Inside my app I use PostMessage (HWND_BROADCAST, WM_SYSCOMMAND, SC_MONITORPOWER, (LPARAM) 2); to turn off the monitor. However, when I use PostMessage (HWND_BROADCAST, WM_SYSCOMMAND, SC_MONITORPOWER, (LPARAM) -1); (along with a mouse_event) it is not waking up the monitor. I use 2 monitors connected to GPU, Windows 8, directx9. Furthermore, I see that after sending the command to wake up the monitor (monitor still shows black) IDirect3DSwapCain9* is Null. Windows 8 automatically starts second hdd repair
by Guest GiacomoRavanetti- 0 replies
Recently my hard disk started showing high raw read error rate, so I had to buy a new one, which I'm using now. I wanted to get some of my old files on my old hdd so I plugged them both and booted with priority on my new hdd, but Windows automatically started repairing the second hdd, repair that could never be completed because of the read errors, so I had to force a shut down. Next time I booted my computer I had to system restore. I'm going to upgrade to windows 8.1 through the night but I'd like to ask you if there is a way to access to my old hdd, in order to save some of the important files, without going through the register repair. Thank you Continue reading..…

I am able to make my .bat script works with "echo" and "set" command lines in the bat file by using raykor suggestion for putting .bat file in program/script and put the path in "start in" field. However, "for" command line stops all other command lines to execute. Please see the script below. Please help how to make the "for" command line to work. I need to add date and time to the file/folder name in order to keep track of a copy of file on each day. This script works perfectly when I execute line by line one at a time on CMD command prompt. It copied file and folders and gave me date and time and concatenated to the file/folder name. The first 2 lines do not work. if …

Edimax ew-7811un Wireless adapter not working on windows 7 64 bit
by Guest JMBroderick- 0 replies

Hi there, I am having a problem using a new Edimax ew-7811Un USB wireless adapter I brought today for my Win 7 64 bit desktop. The adapter will not pick up and display any wireless networks of any kind and I am out of ideas of how to resolve this issue, I also tried the adapter with default setup on my Win 7 64 bit laptop and it picked up my house network straight away in the installation. On my desktop however the adapter will not pick up my house network or any others I've tried. I have also tried the alternate method of installing the provided drivers manually instead of using the installation and still same problem. I have also used the drivers provided by Realte…

Windows Backups - Data Backups
by Guest BobVinton- 0 replies
I use Windows 7 on an HP Notebook. I know that when I run a scheduled (weekly) Windows Backup to my external HD it creates a System Image which shows in the folder 'WindowsImageBackup'. At the same time it Backups the Data shown in the 'C:\User' folder into a folder on the HD '(computer name)-PC'. The Data Backups accumulate until I choose to Delete some. The size of the 'C:\User' folder doesn't change much - around 22 to 23 GB. The problem I have been having for a long time is that now & then the Data Backup folder shows a 'garbage' size. For example ~ '(computer name)-PC' ~ 2014-06-01 21.7 GB 2014-06-04 21.6 GB 2014-06-04(2) 0.4…

Identical Product ID & Product Key after OS installation from image
by Guest Ken Middaugh- 0 replies
We purchased 3 new Dell PC's in April to replace our old XP computers. They arrived with Win7 64-bit installed, with Win8 upgrade. Therefore there were no MS OS stickers on the computer cases. Our third-party software requires Win7 32-bit, so for 1 PC, I installed the OS from scratch using the Dell Win7 32-bit disk. I did I also performed updates/patches, and general OS configurations required by our third-party software. I then made a backup image of this 1 PC, and installed on the other 2. When I go to the Start -> Control Panel -> System page on any of the 3 PC's, it shows that "Windows is activated" and the same Product ID on all 3 PC's. Using the BeLarc …

Strange file name for MRT.EXE
by Guest Susie1001- 0 replies
Hi everyone, Checking through my AVG for which files have 'Allow' next to them for internet connection, I came across the file for MRT.EXE but the actual name of it says: أداة إزالة البرامج الضارة لـ Microsoft Windows and underneath it says: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MRT.EXE To be on the safe side until I know what this file is, I have changed the settings rule to 'Block' and Logged any occurrences of this file. All of the other Microsoft files just have Windows or Microsoft and 'Product name' after it, so why would there be some Arabic text before it. Does anyone have a clue as to why this is and could it be a virus? I have done numerous scans and the …

