Windows key & OSX Preview.... wish list !
by Guest Chup- 0 replies
Two things that I miss are, from windows : The ability to press the Win Key and an arrow, and the current window would snap to that direction. This included multi-monitors, so if I have dual screen and have something far left, I can snap it to screen 1 right, then into screen 2, then snap to left or right in screen two... Hope that makes sense, it was a nice feature anyway! From OSX the space bar preview was nice... .anyone have anything like that? Also, are there any thing's that maybe I haven't seen yet there are nice (in a similar vein...) I'm using Ubuntu 14... Cheers :) Continue reading...

Rutledge Edition Book Book for MacBook case review
by Guest Peter Cohen- 0 replies
If you're looking for a unique carrying case for your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, take a look at Twelve South's Rutledge Book Book, because it's gonna be pretty hard to beat. When it's zipped up it makes it look like your laptop is an antique book. Accessory maker Twelve South has a knack for making great peripherals for Mac and iOS device owners like stands to prop up your iPad and a gadget that turns your MacBook's power adapter into a USB charger too. Their industrial design is unique but usually very complementary to Apple's own. Every so often, though, Twelve South gets a bit cheeky, and something like the Book Book is the result. It's a whimsical design that…

by Guest Derek Kessler- 0 replies

In addition to today's update to OS X Mavericks, Apple also today released an update to iTunes. Bringing the music/movies/tv/apps/syncing app to version 11.2 is a host of improvements for podcast listeners. The podcasts section on iTunes now includes an "All Unplayed" tab that, well, displays all of your unplayed podcasts. There's also a new Feed tab that allows users to browse podcast episodes that are available for downloading or streaming. Additionally, you can now save your favorite podcast episodes onto your computer, and can have episodes be automatically deleted after you're done listening to them. Speaking of podcasts, if you aren't already, you should be …

Fire up the Mac App Store, people, Mac OS X 10.9.3 is now available. The update brings a handful of improvements to Mavericks, including 4K display support for the new Mac Pro and late-2013 MacBook Pro laptops. Also included is the ability to sync contacts and calendars with an iOS device over USB (or, you know, you could just use iCloud or any other cloud service). Additionally, 10.9.3 improves support for VPN connections using IPsec and comes bundled with the previously-released Safari 7.0.3. The Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 update is available now via the Mac App Store. It's a heavy update, weighing in at 461MB on our retina MacBook Pro, though your megabytes may …

How to quickly delete photos and videos to free up storage on your iPhone or iPad
by Guest Allyson Kazmucha- 0 replies
It's all too easy for the Camera Roll on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad to grow out of control. The list grows incredibly, uselessly long and photos and videos end up eating up a ton of your storage space. If you have only 8GB or 16GB, or even 32GB there can come a time when you have to delete the old photos and videos on your iPhone or iPad in order to free up space for the new ones. You might even have to do it regularly! Luckily, Apple makes it fairly easy to delete large batches of photos or videos and reclaim your storage space! Note: Make sure you sync or upload any important photos or videos before deleting them! How to delete batches of photos and videos…

Microsoft Misconduct??
by Guest DirkRooker- 0 replies

I am using a legal copy of XP. It is my understanding that MS will not do anymore updates for XP. Two weeks ago I awoke to see that MS had still updated my computer even though they claim not to be doing so. Since that time, nothing has functioned correctly. I cannot access browsers. Several things seem to be disabled or poorly functioning. One obvious item tampered with was my legal copy of WordPerfect Office 12. I was using a legal copy of MS Office 2007. It stopped meeting my requirements when a spreadsheet I was running required more then the allotted 65,000 lines. I tried to get a patch from MS so I could continue using Excel. They would not give me a patch but …

Can't update java or Adobe Reader
by Guest DJ Sanderson- 0 replies

When I attempt to update Java I get a message that says it can't download the Java installation software. For Adobe Reader it says it failed to initialize. I can't really tell what's going on there. Please help. I've already disabled all firewalls, security software and checked for any malware. My router doesn't appear to have any firewalls in it that would cause this. What else could be going on? I'm able to get to the internet, just can't do these updates. Continue reading...

by Guest paddieu- 0 replies

Hi I was typing away for hours on the chapter for my book, and clicked one thing and suddenly the whole chapter disappeared, around 8pm BST. I searched to retrieve it as best I can, being computer dumb, but cud only find a file from 3pm BST. ie 5 hours of major changes and writing apparently lost. [same sort of time as last saved on the USB strangely enough] Given that autosave is on, it shud be retrievable to within a few minites of when it disappeared. I've been told to look for a windows recyle/trash icon but dont seem to have one ! Microsoft say they will no longer help with XP so I am turning to you to beg for help Thanks ! C…

win+prtscn does not take or save screen shot- shortcuts remapped?
by Guest zhester- 0 replies
Hi all. I just got a new Toshiba laptop with Win 8. I am having some issues taking screen shots. It seems the keystrokes are not the standard ones for Win 8. Here is what I know of: prtscn alone does nothing. win+prtscn does nothing. fn+prtscn copies the screen shot, just like I expected prtscn alone to do. fn+alt+prtscn copies and saves the screen shot. Now here's the interesting part. If I pull up the digital keyboard, the standard shortcuts work. What is going on here? This is important because I have a broken hand and it is problematic to have to use both hands to do this since the buttons are across the keyboard from one another. I am taking a…

User Passwords in Windows 8.1
by Guest OlaBjörk- 0 replies
Some months ago, I upgraded to Windows 8.1 from XP, really a big step. I have been working in this 'IT-area' since late of 1960's when there was only punch-cards to instruct the computer. I managed via Google-search to find a solution to remove the required password when starting my computer. So, I know there must be a way to avoid giving passwords within the same computer for different users when switching between my user and my wife. I as a user want to control and configure my computer as I want to, Microsoft/Windows must give us instructions how to set up to keep that control. So again, the question: How do we avoid giving passwor…

But now I have managed to move it to the drafts section and see the email reflects its length is 22,048 kb. It is nowhere near that, and I think that may be the email's inability to be sent.
