doing "run as", I merely clicked the "show processes from all users" and let UAC prompt me for elevation. I used my admin account credentials at the UAC prompt, and then realized I needed to execute a command line command. However, when I choose "new task", I got an …

"0x0000009F" Stop error when you use L2TP tunnel to initialize a VPN connection computer that...
by Guest Mika305- 0 replies

As described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980399 I have exactly this problem: Consider the following scenario: You have a client computer is running Windows 7 You use a Layer Two Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) over IPsec tunnel to initialize a virtual private network (VPN) connection to a corporate network from the client computer. You disconnect the VPN connection. You put the client computer into Hibernate or Standby mode. In this scenario, the computer takes several minutes when it tries to enter Hibernate mode. Then the computer crashes. If I ever dial a L2TP VPN connection and disconnect the computer will crash on attempting to go to standby/slee…

Ethernet won't work even though it is plugged in.

My laptop recently stopped connecting to the Ethernet, even though the cable is plugged in and working (I know it's working because my Xbox One is on the same network and it's working just fine.) It only shows that the computer isn't connected to the internet, and troubleshooting the problem doesn't help at all. The wifi still works completely fine. Is there any easy way to fix this or could it be a hardware malfunction? Thank you! Continue reading...
