by Guest PatrickPhillips-786- 0 replies

Hi. I own an Administrator account on Windows 7 x64. I don't really have one specific example of where the following happens since I see it at various locations. So, I guess that I'm just asking for some general wisdom instead: I attempt to access a folder. A dialogue box appears: "you don't currently have permission to access this folder. Click continue to get permanent access to this folder" Continue or Cancel As an Administrator, I am ABLE to continue. I just want to know if there's any reason that I SHOULDN'T as far as.....screwing something up? Does anyone know why an administrator account wouldn't be given full access to these kinds of folders …

V9 Portal Site keeps opening in IE 11?
by Guest SuperProdigy360- 0 replies
Hello, the website v9.com keeps opening as if it was my default home page in Internet Explorer (it's not). My home page will open with the home icon fine, but when I start IE the V9 Portal Site always opens up. I have removed all of the programs linked to it and reset IE settings completely, but nothing is working so far. Also, strangely it only happens when I open IE with the Taskbar icon. If I use a shortcut in the desktop it works normally (I edited the shortcut's properties and removed the target link of v9.com). Can anyone help please? Continue reading...

After I updated my Windows 8.1 to 8.1 update, I notice that every time I boot up the Windows, an alert appears on top left corner showing Windows Defender is taking action to clean detected malware. At the beginning, I believe the Windows Defender is working very well. However, I did not see this alert before and now it appears every time I boot up the Windows. Can some advise if this is a misleading alert or I need to do something on it. Thanks! Continue reading...

Strange Laptop Behavior with Networking / Battery
by Guest WhitePhoenix- 0 replies
This may not be related to Linux, but since it only started happening after switching from Windows 7 to Linux I decided to post in these forums. Since the same problem happens with two (that I know of) different parts, I decided to make just one post in this chamber. It doesnt make sense, but it does happen. At work I have no Internet connection that I have access to. Sometimes I will have only a short time to use it, so I wont plug it in. I have the original backup battery pack that came with the laptop. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L655d-S5151 (Intel dual processor, 64bit, 4G RAM). At work the laptop works just fine, even when not plugged in. No problems a…

TCP/IP stack data structure in the Linux kernel space
by Guest ha-as- 0 replies
I am trying to understand the implementation of TCP/IP stack in the linux kernel space. And I came across multiple-thing which I am not sure about. 1. What is meaning of non-linear sk_buff, and how does it differ from linear sk_buff? 2. If I want to get the timestamp option in the TCP header to obtain Timestamp value and timestamp reply, how can I extract it from sk_buff using tcphdr structure? 3. Changing the value of the timestamp requires, recalculating the TCP checksum ,right? So how can I do that in terms of functions required in the coding? Continue reading...

Vodafone's latest price hike could see UK bills increased by 10 percent
by Guest Rich Edmonds- 0 replies
Vodafone as announced price rises for the UK market, which could see monthly bills go up by as much as 10 percent. While contracts themselves will not be altered, the mobile operator will be increasing the amount charged on use above customer allowances. The company will calculate how much bills will be increased using a three month profile of each customer's bill. Should consumers be disappointed with the increase, they can leave the operator without charge. Should Vodafone detect that a bill will rise beyond 10 percent, the operator will provide that customer with the right to cancel his (or her) contract without any fees. It's noted that should subscribers wish to…

Apple offering free shipping on all online purchases through May 29
by Guest Harish Jonnalagadda- 0 replies
Apple is running a Father's Day promotion on its online store through which it is offering free shipping on all purchases starting today through Thursday, May 29. Although all orders over $50 are provided with free shipping normally, the deal allows you to grab accessories like cases and covers that may not usually reach the $50 price point. Traditionally, Apple has relied on retail storefronts for a bulk of its sales, but the manufacturer is turning its attention to e-commerce offerings. Apple recently overtook Walmart to become the second largest online retailer after Amazon, and more changes are underway as Angela Ahrendts settles into her role as the Senior V…

Design your own unique t-shirt with this new app from Uniqlo
by Guest Chuong H Nguyen- 0 replies

Clothing retailer Uniqlo is now offering customers the opportunity to customize their T-shirts. Similar to what a custom screen-printed shirt would be, Uniqlo's rather unique UTme! app, available for Android and iOS, will allow users to custom print a shoot with their own designs or photographs. There is also a community gallery where you can see designs that your peers have created and also vote on them; it's like an Instagram for tees. Additionally, shaking your phone will apply random effects to your design to spruce it up if you need help with some creativity to make your designs stand out. Tees will sell for about $20 for the finished product. Uniqlo's site s…

Apple's Beats acquisition nearing completion as more details behind the deal emerge
by Guest Andrew Martonik- 0 replies
Apple's rumored $3.2 billion tie-up with Beats Electronics may not have happened as quickly as first reported, but the deal is still happening. As we all continue to scratch our heads as to why exactly Apple would acquire beats, the latest reports circle back to talent — they want Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre. According to TechCrunch: "They want Jimmy and they want Dre," said the source. "He's got fashion and culture completely locked up." Sure the successful line of headphones and the streaming music service are an added bonus to the potential deal, but adding Iovine and Dre to the Apple team could unlock new potential in the media industry as a whole. Even before…

It says that the problem is with win32k.sys and something about page fault in non paged area. Also it started doing something called a physical dump. What is that? Should I let it happen?
