trouble uninstalling FastClean PRO
by Guest Emily RoseDeGregorio- 0 replies
I have been trying to uninstall this malware, and the uninstall function in windows 7 in the Programs and Features area does nothing. I ask Windows 7 to uninstall, and a text box shows on the screen asking "Are you sure you want to uninstall FastClean PRO?" I choose yes. Then the windows installer comes on the screen telling me that it is preparing to reve something, and then a User Account Control screen comes on the screen asking me if a program named 40bda8.msi, verified published by ASAP Tech Help LLC, located on the hard drive, can it be allowed to change things on this computer. I pick no, and the screen then goes back to the listing of programs on the hard…

Does Microsoft have the definitive solution to remove the Windows Installer virus?
by Guest ChecMark- 0 replies
This pop-up is really annoying and I've tried every solution out there, but I still have it. Microsoft Security Essentials didn't catch it. Defender hasn't caught it. I've downloaded Trend Micro's AntiVirus+ and run a scan and it didn't find it. Every "solution" out there is unique and some are saying to modify the registry which can be lethal. This virus is fraudulently representing Microsoft but you don't care? Continue reading...

Hi - I would be grateful if anyone could help. Does Microsoft Safety Scanner actually stop and ask you before it goes on to delete whatever malware etc it has discovered or does it just go straight ahead and delete everything? I wanted to run it just as a failsafe, but I have a couple of unusual security programs that nearly always come up as Trojans on security scans - I have accustomed MSE and SuperAntiSpyware to them although oddly Malwarebytes didn't flinch. But in the past they have been deleted automatically when I have trialled things which is a real pain. Many thanks. Continue reading...

Spinning Beach Ball in Finder every few minutes ?!
by Guest wicky- 0 replies
Ive just purchased a Mac Mini running the latest version of Mavericks. Everything is up to date in terms of the OS & bundled Mac software. In addition I have Adobe CC and a small number of other applications. The machines speed seems adequate for my needs, but its almost unusable because of the spinning Beach Ball. **Everytime** I touch a finder window after using another application the machine inexplicably hangs for 30-60 seconds (only in Finder). An example of how bad it is Moving files to the new computer I decided to re-organise my projects folder. Previously the 230 folders were organised by job number, but I decided to put them into logical groups…

Extracting Aperture images without using Aperture??
by Guest wicky- 0 replies
I'm looking for a sensible way to collect my images. Ive recently upgraded to a new Mac. The previous machine was running Aperture 3, which was an upgrade form version 2. Mavericks wants the original serial which I no longer have access to! I've signed up for Adobe CC so my intention is to stop using Aperture and use LightRoom instead. I know I can inspect the package in Finder and manually extract, but is there an easier/better way than manual extraction? Whats the best workflow given that I cant access Aperture? thx Continue reading...

Dear all, Right after passing the BIOS, at the moment Grub is supposed to show it’s menu, my Debian Linux (Jessie/sid) system reboots. I have been googling and testing for hours and can’t seem to find a way around the issue. How do I solve this? All testing and installing is done using Debian from 7.5 LIVE CD, command line only. I have set up my RAID as follows: Code: root#debian:~# cat /proc/mdstat Personalities : [raid1] md3 : active raid1 sda4[0] 1458608960 blocks super 1.2 [2/1] [u_] md2 : active raid1 sda3[0] 5238720 blocks super 1.2 [2/1] [u_] md0 : active raid1 sda1[0] 102336 blocks [2/1] [u_] unused devices:…

Flaky WiFi
by Guest NGIB- 0 replies

On my newest more powerful laptop, I have a lot of problems with WiFi stability especially using any Buntu 14.04 based distro. It will lose connectivity often every few minutes and sometimes it comes back on it's own quickly and sometimes it doesn't. The WiFi is 100% reliable when using MX-14 (which is based on Debian stable). Here's the hardware specs (from inxi -F while running MX-14): System: Host: btn Kernel: 3.12-0.bpo.1-686-pae i686 (32 bit) Desktop: Xfce 4.10.2 Distro: MX-14 Symbiosis 24 March 2014 Machine: System: Compal product: PBL21 v: 1.71 Mobo: Compal model: PBL21 Bios: INSYDE v: 1.71 date: 04/19/2011 CPU: Quad core Intel Core i7-2670QM CPU (-HT-MCP-…

