I have Windows 8.1 right now on my PC. I started from regular Windows 8 but when the free 8.1 came out I upgraded. I am currently having some issues and would like to Restore my PC. Now when I click on any option to Reset or Restore it states there is missing file that me Recovery Media or Installation Disc can provide. When I insert my Windows 8 installation disc it stated this is an invalid media. So now I have no way to Reset or Restore my PC. What is the solution to this? Continue reading...

I would like to delete the "reserve.tmp" folder in WinSxs. It was created when we got the update to prepare for W8.1 last year. It was supposed to disappear after awhile, but it remains to this day. This is 3gb of space crowding a small SSD. Is it safe to delete? I am not updating to 8.1 (please don't try to convince me). Continue reading...

I used CC cleaners Drive Wipe feature (Simple Over write 1 pass) and after it completed my hard drive went from 120 gigs to 28 gigs. I used it before and it didn't do that. I have two laptops and it only does it on the one. I also notice that when I try to convert videos using that computer it eats my hard drive up and never gets back to the original size after I delete the converted file. Is their a problem with my computer registering recovered space after deleting files including free space. Has anyone had this problem before. If I restore my system the problem goes away until I use CCleaner Drive wipe program or convert video files. It seems this is only happening whe…

A few days ago I noticed a new program running in the task manager called unsecapp.exe. It's in C:\Windows\System32\wbem\ and is 47,104 bytes in size. The description is "Sink to receive asynchronous callbacks for WMI client application" Ending the process doesn't seem to have any effect. It's not taking up very much memory/CPU and seems to function like any other regular background process. It was never running in the background until a few days ago, and I have no idea what's causing it. I ran several thorough virus scans and nothing came up, so I'm assuming it's safe, but I still want to know why it's running all of a sudden. Continue reading...

I received a phone call form a Microsoft person, I assume from India, they said my computer had errors, which it most likely does, and I again assume they were going to help me get rid of the errors. I say I assume this because I could not understand them. I also can not understand how one of the richest companies in the world can not hire Americans to do their phone work so that we Americans can understand them. I am not certain at this point that I will buy anything from Microsoft, if they don't give a damn about me by putting people on the phone that can not be understood, why should I give a damn about Microsoft? Continue reading...

Hello everyone! I'm having some trouble setting up proftpd and after much searching for answers, I've run out of things to try. I'm on Debian 7.5. Here is what I have working so far... The initial proftpd.conf works fine. With this setup I can log in with my Debian username and pass and access all the folders of my Debian installation. I can also upload and download. Here is what I would like to setup... I need a central folder that multiple users can log into. Each user will have their own unique username and password, but they all access the same folder. They should have permission to upload and download freely to that folder, but should not be able to navigat…

Carcassonne, a port of the popular German boardgame, has had a few additions to it since its initial release and it's time now for yet another expansion. This time around fans of the game have the ability, through in an in-app purchase to download 'The Phantom'. It's a new game piece that is ghostly-transparent and can be played in addition to a regular one during a players turn. Aside from letting you place it in addition to another piece, the Phantom works exactly like a normal follower but it's both a good thing to have and possibly a bad thing to have, depending on how you play the piece. If you're looking to purchase The Phantom, it can be had for only $.99 a…

As we head towards WWDC 2014 we thought it would be fun to look back at Apple World Wide Developer Conferences past, what they introduced, and what impact they made. We're starting with WWDC 2007, not only because there are 7 days left before WWDC 2014 kicks off, but because WWDC 2007 was the first to feature both OS X and iOS, and nothing has been the same since, not for Apple or for developers. WWDC 2007 was held in its usual home at Moscone Center West in San Francisco, California. It kicked off on Monday, June 11, at 10am PDT with a Steve Jobs keynote — the first since Apple previewed the original iPhone at Macworld some 6 months earlier. To say all eyes were on th…

iOS everywhere, including in the home, has been a logical area of future product speculation ever since Apple announced iOS in the Car in 2013 and launched it as CarPlay in 2014. A bi-directional version of Apple's TV-centric AirPlay, if Apple could project iOS onto a car display, why not a camera display? Why not every display? Conversely, if apps were using the iPhone and iPad as controls, why not make that experience even better? That's what the latest Apple home automation rumors focus on. But would it work? AirPlay is a fantastic service that has one ongoing area of limitation. While AirPlay audio is supported by a wide range of speaker systems, AirPlay video is c…

Kantar WorldPanel has released figures for the three months running up to April 2014, which show an increase in the number of manufactures competing for the top spots in the European smartphone market. The report also shows Android remaining in the lead when it comes to overall shares of the smartphone market. Google has 70 percent in the five big European markets and 51 percent in the US. While iOS retains a comfortable second place across the board, Windows Phone still climbs steadily as the underdog. One of the larger beneficiaries of this latest report regarding manufacturers is Huawei, which experienced a steep hike of 123 percent in the big five European market…

Google has released VirusTotal Uploader for OS X, an app that will let you upload suspicious apps and files to VirusTotal so they can be scanned by the service to identify malware. VirusTotal, purchased by Google in September 2012, has produced apps for Windows and Android, but this is the first VirusTotal product to be released on an Apple platform. Google hopes that users will upload more applications from Mac, which will expand the VirusTotal database, giving antivirus developers more to work with, according to the VirusTotal blog: Hopefully this will lead to VirusTotal receiving more Mac applications, diving deeper into an increasingly targeted OS by attack…
