Is Physical Hardware reserved related to bios?
by Guest briancoates- 0 replies
My resource monitor is indicating that my Physical memory is allocated poorly. Hardware Reserved 4097Mb In Use 943 Mb Modified 1Mb Standby 63 Mb Free 16Mb It is a HP Proliant ML100 G6 server running Windows 7Pro 32 bit. 5GB RAM installed - yes I know it can only utilize 4GB. Bios has not been updated since 2010. I think some RAM is set aside for the integrated Graphics. I tried to install a graphics card on one of the available PCI slots, but it just wouldnt work, so I gave up on that idea. Is there any way to free up some of that reserved memory, or is this just because the motherboard/bios/OS are possibly not completely compatible? Contin…

Windows 7 - Select Drag Crash for all programs if something is in clipboard.
by Guest CascadingIssues- 0 replies
The issue occurs when have either text or a picture occupying your clipboard (ctrl-c or copy on text or picture). If I were to select and drag something afterwords, the program would crash (Outlook, Powerpoint, etc). However if I were to manually clear the clipboard using a script provided by a friend, the problem no longer arises until I were to copy something into the clipboard again. I have tried reinstalling Microsoft Office, Windows 7 (updated to latest version) and updating Video Drivers. I am stumped as to what is causing this. Continue reading...

Updating bios for the wrong OS?
by Guest briancoates- 0 replies
This is probably an oddball situation. I have a HP Proliant ML100 g6 server, but I uninstalled Server 2003, and the machine is now running Windows 7 Pro 32bit. It works, but I I want to update the bios to a newer version. Hp's website has newer bios versions available, but none listed for Windows 7. It' sall for Windows Server OS, linux. QUESTION: Can I download a bios version specified for something like Windows Server 2008 and expect Windows 7 to work? Continue reading...

How do I get rid of default-search.net?
by Guest sbwald- 0 replies
I clicked on a free dictionary download, and it turned out to be adware which embedded itself in my browsers (Internet Explorer 8 and Mozilla Firefox 29.1). Now every time I open a browser window, I see a search page that looks something like Google, but with no logo, just a graphic (today it's Stevie Wonder, because it's his 64th birthday), a search box and, at the bottom of the screen, a small square display ad urging me to download various programs, supposedly to make my computer run better. Importantly, in the search bar in the upper right-hand corner of the screen, to the right of the address bar, I see "default-search.net", and in the address bar, I see "http://www.…

Is pop-up "Update Drivers" a legitimate message?
by Guest delraybuzz- 0 replies
After updating Internet Explorer 5/1, we logged in and a pop-up window appeared, purportedly from Microsoft, saying "Update Drivers". We searched through our Control Panel and Computer , OS:C, but found no evidence of drivers needing updating. Did a thorough security scan, with nothing appearing to be wrong. But are still afraid to click on this pop-up, with all the news about being hacked. Another pop-up appeared, saying "Errors: Window 7) also appearing to be from Microsoft. How can we tell if these are legitimate messages? I could not find an answer from Microsoft. And how can we eliminate these small windows without the possibility of getting a virus…

Hi guys! I am writing an a elaboration for Unix subject on my university. The title is "Solaris 11 virtualization and cloud computing solutions". I want to deeply understand what I am writing and i got stuck today at a resource classification. I dont know why - wheter im stupid, or foreigner and cant understand the english there (or both). Here is the part I cant undertand: d o c s.o r a c l e.c o m /cd/E26502_01/html/E29024/rmintro-21.html#scrolltoc (sry for spaces, not enough posts...) and there is the subtopic of "Resource Classification". I cant understand difference between explicit request for resource and implicit request for resource. Why askin…

[SOLVED] Ethernet via Wine?
by Guest ashbekah- 0 replies
Hi all, I am currently running ubuntu 12.04 via crouton on a chromebook 14. The chromebook does not have a port for ethernet hook up so I bought a rocketfish usb ethernet adapter. I have installed the drivers via wine on the ubuntu side. Is there any way to get ethernet to work on the chrome OS side, now that I have installed the drivers on ubuntu? I am assuming not, since everything on chrome has to go through the chrome store, but I am just wondering. I had originally thought that the ubuntu ethernet might work on it's own but now I realize that the internet has to first work on chrome os and then it follows through onto the ubuntu side so if it does not work on chro…

