Ton's of update for 14.04
by Guest docbop- 0 replies
I finallly updated to 14.04 a week or so ago and really surprise at the number of updates coming daily. I worked in commerical software for a long time so seeing this makes me wonder who's setting the target release dates. Back in early days of software the relase schedule and most things were driven and controlled by the engineering/software dev team. So things were fairly realistic and they weren't afraid to kick out a release date if necessary. Well as time went on and control of the schedule transfered to Marketing team. Marketing started basing schedules on trade shows, seasons, and competiton. They were agressive, but they did understand if something really …

A smarter way to replicate Linux based Installations
by Guest linuxpilotostc- 0 replies
Hello everybody! Good morning! Okay this is my second post on this Forum and it's regarding a smarter way to Install Linux. I have the following situation: In the company that I work for we conducted a series of tests with the Linux usage with 3 key pilot users. Our goal was to observe their experience as they were complaining a lot when they were using Windows XP. After 2 months we've finally managed to adapt the users to the new environment using Oracle Linux and now we want to install the system in the entire department, which has 10 more workstations. Instead of installing the OS at one PC at a time I would like to know if you guys would have any idea on how to create…

OS X 10.9.3 review: Is this the Mavericks we've been waiting for?
by Guest Peter Cohen- 0 replies
New Mavericks build corrects long-standing issues. Should you upgrade? Let's find out The latest general release of Mavericks is now available for download from the Mac App Store. It was released to the general public on Thursday after a lengthy beta testing process that began back in early March. It solves a bunch of problems that have lingered for Mavericks users since 10.9 was released last fall. 4K the way it's supposed to be OS X 10.9.3 brings greatly improved support for 4K (Ultra High Definition) displays. Few Macs are even capable of driving displays that large — right now it's limited to the new Mac Pro and the late 2013 refresh of the 15-inch Retina M…

The Kairos hybrid mechanical smartwatch with a transparent screen is up for preorder
by Guest Derek Kessler- 0 replies
If you've been looking at the current crop of smartwatches and said, "meh, not fancy enough for me", we recommend you take a look at the Kairos smartwatch. The watch aims to combine a traditional mechanical automatic movement watch with a custom smartwatch overlay that's compatible with Android and iOS. What makes the watch interesting (at least in its current render form) is that the display is a transparent OLED layer over the hands and exposed movements of the watch. But the Kairos does not look to come cheap, especially for something that we've only see in renders. First previewed a week ago, the Kairos has a much more traditional appearance to it than most smart…

Apple alerts AppleSeed beta testers: OS X 10.9.4 is coming
by Guest Joseph Keller- 0 replies
Apple has informed the users in its AppleSeed consumer beta testing group that they will be automatically enrolled in the upcoming testing for OS X 10.9.4. The notice came in an email following yesterday's release of OS X 10.9.3. The notice appears to be going out to users in the invite-only AppleSeed program, rather than the public Beta Seed initiative launched a few weeks ago. OS X 10.9.3 released yesterday with better 4k display support, contact and calendar sync over USB, and better VPN reliability. We don't know what 10.9.4 will focus on, but Apple is said to have already seeded an alpha of the update to a number of employees. What improvements would you like…

How to unhide your /Users directory in 10.9.3
by Guest Peter Cohen- 0 replies
The new Mavericks update, 10.9.3, has taken away some people's ability to see their /Users directory. Here's how to fix it Mavericks has been updated to 10.9.3, and a peculiar thing has happened to some people who have applied the update: Their /Users directory has gone missing. More specifically, it's been hidden. Unhiding it isn't a big deal, though it does require you to use a utility that many Mac users never go near: Terminal, the command line interface for OS X. This isn't the first time Apple's hidden essential directories from users. When OS X Lion was released in 2011, Apple began to hide the Library folder. The files in there are ordinarily meant to be lef…

by Guest Daniel Rubino- 0 replies

EA has launched a batch of official apps for Titanfall, the popular next-gen first person shooter (FPS) game. The companion app – available on Android, iOS, Windows 8 and Windows Phone – keeps players up-to-date with everything Titanfall when not at the gamepad and enjoying the destructive power of their titan. Content included in the Titanfall app includes rich intel about the history of the Titanfall universe, along with characters, weapons, maps, modes and even controls. Basically, this app will prove to become the bible of everything to do with the game. Not only is it an interactive encyclopaedia, but EA have also made it so players can check their statistic…

WHY Bother with PC SCAN?
by Guest EdmondGantney- 0 replies
Hi Everyone, DATE: 5/17/2014 It is ridiculous to have any DRIVER PC Scan in order to download anything. Some if it destroys my PC the way I purposely have set it up to be! Scanning for missing shortcuts? These scans are stupid to me because some drives are selectively ON and others are selectively OFF as to get my PC started right in MY way it is set up. What you people do not know, is that even some personal files and folders are not to be deleted and I should have the option to bypass all these scans, It's is my business how I use my PC and what I keep in it, and I do not want some dumb program telling I have 1368 driver errors or so because it slows down my PC, I…

WIndows 8 downgrade to windows 7
by Guest carrie0001- 0 replies

Windows 8 is the worst program I have encountered on a computer. I have saved up money to purchase a new computer to find that windows 8 is backwards and difficult to use. My new computer that I have been needing and waiting for is a huge headache now - a soon to be paper weight or donation. It takes me forever to do the simplest tasks. If I wanted a tablet then I would have purchased one. Microsoft should give you the option to downgrade back to windows 7. Huge waste of lots of money and time. Continue reading...

I can't download Windows 8 Pro using the Windows 8 upgrade software located at the Microsoft site. In spite of my product key being accepted, I always ended up with this message. I tried clean boot, disabling the firewall and disabling the antivirus. I can't use a direct cable for my internet because my LAN seems to be broken, thus, I connect to the internet using wifi. I tried chatting with a a help service at Microsoft but she suggested nothing new. Hope someone can help me. Continue reading...
