I've recently installed windows 8.1 and I have not been able to connect to the internet ever since . I've tried various remedies I searched for on various forums like using the elevated command prompts netsh winsock reset catalog and netsh int ip reset reset.log hit , even tried ipconfig /renew andipconfig /release . But still nothing . I also tried removing AVG but still nothing . I'm pretty sure its also not a router related issue as all the other computers in my home connect to the wifi and in addition to that I've tried to connect the laptop to different routers and still nothing . Video card trouble
by Guest JaredLipski- 0 replies
I have recently bought a new graphics card for my computer. I installed the video card correctly, and then installed the drivers with the disk that came with it. After restarting the computer, the shortcuts disappeared and my machine was saying that there was a second monitor, which I do not have. So I clicked on devices, on the right hand side (windows 8) and clicked "display second screen only" on accident. Now my only monitor will no longer display any image at all. I took out the video card, and used the I/O DVI port and my screen continues to turn on and off with no image displayed. Continue reading...

Rootkit Revealer does nothing
by Guest ptoye- 0 replies

I have tried running Rootkit Revealer - I enter the Admin password when asked, but nothing happens on my machine. I also tried "Run as Admin" but the same nothing happened. Makes me a bit suspicious that I've been hacked and diagnostic tools are being prevented from running. Or is this normal under Windows 7 (last time I ran it was under XP)? Any ideas/suggestions, anyone? Continue reading...

Need help with Windows Power Shell
by Guest JeannieHavel- 0 replies
I never intended to engage Windows Power Shell, but somehow I did. I guess I unintentionally hit a hot key? First, Windows Media Center kept booting up on its own. I tried to remove any file associations with WMC. Suddenly my icons changed and files such as Restore are now PS files. I tried booting with my Windows Boot Disk created when I first bought the computer, but I don't know how to get the restore process going if I cannot access the Restore function. If you do not already know, I am as dumb as a box of rocks. I have no hard core computer experience. I have built the hardware but I am senseless about how it runs. I can make lots of programs work just fine, but the…

Screen goes blank, when switching programs in Windows 7 Pro.
by Guest KonaGolden- 0 replies

If I switch from one Windows 7 based a program to another, many times it will result in a black screen. The monitor power on blinks (it's usually on solid) I've read through a number of posts, and tried several things. If I press the "Windows" button on the keyboard, unplug the monitor, wait 15 -30 minutes, and plug it back in, it will usually return to the Windows screen. Here's the scoop: I have updated all the drivers....still happens I have removed all games...still happens I've run defrag and disk cleanup....no luck I checked power options....nope I've run Windows trouble shooter, no recommendations. I changed the following hardware; monitor, DVI ca…

After I updated my Windows 8.1 to 8.1 update, I notice that every time I boot up the Windows, an alert appears on top left corner showing Windows Defender is taking action to clean detected malware. At the beginning, I believe the Windows Defender is working very well. However, I did not see this alert before and now it appears every time I boot up the Windows. Can some advise if this is a misleading alert or I need to do something on it. Thanks! Continue reading...

PC infected with Win32/Zbot
by Guest plate1950- 0 replies
I have been infected with the win32-zbot. It is identified on my computer as C:\Users\mary\AppData\Roaming\Izsiom\bului.exe. I can follow the path to the folder IZSIOM and bului files, but ot delete. I logged on as administrator and took ownership of the object, but still can't remove it. When I look at the Properties of the file the security settings allow total access, but when I highlight it, the "remove" button goes gray so I can't click it. I've granted myself, as administrator, permission to access the file but cannot delete it. When I try, I get a "need permission" message. I don't know how to gain the permission necessary, although I've read all the info on…

Safari hijack? "updateplayer.us" demanding to be installed!
by Guest sgould- 0 replies

On holiday in France from UK. MacBook Pro. OSX 10.9.2 Safari 7.0.3 Last night I was in the hotel, connected to the internet using the hotel wi-fi "WifiPass from Passman". Safari suddenly posted a new page in a new tab from "updateplayer.us" demanding an "urgent update to FlashPlayer" and a pop-up window that only had an "OK" button and no cancel. Nothing worked on Safari. Could not close windows, etc. I clicked nothing. Force Quit Safari. Restarted computer and it all reappeared. Force Quit again. Cleared History. Got into Prefs and blocked pop-ups. Opened Safari (can't remember exactly the order of this - it was very late!). Got the "updateplayer" page without the …

Icon sizes in Finder windows
by Guest PegM4- 0 replies
One of my issues with Mavericks is that I miss the little slider in the lower right corner of Finder windows where I could easily change the size of icons in the window. This feature was very helpful when looking for photos in that folder. I could instantly make them larger to determine the differences between similar photos. Is there any way to do this now? Perhaps a keyboard shortcut or something else that I am missing? Thanks Peg Continue reading...

Solved - (I hope!)
by Guest User141772- 0 replies

I have posted to this site recently for problems I was having with my Canon printer, and then my mouse (All three of them!) first, the Canon printer; I beat myself for about a month trying to solve the printer problem (it wouldn't print) My brother put out a feeler on his tractor forum to see if there were any Linux users there that could help. One poster pointed out that Canon and Linux do not have a working relationship. Then he pointed out three printers that work well with Linux, one being HP. I found an HP printer at a garage sale, hooked it up, and lo and behold, no more printer problem. Then, however, the mouses decided to quit. More research and no solutions, …

Someone was trying out pmwScribe for me and got this icon on every one of the buttons instead of what should have been there. That suggests to me that it must be some kind of "broken image" symbol. But it isn't anything like the one that gtk gives me when it can't load an icon. broken.jpg. Has anyone seen it before? Attached Images broken.jpg (1.0 KB) Continue reading...

Using T-Mobile and stuck with one bar at home? A signal booster can help
by Guest Peter Cohen- 0 replies
After a long dry spell, T-Mobile USA is once again providing signal boosters to customers who meet criteria for the devices. A signal booster can amplify a weak cell signal to make it easier to use your cell phone in your home. What's more, the signal booster is offered to qualifying customers for free. T-Mobile's made great strides over the past year to build out their wireless network. There are still some weak spots, however. Until T-Mobile gets its towers operating at 700 MHz (expected later this year) — and until customers upgrade to phones that support LTE Band 12 — building penetration is going to be limited, as well. So if phone service is weak in your house,…

Microsoft dives into the Office for iPad design process
by Guest Simon Sage- 0 replies
Microsoft has provided a look behind the scenes on how they developed Office for iPad and highlighted an impressive 27 million download milestone. They made plenty of smart moves, such as designing for the iPad, rather than simply porting a desktop version to a tablet. The devs considered core usage scenarios, like making last-minute changes on a presentation, or powering through a draft to meet a deadline. Subtle touches like a lightweight but customizable menu ribbon, and tweaking the standard iOS 7 design principles with their own spin helped make Office the app it is. We're fans of Office on iPad, even with the subscription cost. There are plenty of productivity …
