I ran an sfc scan the other day and was informed after the 100% scan that Windows resource protection " found corrupt files but was not able to repair some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Logwindir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log eg C\windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Since receiving this, there have been unexpected windows shutdowns even though windows restarts later after a blue screen blinking " looking for information for crash dump" I have windows 7 Home premium desk computer which has Mcafee, Reimage and Speedy PC, the last having been installed about 2 weeks ago. Can any body help me out of my predicament?? Siisi Continue reading...

I have auto-scan set up to run every week on a certain day and time but my computer may not be on and idle at the time so I may not be aware that it missed a scan for days or weeks because I received no notification and the orange castle in the notification bar is hidden by default. I'm seeing no way to fix the program's automation. I'm reading that this is how Microsoft intended it but that is asinine and I need it to start whenever it can (say as soon as the computer becomes on and idle) and continue running when it can (when the computer is on and idle) but it seems Microsoft has coded inherent contradictions in their software in regards to their own security. I am…

I often wondered on the implication of a program being native to a certain desktop environment. Is it just about GUI style or there are other implications on the performance side? Which means: if I use an old machine, should I try to stick to the DE to which the software I normally use is native or using a "lightweight" desktop environment may compensate a possible decrease in performance when using "non native" programs? I think audacity has just bit the dust for me, I use it occasionally to edit sound files but now it wont work at all anymore. In both Ubuntu 14.04 and Manjaro its latest build just plain doesnt like the newer kernels nor anything else. It plays my music at ludacrous speed and does nothing but crash. So I need a new sound editing program, one with a good gui and decent layout. I need something more then just a simple sound recorder. Continue reading...

The next update to iOS won't be the substantial iOS 8 — instead it'll be bug fixes in the form of iOS 7.1.2. Apple has been testing the incremental iOS update for at least a month, though until recently we couldn't tell you what might be inside it. Now we have a better idea: bug fixes, as one would expect from a 7.1.X update. According to MacRumors, the public release is near: Apple has apparently asked carriers to sign off on the update by Friday, June 27, indicating that a public release could occur the following week. According to sources, the build of iOS 7.1.2 does indeed address the email attachment encryption issue, as well as a bug in downloading emails…

Apple buyers guide: Which 802.11ac router should you get? You have an Mac, iPhone, or iPad, and now it's time to Apple-fy (applify?) your network. Apple offers three devices suitable for home network routing: The AirPort Extreme, the Time Capsule, and the AirPort Express. Which one is best suited to your needs, and why? Let's take a look. AirPort Express At under $100, Apple's least expensive option is the AirPort Express. The tiny AirPort Express is almost the same size as the Apple TV, only clad in white plastic instead of black. It measures less than 4 inches on a side and stands less than an inch tall, and weighs slightly more than half a pound. It's li…

How do I add a networked printer? The printer has a wired connection to a router. Its local IP address is 192.168.1.105. The printer name is NPI64867B. My laptop has a wireless connection to the same router. Obviously, network access works fine, since I can submit this posting. Also, I can ping the printer IP address from the laptop. In the Printers control panel, I click on Add Printer, select "A network printer", select "Browse for printer", then click on Next. The following appears: Note that NPI64867B does not appear in the "Shared printers" list. Should it? If I manually enter NPI64867B into the Printer field and click on Next (sh…

I recently updated my Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver to the most recent one on my Windows 8 Toshiba p875-s7102 laptop. When I went to the Programs and Features view, this is what I saw: I rolled back to the previous driver, but the view is the same. I reinstalled the updated driver again, and the view didn't change. So basically it is not showing the date installed or the version numbers any programs. All other folder views in Windows Explorer have not changed. I am not updating to Windows 8.1, so don't ask. I have not made any other changes or installed any other programs. Is this something I should worry about? Continue reading...
