I am using an Acer Model AO722 netbook with 2.0 GB RAM 9 (1.73 GB usable) and Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) OS. The system is current with all Windows updates. Over the last 2-3 weeks the system performance has degraded dramatically. Here are the symptoms: Very slow responses to mouse driven button clicks, from seconds to minutes. For longer delays the system just freezes, does not accept any mouse or key-board inputs. Eventually it achieves the desired action, but this is very annoying and frustrating. The problem seems worse when multiple browser based applications are open (we use Chrome and Firefox). I have taken the following corrective steps: …

I did phone microsoft and they said to turn it off . So I did. I am running a free version of avg and ran a scan. Any suggestions to what else I should do? I also uninstalled team viewer 9. Microsoft does not randomly call people to "fix" their "Errors", and errors on your computer have nothing to do with Microsoft's servers. I almost fell for this scam because (like everyone, I suppose) I had some error messages and some script problems with Flash off and on. I had gone to Microsoft to find help on Flash issues and had even used FIXIT; but the result was a message that it couldn't fix it. Voila! A couple of days later I get a call from someone at Microsoft calling to "fix" my errors! How cool is that! He had me check and type in the START search box and brought up an EVENT screen and WOW! --- there were tons of error messages! The technician (…

New to Linux, but I'm curious what it may offer in areas where I feel Windows uber sucks. I know more than one of you will agree Windows is garbage in more than one area, but I have a singular question for now: In Windows, there is effectively ultimately two levels of permissions: user vs. admin. When you run most any installer, it requires admin so it can edit registry keys, file locations, etc. required to install the program. But in reality, it could do anything. All WinAPI calls are available to admin, it could even setup a service as LOCAL SYSTEM to get even higher privileges and ultimately very easily execute anything it wanted in Kernel Mode. So what was the …

OS: RHEL 6.5 Kernel: 2.6 GPU: Radeon HD 8400 I installed the proprietary driver from AMD's website and the installation went smoothly. I'm sshing int a server with X11 forwarding enabled and trying to get a GUI application output forwarded to me. When I login and run fglrxinfo it shows that I'm using the mesa drivers and if I run xclock, the application comes through fine. When I set DISPLAY=:0 fglrxinfo shows that I'm using AMD's driver but I get no GUI applications forwarded to me when I run xclock, xterm, or any other GUI applicaiton. I've also tried doing a remote desktop and the same thing happens. Once I set DISPLAY=:0 I have no GUI output. I need the sys…

Skype for iPhone today received an update that lets users edit messages they've already sent and makes it easier to set favorites. The update, bringing the app to version 5.1, also makes it possible to remove conversations from your recents list by pressing and holding. Editing messages is done easily enough — press and hold, then make your edits. Like with the desktop Skype client, whomever you are chatting with will get an indicator that the message has been edited. It's nice to have the option to make those edits, considering that it's a rare messaging platform that lets you go back and fix stupid spelling and grammar mistakes after hitting send. The update als…

Archos today has announced the availability of their Smart Home system — a selection of devices for monitoring and controlling your connected home. We had a chance to check out the Smart Home system back at CES in January and it looks like an awesome connected home system. The Smart Home starter kit includes two mini cams to take pictures, two movement tags to detect movement and door openings, two weather tags to measure temperature and humidity, and a tablet to manage all of the connected objects. Everything works through the tablet and can be connected to the Smart Home app on an Android or iOS device. The system uses Bluetooth Smart, meaning the devices are all w…

Dell XPS 1MB RAM Windows XP SP3 My machine recently ran an automatic update and now when I try to start up, it goes to a "bad_pool_caller" blue screen and I'm unable to do anything. I've tried to start in safe mode, but it ultimately goes right to the blue screen no matter what I try. I haven't installed any new hardware or software, so I don't understand what may be causing this error. How can I fix this? I have the same thing and I am unable to do anything also What the ? is how do you get passed the blue screen to make changes because there that's the problem. How do you fix this? I was wondering if anyone knew a way/program to downgrade a windows vista home premium to a windows xp media center edition. I want to be able to run the installer in windows, and save it to a disk partition I have made [i shrunk the size of the C:\ drive into partitions to install multiple operating systems]. I cannot reboot my pc and use the installation disk that way because I have an older computer with a very old BIOS, and it would not let me boot from the cd/change boot order. Continue reading...

I have recently (June 2014) purchased a brand new Ipod Classic 7G 160GB Model A1238. Whenever I connect via a USB port to a PC running XP SP3 and Itunes V10.0.7.2 it is always treated as though it is a new connection i.e. "Found New Hardware". After trying to install the device it then states "Cannot Install This Hardware" and "There was a problem installing this hardware: Apple iPod USB Device. I also have a 2009 16GB Ipod Nano 4G Model 1285 and this is recognised by the PC every time it is connected via the same USB port.