Win8 laptop
by Guest NGIB- 0 replies
Well, my first Win8 equipped laptop is on the way from Newegg. It was a great deal on a refurb AMD A-8 with 4GB RAM and a 500GB drive for just a tad over $200. My first step will be to pull the Win8 drive and put it away in case I ever want to try it - but that's doubtful. Then I'll shut off all the UEFI and secure boot in BIOS and load up a Linux distro. I think I'll go with MX-14 as the first as it is just a great distro, everything works smoothly and great help is available quick. I haven't used an AMD based laptop in over 6 years so I'm curious to see how the performance stacks up versus Intel. My others are a Core I-7, I-5 and I-3 so I'll have fair benchmarks to …

iOS 8 AirPlay won't need a network connection
by Guest Richard Devine- 0 replies
Here's an interesting tidbit about iOS 8 that Apple didn't give stage time to, and that's the removal of a necessary network connection for AirPlay. It's not even easily noticeable on Apple's iOS 8 preview site either, but there, nestled within the enterprise section is what we're looking for: With iOS 8, you can wirelessly connect iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch to Apple TV without first connecting to the organization's network. Which means you can present or share your work even if you're offline or the organization has a complex network. Peer-to-peer connections are nothing new but until now AirPlay has required a network connection to make the magic happen. Whi…

Razer, one of the most well known names in the PC game hardware and accessory industry, is finally jumping into the iPhone case business. Today it announced it will be selling the Junglecat, which will serve as both a cover and a gamepad for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s. The case includes a slider that reveals a gamepad for the iPhone, with AXBY buttons on the right, a D-Pad on the left and bumpers. Razer claims that the 20 mm thickness of the Junglecat controller makes it feel like a standard iPhone case. In addition, the case comes with a companion iOS app that allows the owner of the Junglecat a way to remap all of the buttons in the case for any game. The app ha…

Backup and restore your app on Windows Phone 8.1, Part 1: Start screen
by Guest Windows Apps Team- 0 replies
This blog was written by Hector Barbera and Sean McKenna, Program Managers, Developer and Ecosystem Platform, Operating Systems Group Windows Phone 8 introduced backup and restore as a way to ease migration from one Windows Phone to another. Windows Phone 8.1 improves on this by adding critical data sets that weren’t previously backed up, including the user’s Start screen. When the user chooses to restore a Windows Phone 8.1 backup to a new phone (or an existing phone that’s been reset) all the Start screen tiles are restored to their previous position and size. We expect the majority of apps to work just fine following restore. However, because Windows Phone suppo…

Friend is XP user and in a care home for now & about to use a 'dongle' Mi-Fi for her banking
by Guest silverhead123- 0 replies
Hello, How safe is my friend using the Windows XP for her banking whilst she is in a care home? (That could be short term or permanent, unknown as yet.) She has not used the Toshiba laptop for coming up to 6 months. I am not sure if she uses Norton or MacAfee but it is definitely one of those, for computer security or if it is even up to date. She doesall her banking on-line as she has been unable to leave the house for 3 years before her 4 month stint in hospital. The social worker organised for her to 'buy' a MI-Fi dongle from 3G to use to get internet access (the social worker did not know that was what she had bought) so she can pay for her care. It has not been se…

Can't delete Temporary Internet Files in Local Settings, MyUser account.
by Guest Windows Setup- 0 replies

I'm sure this was easy to do before. When I right click Temporary Internet Files, Properties, under Attributes, Read Only is checked in light gray and I can uncheck it, click Apply, but when I come back to it its checked again. Also, at the top of this folder's columns (Details View in Windows Explorer), there is nothing in them. Every other column in other folders is titled. When I right click the column space at the top (so you can choose which columns you want by checking and unchecking) I have a vertical column of nothing but check marks. Something is definitely wrong with this picture! I ran Super Antispyware and it found nothing. This is a mystery. …

My HP a1510n needed a new hard drive and I, like a lot of users, did not create recovery discs. I am now trying to locate a copy of Windows XP Media Edition 2005 so I can run my bank's check scanning app (their scanning software won't work with Win 7 or Win 8). I loaded a copy of Windows XP professional but get errors against: (?) Other Devices (?) OtherPCI Bridge Device (?) PCI Simple Communications Controller (?) Unknown Device (?) Video Controller (VGA Compatible) Even though The Network adaters (1394 Net Adapter) is "clean" I cannot connect to the Internet to find any updates to these dvices in error. All seems to go smoothly up to that point. I searched for help and found a place that suggested I run a short program to check my download operation. It found two parts containing errors and corrected them. Another try produced same results. One attempt ran through the process of determining if the installed 8 program was OK. Must have been as it began the install when that finished. No clue what the errors mean. Help appreciated. Continue reading...

They will not load or refresh inside the app. Like when I wanted to check the news, the article did not appear. Instead an error message appeared. Please address this issue. Continue reading...
