Microsoft's smartwatch rumored to be compatible with iPhone, Android and Windows Phone
by Guest Adam Zeis- 0 replies
While Microsoft has yet to make anything official on the wearables front, we've seen plenty about their rumored smartwatch lately. From what we've seen so far, their offering will be a slim design that offers a slew of fitness features and also has a removable watch body that fits snuggly into a companion charging/sync dock. According to Forbes, Microsoft's watch may also be cross-platform by supporting Windows Phone, Android and iOS devices — something that not many current smartwatches can claim. The report also says that the smartwatch will continuously monitor your heart-rate and will run for two days on a single charge. The race is on in the "big name" smartw…

The case for an Apple Thunderbolt 2 Display
by Guest Peter Cohen- 0 replies

We all have our big and little wishes for WWDC 2014 next week. The grand unveiling of OS X 10.10 is a forgone conclusion, and we're seeing pundits and analysts chime in on what they expect to see. Our own Rene Ritchie offered his thoughts this morning on what he'd like to see regarding iOS 8. For my part, among the hardware hopes that I have is a replacement for Apple's aged Thunderbolt Display. Apple doesn't sell a lot of Thunderbolt Displays. At least that's my experience working for a third-party reseller for the past year. But people who buy them are usually outfitting Mac Pros or other high-end, murdered-out Mac workstations built around a loaded up 15-inch Retina…

Scientists now know why rechargeable batteries go bad, and may know how to fix them
by Guest Simon Sage- 0 replies
Sweet, sweet science is on its way to finding a cure for how lithium-ion batteries (like the one in your phone) lose their ability to hold a charge over time. Researchers at Lawrence Berkeley, Brookhaven, and Stanford have found a pattern to the erosion that happens at both anode and cathode ends of the battery, when previously it was assumed the erosion was uniform. The salt that forms at the anode side and the metallic erosion on the cathode side both latch onto microscopic imperfections, kind of like how a water droplets latch onto a piece of dirt to begin forming rain or a snowflake. With deeper understanding of these erosion patterns, researchers are already diggi…

I have looked up and down for a solution for this issue. I bought my current laptop with Windows 8 already installed on it. My computer is an HP Pavilion. I bought it in November. I have read every possible solution thread I can find on this issue but my CD/DVD drive wont open. I can't eject it from My Computer. No matter how hard I try to fix it, it just wont open. I didn't change anything. It was working fine this morning. I shut down my computer for a few hours and when I got it back up and running the drive would no longer open. It doesn't make any noise as if its trying to open. There is no light when I press the button. I can open it with the paper c…

by Guest SpiritEagle- 0 replies

Hi: My problem began about a week ago out of the blue, and I had done not a thing. I read up on my error message, and have been noting they all say it is because I tried to install Windows 7 on a Windows 8 system, which I did far from. The message I get is follows: (upon start or restart at a black screen) File:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Windows\system32\winload.efi status: 0x0000428 Digital signature couldn't be verified. Now here is the catch: When I escape out of this I get yet another black screen about proceeding with another OS or Windows 8 OS. Here is my problem, I have not gone near Windows 7 as of yet, though I do have a copy here at my home. I have …

Hi All, Im having a few issues with my laptop and was wondering if anybody could give me a little advice. Firstly a bit of background info (feel free to offer advice if i haven't tried something, but as far as my own knowledge and the help of google, I've exhausted all options that i can see or find) my laptop (Dell XPS 17) is 3 years old, is Running Windows 7 and only recently has gone completely off the rails. It just started doing what google seems to call "System Repair Loop". I ran a diagnostic on the drive, and got an error code (00000xE or something, was a while ago, basically said the drive was messed up). I removed the drive, and using an external reade…

This application (sp-latest.exe) has requested to run every day for the last several weeks on my Surface Pro running Windows 8.1. It is located in C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Temp. I have declined to run it each time and have deleted it multiple times but it keeps coming back. It is unsigned and lists no author. I've run the Windows Defender Scanner and the Microsoft Safety Tool and neither detects it as a threat. I've only found one reference to it using both Bing and Google here http://www.herdprotect.com/sp-latest.exe-14612f7a36ebcdbde194f749ce23ce6513bf9e13.aspx. It only occurs on my Surface, none of my other computers are affected. Can anyone tell m…
