Hi, I am a beginner to linux. I would like to understand the following. a) If I take the following linux distros as examples Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and Centos - -what are the differences between these 4 from an underlying code standpoint. Reason for the question: To understand whether testing a virtual appliance (targeted for one linux version) will work on the other. b) Any good internet resource you can point me to understand how these versions are different would be very helpful Thank You Ami.. As we head towards WWDC 2014 we thought it would be fun to look back at Apple World Wide Developer Conferences past, what they introduced, and what impact they made. Today let's take a look at WWDC 2010, the first post-iPad WWDC, and the last WWDC to feature the introduction of an iPhone... Apple's dominance as a mobile developer was on display in 2010. While in previous years WWDC tickets were available for weeks or even months prior to the date (with early bird discounts available, too), WWDC 2010 sold out in eight days — and every ticket was full price. The iPad made its debut in April of that year; by late May, Apple announced it had already sold 2 million of th…

Bank of America has had a pretty tired-looking (albeit functional) app for some time, and with today's update it's getting an interface refresh. No portion of the UI was left untouched, with a new main account screen that's simpler and more finger-friendly. You can quickly toggle between Bill Pay, Transfers and Deposit Checks along the top, or tap into your different accounts listed. A new slide-in panel gives you access to alerts, deals, settings, contact information and BofA locations. The app is still a tad less responsive loading than we'd like (we're assuming it's downloading the data as it goes to cut down on caching), but scrolling and selecting have picked up t…

Details of the Apple acquisition of Beats are shedding a bit more light on where the value is coming from, indicating that the streaming music portion of the company is worth just shy of $500 million. That places the value of the Beats Electronics business at $2.5 billion, which in itself had nearly $1.5 billion in revenue in 2013. Saying that the Beats streaming service is worth even $500 million is a bit ambitious, though, as it was revealed during the acquisition that it has only 250,000 subscribers, making each customer worth a whopping $2000. By contrast, Spotify has 10 million subscribers paying roughly the same $10 per month subscription fee and is valued at $4 …

Hi there I have been trying for a while now to get Windows XP reinstalled on an old laptop, simply to get it working again but the license key on the certificate is not working. This is very frustrating as I know that the key is valid and that it is legal. The sticker is still stuck to the bottom of the laptop and is still legible so I have been taking it from the source it was provided, but still is does not work. I am trying to install Windows XP Home on to an Acer laptop. The key is D22HK-4KP96-BYPB8-YYGQY-4VDHW. Please can someone confirm whether this code is still good to use and if it is not, please explain why.... Regards J Brewer C…

I have been deflecting calls from people who say there is a problem with my computer, claiming they are from "Windows Tech Department." A woman just called. She said her name was Fiona and her ID number was 1104. Her call back phone number is 1-866-539-8674. She was very nice, but persistent. I got her information to call her back. She said that every time we get on the Internet, some virus or damage of some sort is entering our computer. She wanted me to get on the computer right then, and she would show me all the error messages or some such thing. I said my husband was using the computer and that I was right in the middle of something, which was true. I d…

I have an asus ultra book. Model S500C. Recently, my laptop crashed in the middle of browsing the internet. Gave me the "there was a problem with your PC and needs to reset." It moved too fast before I could read it. Every time I start up, it goes through an automatic repair loop, to diagnosing your PC, then back to automatic repair. After a while of this, it goes to a blue screen that says "automatic repair could not repair your PC" I. Have tried refreshing my PC, factory reset (both just keep files and fully clean drive resets) and only getting the same error of "your PC failed to reset. No changes were made" I have tried resetting the uefi firmware settings to default …

As per the topic title is this an intended "feature" or a bug / oversight in Windows 8? Joining or starting a call using any major voice application (Skype Desktop, Steam, Google Hangouts via the Chrome browser) will cause windows to vastly decrease the volume of Metro Apps. Ending the call causes the apps to return to there original volumes Things I have tried: Right-click on the Speaker icon located in the notification tray (located at the end of your taskbar) Select Playback devices Select the Communications tab Select Do nothing Select Apply Select OK Result: Works perfectly for desktop apps as it did in Windows 7. Completely Ignored for Me…

I have a Raspberry Pi with a 1TB hard drive that is used for data logging and I need to be able to access the log files from a program running on Windows 7. The easiest way to do this would be to map the log files directory as a local Windows drive. I have samba installed and running on the Pi and everything appears to be running correctly as I can mount the directory as a remote drive on a Windows XP system with no problems. Using Windows 7, however, I always get the message "The specified network password is not correct". Searching for information on this typically leads me to the Local Security Policy settings for Network Security. Based on the information I've fo…

Hi all, Is it possible to have a batch file check the status (Enabled/Disabled) of a wireless adapter and as an outcome have it change the adapters setting to the opposite of it's current setting? i.e. If set as ENABLED, it will disable it as an outcome. If set as DISABLED, it will enable it as an outcome. Thanks as this would be extremely useful to overcome a recent problem with Windows 7 not recognising my dads laptop FN key (aeroplane mode). This application (sp-latest.exe) has requested to run every day for the last several weeks on my Surface Pro running Windows 8.1. It is located in C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Temp. I have declined to run it each time and have deleted it multiple times but it keeps coming back. It is unsigned and lists no author. I've run the Windows Defender Scanner and the Microsoft Safety Tool and neither detects it as a threat. I've only found one reference to it using both Bing and Google here http://www.herdprotect.com/sp-latest.exe-14612f7a36ebcdbde194f749ce23ce6513bf9e13.aspx. It only occurs on my Surface, none of my other computers are affected. Can anyone tell m…
