obscure login icon
by Guest delis- 0 replies
Hello, I was working on my mbpro 13 (late 11, Mavs). At some point i wanted to clean the keyboard keys from the "oily" marks my fingers left..so instead of shutting down, i locked the screen (from the lock icon on the menu bar). I picked a swiffer and wiped the entire keyboard several times..while doing that -as you can imagine- the password field was filled with mambo jumbo, the os rejected the pass whenever i (while cleaning) pressed "enter"; i cleared the password field and continued wiping (thus continued typing mambo jumbo). At some point my login icon replaced with one depicting three silhouettes (like "many/multiple users" thing?), my user name replaced with a…

I have a fire insurance replacement computer. I thought I would try Toshiba laptop "Satellite e55t-a running win8.1 x64 natively. In all my years of using windows, it is the worst configuration and I have used everyone of them. This toshiba does not seem to function with the operating system very well either. I have tried returning it to best buy but they wont take it back. I have a warranty but BB says Toshiba is responsible and toshiba says BB is responsible, thats when I can get someone who speaks english. I have read the first thread but it provides little, I want to replace this with a comparable x64 linux system. I am an artist by trade and education and use most of…

The following is the url, since I have not posted more than 15 threads it not allow me to use http. access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2010-2252 Is it possible to address this vulnerability in centos 5.8 itself without upgrading to centos 6. Flickr ditching Facebook and Google sign-in for Yahoo accounts
by Guest Rich Edmonds- 0 replies
Some viewed it as inevitable that Yahoo would flip the switch for both Facebook and Google sign-in options to be disabled in favor of its own account system. The popular photo sharing service offers a solid platform for hobbyists to upload and share snaps they've captured with smartphones and/or more professional setups. If you access Flickr through Facebook or Google, you'll soon be prompted to create a new Yahoo account. "Starting this month, we will be requesting that everyone use a Yahoo username and password to sign in to Flickr. Eventually, Facebook and Google sign in will be removed." The change hasn't yet occurred so rest assured you're able to access s…

If you're looking for a new game to play on your iPhone or iPad this weekend, then Apple's new free app of the week is worth a look. The stealthy action thriller, République, is down from its usual $4.99 download price for 7 days giving you a great game to try out and save yourself a few bucks in the process. You receive a desperate call from Hope, a mysterious woman trapped inside an oppressive totalitarian state. by Guest James Richardson- 0 replies

Good news for you folk in the UK that use EE as your network of choice. Today see's the countries largest carrier announce their 4G service in 15 new towns – including – Gateshead, Birkenhead, East Grinstead, Leighton Buzzard, Wallasey, South Shields, Wakefield, Coatbridge, Lisburn, Bangor (NI), Newtownards, Omagh, Port Talbot and Neath. This follows the recent announcement that EE is expanding its double-speed 4G network to 20 more towns and cities before the end of 2014. EE have come up with a rather interesting gimmick for this launch which sees them giving away free donkey rides at West Kirby. Initially I thought this was kind of odd until I continued reading and…

At @AltConference speakers focus on code, hearts, and minds
by Guest Peter Cohen- 0 replies

AltConf speakers impart best coding and consciousness-raising practices Much of AltConference, which happens at the same time and almost in the same place as WWDC 2014, is focused on technical information and labs to assist developers with coding problems. But it's not all about the code. It's also about the people. AltConf is happening across the street from Moscone West, where Apple's putting on WWDC. AltConf includes speaking sessions and panels as well as practical labs, where developers can hear from subject matter experts on issues ranging from code to politics. To that end, speakers at AltConf have encouraged attendees to adopt a more humanistic, even sp…

Miniuum keyboard heads to iOS 8
by Guest Chuong H Nguyen- 0 replies
With Apple opening up to third-party keyboards on iOS 8, it looks like Miniuum will be porting its keyboard to the iPhone in the future. "We're working on a version of Minuum for iOS now, and we'll let you know when it's ready to try," the company stated. Miniuum, currently available for the Android platform, describes itself as "the little keyboard for big fingers." Featuring a row of keys that's based on the QWERTY keyboard and the keyboard is built on predictive analysis rather than accuracy of pressing the letters you need. An exact release date was not given for the keyboard. Miniuum will be joining Swiftkey, Swype, and Fleksy on iOS 8 as alternative key…

Drivers out on HP Laptop
by Guest PaigeCalhoun- 0 replies

I have an older (2004-ish?) HP L2000 Limited Edition Livestrong laptop that I bought as a refurb off Amazon back in 2005. I LOVE this laptop. I have a problem, though. A few years ago, my drivers all went kaput. Keyboard, touchpad, USBs, all dead. The laptop will still boot up and get to the login screen, but I can't go any further because I don't have a keyboard, touchpad or USBs. There are A LOT of files that I really want off this laptop. How can I get the files off and onto a new laptop or, better yet, get this laptop working again? Continue reading...

What does that mean and how do I restore it? I have also been unable to download an XP Root Certificate update direct from Microsoft -are all thes faults related and how do I sort it out? Why is Hotmail requiring me to verify my account EVERY SINGLE MONTH?
by Guest Mr_Frustrated- 0 replies
To Whom It May Concern Every single month for about the past five months, Hotmail has asked me to verify my account by means of an account recovery code sent to an e-mail address that I have not used for about six years and can no longer access. So I register a new e-mail address to replace the defunct one, I get given a code, I get the 30-day waiting period message, with every subsequent message that appears, I confirm that "Yes, this was me". I've never needed to change any data of any kind but you've forced me into it. The 30 day period then elapses ... and I'm then asked to verify my Hotmail account using the defunct e-mail account I can no longer access ...…

Help! Having trouble removing Malware.
by Guest Micro-Dog- 0 replies

Hello, I am currently on an iPad, and I've been searching for solutions to removing Malware from my PC. It began with me, trying to install a program called WinRAR to unzip a file. After downloading I obtained malware such as Yahoo toolbar and SafeSear.ch which I tried removing manually through Control Panel. I also noticed a lock icon appeared next to Internet Explorer and that my browser settings were changed. I tried to reset my settings there, but it failed to work. The lock icon is still there. I downloaded something called AdwCleaner because a tutorial suggested I did so. It gave me more malware as the browser add on had took me to a fake link. The malware added was…
