Random blue screens/restarts
by Guest Terrapin82- 0 replies
I'm getting various blue screen errors and random shutdowns and restarts. I've seen driver_irql_not_less_or_equal errors, system_service_exceptions and no named blue screen errors one after another. I did a complete factory reset of my PC after this began happening this morning and the errors persist even through that. My computer won't stay up long enough for me to download the 50+ windows updates I need or install my latest video drivers. I also receive "internet explorer had stopped working" messages every time I open an window. I did notice something about a memory dump file while one of the blue screens was up. Could my RAM or HD be dying? Above is a potat…

Hello dear community, Specs: 2.4Ghz quad core, 6Gb DDR3, internal graphic card, 580GB HDD, HP Laptop is all of a sudden running really slow. I was hoping there was an issue with one of the drivers because it slowed down right after an WIN update. I restored the PC to factory condition after checking for malware with several online scans. After the long process of formating it actually worked. Then the updates started and i had to eventualy reboot it. After the reboot it went back to being very slow. I again formated the C: and tried it in offline mode. It didnt work this time. I ran several memory, HDD tests and tried defragmenting 3 times, tri…

How do I accept Live Terms of Use when trying to utilize Family Safety features in Windows 7?
by Guest ATgranola- 0 replies
** I have already logged in to fss.live.com and https://familysafety.microsoft.com. This solution does not remedy the issue.** When attempting to use the Family Safety features of Windows 7, it first asks me to log in to Live. When I do, I get Error Code 8004B3E9 and it asks me to 'sign in to account.live.com and accept the Terms of Use.' However, when doing so, there are no Terms of Use for me to accept. I also go to fss.live.come and familysaftely.microsoft.com and no option for Terms of Use is available to accept. In addition I've tried different browsers. I can login to Live.com and view my account easily, but no Terms of Use prompt appears for me …

I am running 8.1 and I get the message "Real-time protection couldn't be turned on" and "This opetation returned because the timeout period expired." and windows defender defaults to off. I have no other antivirus or anti spyware installed and I have tried all the solutions I have seen. pc possibly unprotected warning due to time since last scan the day after full scan was ran
by Guest Sandl062009- 0 replies
I have MSEE set to run a full scan every Saturday at 9am. Over the past couple of weeks I have been getting a warning on MSEE stating at the top when you open the application: PC Status: Potentially Unprotected (this is in an orange line across the top), then just below on the 'home' tab it has a picture of a monitor with the screen being orange & an exclamation point in the center of the monitor. Next to the monitor it says "You haven't run a scan on your PC for a while. This could put your PC at risk." A full scan had been ran the day before I got this message the first time. To get rid of the message I went ahead and ran a quick scan. A couple days later I got the …

Browser Hijack. Is there a way to block a domain?
by Guest shyflower- 0 replies
On hover, in Google Chrome, I am often redirected to other sites that display the attached screenshot telilng me to update my linux drivers. This is from several .eu domains. I've got some of them blocked in AdBlock but new ones seem to crop up daily. I know it's a scam but it is also an annoyance. Is there a way to block a domain in chrome? How do I find out (and is it necessary) if this is something that had infiltrated my OS? I would rather use the terminal if possible than try to weed through Nautilus. My OS is Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Looking for an editor as good as Kate.
by Guest elija- 0 replies

I kind of fell in love with Kate when running Xfce with Kwin but found the combination a bit too heavy. I've moved to Xfce/Compiz/Emerald and am looking for a replacement for Kate. Geany doesn't do it for me; but the latest Bluefish is coming close. The problem is, I don't really know what I am missing from Kate just that I'm missing it :D Basic functions are a multi-language programmers editor that can be extended and has a good range of plug-ins. I'm thinking of trying emacs. Am i mad? Continue reading...

by Guest Derek Kessler- 0 replies

Say what you will about your phone, but Vysk doesn't think it's secure enough. Their new case, the QS1, announced today for both the iPhone 5s and Samsung Galaxy S5 aims to amp up the physical and digital security of your smartphone. Plus there's a built-in battery for a bit extra juice to get you through your high security day. The Vysk QS1 is a unique beast in the smartphone cases world. It features a pair of mechanical camera shutters so you can cover up your cameras so they can't pry into the world… and nobody can peer through your camera at you. But more importantly, the case also includes a microphone jamming system and "an internal processor that delivers hard…

by Guest Rich Edmonds- 0 replies

Apple has been involved with other tech companies in fighting for customers' privacy rights in the courts and congress in the US. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), which publishes a Who Has Your Back report each year, has awarded Apple (among a handful of other companies) with top marks when it comes to protecting user data against government officials. The report grades technology companies on how they handle customer data access requests, put forward by government. Apple met all six factors included in the report, which each listing is graded by. The company scored full marks across the board on the following: Requires a warrant for content Tells users…

Pioneer shows off their slick CarPlay integration for aftermarket car stereos
by Guest Rich Edmonds- 0 replies
Pioneer has demoed Apple CarPlay integration with its NEX dash systems as we draw closer to the final iteration of the experience. It's simple to get started: you just plug in an iPhone and the software opens automatically and takes over the car's display with CarPlay Pioneer will be loading Apple's in-car suite to both new and current hardware already available on the market. Once the iPhone is connected to the dash system, CarPlay makes it possible to access contacts, multimedia and other data stored on the smartphone through the car display – it's worth noting that CarPlay only works with the iPhone 5 or higher, running at least iOS 7.1. While not everyone has eno…

Bogus "Victim of software counterfeiting" message?
by Guest S DianaS- 0 replies
I have a good copy of XP that came on my computer, and I've used it without problems for years. Starting today, I get a message saying "You may be a victim of software counterfeiting." I know this is not true unless Hewlett-Packard counterfeits software. When I click "Change notification preferences," I do not get a chance to turn this notification off (it is very intrusive), but get a page where Microsoft (if it really IS Microsoft) *attempts* to validate my copy but can't do it. Whoever is really sending this demands that I download something (of course I won't) and "enable" ActiveX although it already is enabled for trusted sites, before they can "validate" my copy of…
