I have looked at this distro many times over the last few years as it has a lot of what I'm looking for. There have always been irritating issues which cut this testing short in the past but the latest release appears to be something to look hard at. I installed it on a spare hard drive and so far everything appears very solid. All hardware works and there are no "permissions" errors that usually happened in previous versions. Way to much software is installed by default so it took a lot of time to uninstall it but the process went smoothly. Okay so here is the scoop inb my latest computing adventure: I have a friend from work who needed me to get his internet working, okay fine i got it working easy enough, just using standard windows 7 stuff no issues. However his main family computer is another story. My friends father got a virus that pretty much corrupted the MBR of the computer making windows 7 booting impossible without a recovery disk.... Which of course they dont have, so I am getting them a new hard disk (its a desktop and desktops are better off with two hard drives) I am also re-installing windows 7 from scratch on the new hard drive just in case there is any other corruption on the hard disk…

Hi, I am running a .exe using upstart script. When this process recieves certain input, i want to run a gui application. Whenever i recieve the input, i am trying to create a pseudoterminal pair using forkpty() and trying to launch the gui app. I am not able to do so. Any suggestion. As part of its WWDC 2014 keynote address, Apple introduced Swift, their new programming language. Now one of the company's own programmers has created a clone of the popular mobile game Flappy Bird with Swift to show how easy it is to make a game with the language. The programmer, Nate Murray, claims he had no prior experience in using Swift before Apple officially announced the language on Monday. He then starting working on the Flappy Bird clone, which he naturally calls FlappySwift, and said he was able to create a working version of the game in just four hours. My wife has an old Laptop running Windows XP. I have a brand new version of Windows 7 never used on any PC and would like to install this on her laptop. I have saved all necessary files and folders for her. Can I just do an install of Windows 7 on her lappy and if so are all the drivers and utilities on the Windows 7 version that I have? I have been through all the relevant posts regarding issues similar to this but I have not found a permanent solution. I have a Microsoft LifeCam Studio Camera. I have written a program using Microsoft Media Foundation that captures 1920x1080 video. Initially I was NOT able to capture 1080p video. What I had to do to fix this problem is Download LifeCam 4.2 and install it. Once it was installed, I had to UNINSTALL it. I was then able to capture 1080p video. What is the problem then? The problem is that, the situation comes back again and I have to do the install and uninstall of the LifeCam software. My question is how do I solve this PERMANENTLY? Some more not…

Hello, I'm desperate for some help with my laptop. I had some issues with menu tiles not working and not being able to update to 8.1 so I did a refresh. Everything works fine now except Windows update. I have been keeping records of appointments and conversations with prospective employers I need to save and have as evidence in a divorce. Is there a way to covert my appointments each day over several months into an excel spread sheet that would show each day, the time and the persons appointment is with? I am using the calendar on the main screen of Windows 8, not Outlook. I don't want to be forced to copy and paste each day since last July into a Word document and hoping someone can help converting all these into a Excel or what ever to save and be understandable to someone else? Hello, I have few queries about windows 8.0 to windows 8.1 update. 1. Do I need to keep the back ups of the data stored in hard drive? 2. My internet connection is very slow (20 to 40kbps), what time will it take to complete the process ? 3. It appears my parental control files are gone from my registry (perhaps a smart child has deleted them) however I can't seem to repair them by either doing a restore or running scanregw.exe /backup. I have two computers with a folder from one, mapped to the other as 'Z' drive. I put new files (jpg's) to this folder all the time and for ease of use, have the mapped drive displaying as medium icons. Sadly, the files will not show as medium icons properly, I am sure because of being a mapped drive. When I save the same files locally, no issue, they view just fine. How do I get the computer with the mapped drive to view the files properly as medium icons? Is there a registry tweak or something that will help with this? Any help appreciated. Hello, I recently built a computer. It is about 2 weeks old, and runs Windows 7 Ultimate. When I first got it, it worked great, but all of a sudden any program that wasn't preinstalled/ microsoft based started to crash. The only Microsoft program to crash thus far is Internet Explorer, which leads me to believe I may have some kind of internet problem. What usually happens is I will open a program, and it will crash, sometimes instantly, and sometimes after an hour. I have checked my event log and it doesn't show anything after a crash.