Winlogon.exe Virus
by Guest Victor Vieweg- 0 replies
Hello! I have recently downloaded a pirated copy (I think) from my friend who said it was legit. It was a copy of the Famous game Watch Dogs. I have looked around on the internet and they say it's a Virus called Winlogon.exe and csrss.exe (might be spelled wrong) from this so called torrent. I have tried an endless amount of time and an endless amount of different variations. But my real question is the following: Is Winlogon.exe and csrss.exe supposed to be there and do things because when I try to delete them it says I don't have the authority. And it don't really disturbs me because when i look at my CPU it doesn't use the CPU at all (maybe one or two percent…

by Guest TNFrank- 0 replies

I wanted to check out Xubuntu 14.04 to see if it'd give me bluetooth support(it doesn't) and downloaded and set it up on a USB using UNetbootin and gave it 2000MB persistence. I booted to the Live USB, set up my desktop and looked around a bit. Then, this a.m. I booted back into the Live USB and it was all back to the way it was when I first booted. So, is the persistence feature in UNetbootin only for Ubuntu Unity or what?? Continue reading...

Latest Sparkylinux
by Guest NGIB- 0 replies

I have looked at this distro many times over the last few years as it has a lot of what I'm looking for. There have always been irritating issues which cut this testing short in the past but the latest release appears to be something to look hard at. I installed it on a spare hard drive and so far everything appears very solid. All hardware works and there are no "permissions" errors that usually happened in previous versions. Way to much software is installed by default so it took a lot of time to uninstall it but the process went smoothly. The system includes a customized version of remastersys and I was able to make a bootable USB from the installed and tweaked syst…

Freeware/opensource recovery backup tools.... for windows
by Guest MadmanRB- 0 replies

Okay so here is the scoop inb my latest computing adventure: I have a friend from work who needed me to get his internet working, okay fine i got it working easy enough, just using standard windows 7 stuff no issues. However his main family computer is another story. My friends father got a virus that pretty much corrupted the MBR of the computer making windows 7 booting impossible without a recovery disk.... Which of course they dont have, so I am getting them a new hard disk (its a desktop and desktops are better off with two hard drives) I am also re-installing windows 7 from scratch on the new hard drive just in case there is any other corruption on the hard disk…

Sprint nearing deal to purchase T-Mobile for $40 per share, according to reports
by Guest Andrew Martonik- 0 replies

Sprint and T-Mobile may actually, finally (no, really this time) be ready to announce a deal in which Sprint would take over its rival. According to reports from Bloomberg and Reuters, the carriers are nearing a deal where Sprint would buy T-Mobile for almost $40 per share, comprised of half stock and half cash. That's a total deal north of $32 billion, and a solid premium over the current price of T-Mobile, which has hovered around $34 per share ($27.5 billion valuation) recently. Deutsche Telekom, the parent company of T-Mobile that currently holds 67 percent of its stock, reportedly wanted above $40 per share but has come to an agreement with Sprint's parent compa…

by Guest John Callaham- 0 replies

As part of its WWDC 2014 keynote address, Apple introduced Swift, their new programming language. Now one of the company's own programmers has created a clone of the popular mobile game Flappy Bird with Swift to show how easy it is to make a game with the language. The programmer, Nate Murray, claims he had no prior experience in using Swift before Apple officially announced the language on Monday. He then starting working on the Flappy Bird clone, which he naturally calls FlappySwift, and said he was able to create a working version of the game in just four hours. He's released the source code for the game on the GitHub site. Apple plans to release the final vers…

How to add and delete calendars on your iPhone and iPad
by Guest Allyson Kazmucha- 0 replies
The Calendars app on the iPhone and iPad can keep track of all your events and appointments, all in one place. But it doesn't have to keep them all in the same calendar. If you prefer to keep your work life and personal life separate, or to have a specific calendar for kids activities, or a special vacation, or for anything else, you can easily do so. Since each calendar gets its own color, and you have the ability to hide or show individual calendars, it's a great way to stay organized and stay sane at the same time. Additional calendars are easy to setup, and if you ever stop needing them, they're easy to delete as well. How to create calendars on your iPhone and iP…