How to be immune to basic UDP/any port attack flood?
by Guest postcd- 0 replies

Hello, on server i have config server firewall and iptables. I would like server to be safe from basic UDP flood and any port attack flood. http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/3935/35039950.png https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rDgZndKmy...s1600/ddos.png So i want to ask if you can advice on which setting to lookup or which software to use? Example CSF mentioned above has this option: Quote: 16. Port Flood Protection ######################### This option configures iptables to offer protection from DOS attacks against specific ports. This option limits the number of connections per time interval that new connections can be made to specific ports. I have port 2…

Sonos has released a new Controller app for iOS that brings a new design as well as a bevy of new features. The app has been available for beta testing on Android since March. The app features an entirely new design that is split into three menus: music currently playing, what room it's playing in and music discovery for upcoming songs. The new version of the app allows you to easily create playlists from different streaming services, set multiple alarms and control the music playing in each room of your house from a single location. Also available is the ability to change surround sound settings for music playback. Another major feature is universal search across…

LG's Lifeband Touch and Heart Rate Earphones going on sale this month
by Guest Derek Kessler- 0 replies
Announced back at CES 2014, the LG Lifeband Touch fitness band and LG Heart Rate Earphones are due to go on sale this month. The Lifeband Touch, with its curved OLED display and motion-tracking sensors is due to hit shelves on May 18th, as are the heart-rate-tracking Bluetooth-connected Heart Rate Earphones (such an inspired name there). Both will connect to your Android or iOS device through LG's own fitness app, as well as MyFitnessPal or Runkeeper. The Lifeband Touch is a fairly standard approach to the fitness band, offering notifications and music control in addition to motion tracking via a tri-axis accelerometer and altimeter. The Heart Rate Earphones, howe…

Cue is the detailed connected health monitor on which you spit
by Guest Daniel Rubino- 0 replies
If you thought smartwatches and cars were the only big connected technologies coming in the next 24 months, you would be missing perhaps the biggest and most intriguing one for health and fitness: Cue. Instead of measuring your heart rate or sleep patterns, Cue goes for actual bio-testing of fertility (Luteinizing Hormone), testosterone, influenza, vitamin D and inflammation. Now you can place lab tech right in the privacy of your own home! That's the good news. The bad news is this sophisticated unit that works via Bluetooth to your smartphone isn't expected to be available until spring 2015, after FDA approval. Still, that's not stopping the company from taking pre…

Beats Music for iPad review: Putting music discovery front and center
by Guest Allyson Kazmucha- 0 replies
When Beats Music launched at the beginning of this year, it was iPhone only. Luckily that's now changed and Beats has now launched a dedicated iPad app as well. That's right, it isn't just a blown up version of the iPhone app, but one specifically designed to take advantage of the iPad's larger screen size. But does it fix any of my previous issues with Beats? Let's find out! Beats Music released their dedicated iPad app right after I decided to ditch the service altogether and go back to Rdio. And to my surprise and delight a lot of the quirks and issued I'd been having with the iPhone app didn't seem to be present in the iPad version. Whether or not the streaming i…

Windows API error 5
by Guest DonaldNeville- 0 replies
I run MikTeX 2.9 and Windows 8 on my HP laptop. MikTeX is an app which helps typeset articles for science journals. The MikTeX program comes with a package manager (for installing formatting packages already included with MikTex) and "MikTeX update", which allows users to download new packages and upgrades, as they become available on the MikTeX website. When I try to run either program, I get an error message "Windows API error 5 (or 5c) Access denied". ( I believe "already included" packages also must go to the MikTeX website, because there is only a .tpm file on my computer, for each "already included" package.) My best guess is I' m being frozen out of the MikTeX…
