Continuity is a new feature in iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite that allows iPhone, iPad, and Mac to remain true to their form-factors while still working seamlessly together. Continuity includes a new, cross-compatible AirDrop, a new Instant Hotspot for effortless tethering, Handoff to pass app activities back and forth between devices, and the ability to take and make calls and SMS/MMS from your iPhone on your iPad or Mac. AirDrop AirDrop started off on OS X Lion back in 2011. It used Bonjour (zero config) and personal area networking (PAN) to discover and transfer files between Macs, and eventually made its way from the Finder to the Share menu and Open/Save dialogs…

Social network Path has spun its messaging service off into a new app, Path Talk. Path says that since its introduction last year, messaging has become their app's biggest feature. Path says that they created Talk to make messaging easier to access and use. Conversations in Talk don't last forever. According to Path, this is because conversations in real life aren't recorded permanently, so neither should your messages on Path. Messages will be automatically deleted from Path's servers 24 hours after they are sent. Path Talk also includes a feature called Ambient Status. When turned on, Talk will let your friends know what you're up to, like when you're nearby, or…

Hello When I try to install Microsoft Video Screensaver, it tells me I need to validate Windows. When I click "Continue," it opens up a link in IE and runs a script to test my Windows XP copy's validity. It then tells me my Windows copy is genuine, and redirects me to a page with MSE and IE available to download. Meanwhile, the Microsoft Video Screensaver installer stops and says "Installation was interrupted before Microsoft Video Screensaver could be installed. You need to restart the installer." I have tried multiple ways to get my Windows validated to work with the installer (it IS genuine), but nothing works (WGAPluginInstall, the WIndows Genuine Advantage…

I am attempting to free up space on my hard drive by deleting files and programs that I am not using or do not need. While in 'Disk Defragmenter' under 'File' I clicked on options, and found 'Changes to the view of a console file are stored in your profile'. Are those files anything that I really need or should I go ahead and delete them? Continue reading...

I just got my Windows 8 tablet yesterday, and downloaded the updates around dinnertime. The updates themselves took a good ~5-6 hours to download, and then installing them took just as long if not longer. It crapped out on me about 4 hours ago, and since then I've been seeing "Failure configuring Windows features. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer". Obviously I don't want to turn off my computer, but I don't know what else to do. Because it's a tablet, I really don't have access to boot options, or anything other than long-pressing the power button to turn it off. This is such a huge headache, and it's discouraging having such an unnecessary problem wi…

I have NEVER been able to access Windows store. Every time I have tried, it buffers, and then screen goes to white and states 'we are unable to connect to the store.....' I am so unhappy with the Windows 8 that came with the HP Pavilion g7 laptop I purchased last year and would really appreciate getting the update. I am a novice when it comes to 'computer jargon' so other replies have been 'way over my head'. Can someone from Windows EMAIL me a link so I can update? Continue reading...

I have seen this before in the forums but cannot locate any actual fix. I originally started with 6 updates that would not install but narrowed this down to just one after doing manual updates for each one. This particular update (KB2800095) just fails to take. I am running a Gigabyte PC with Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1. Below is a screen shot that might help in providing me with a fix. Thanks and regards, Brent. Continue reading...

I've ran the MS scanner plus malwarebytes and AVG scans too-nothing found. I've also ran system restore from safe mode from 6/12 and 6/6 restore points. I downloaded a beta AVG web tuneup program before the problem started, but I uninstalled it. now, I can't uninstall anything from the control panel. also can't change my backup settings. my backup is set for 6 pm today, but it tried to run at 11 am and reported an error. I suspect some malware fooled the my malw…

This problem is all over the place and I believe MS has yet to fix it, or even admit to it! Easy Transfer is pretty cool save for the consistent algorithm error used in determining the Shred Items. I used Easy Transfer to move users from an older W7 to a newer W7 machine. Both machines are fully updated The old machine had a TOTAL of 350 GIG of files/data on all drives including the system. In fact, as part of this process, I copied the old data onto back up drives in case something was missing and it totaled under 4 GIG of data. Well, Easy Transfer after copying the users also copies Shared Items. The total was 868 Gigs, more than double the total amount of files space o…

This is the same problem I had previously had to reset my computer back to it's first day and start again. Something is destroying files and I did run across the apps like Facebook just has an x on it and doesn't work. Do I need to uninstall and reinstall again? Why isn't defender catching any of this. It says everything is fine. Should I download a malware program in addition like bit? Should I download Microsoft Security Essentials? I have Windows Version 8.1. Continue reading...
