Windows 8 password protected files
by Guest ScottEllison- 0 replies
I have Windows 8. My malware program says I have 55 password protected files which it cannot check. These files are slowly growing over time (more files are being added). I have never asked for such files, and have never encountered them when I download and open files. I am not sure how to handle them. Do I just delete them? Would my computer password open them? Do I even want to open them since I do not know what they are? Any help appreciated. ScottEllison Continue reading...

Mobile Partner drive disappeared
by Guest Jack Yan, Jack Yan &- 0 replies

Hi there: this morning I started the computer as usual, but it confused my J and K drives. Normally J is an external hard drive, and K is something called Mobile Partner, which I assume to be my Huawei cellphone. It was the opposite way today, the first time ever. I wanted to swap them back and thought that by ejecting J, I could reassign the hard drive. I have since managed to find a way to give it the correct letter back. However, Mobile Partner has disappeared. Windows 7 thinks that K drive, my phone, is a CD-ROM. I can’t get it to recognize it as a phone any more. I found something on the web called Huawei Mobile Partner, and installed it, but it doesn’t do …

by Guest VFPstillrules- 0 replies

Windows 7 professional 64 bit, 16gb ram, 3.4 mhz processor. I have read many many posts about this. HOWEVER, I print directly to the printers. Http via Cups. I can load my old XP machine as a VM on the windows 7 machine and it prints immediately! Have already disabled items with netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled (RSS autotuninglevel as well), bidirectional, spooling, firewall, anti virus and still the problem persists. Since it prints fast from same machine with XP and all the other users on the network still using XP print fine. I know it is Win 7. My printer ports are listed as internet ports. (ie: http://myserver:631/printers/printername) The syste…

by Guest Joshua_947- 0 replies

I got on my desktop computer the other night and found that I had the ICE virus. It is the one where the computer is locked and it says you have to pay to unlock you computer. Well, I tried to boot the computer in all 3 safe modes the computer would just end up shutting down. I was able to get to system restore eventually by booting with the Windows 7 disk. I got an error though something like x08000ffff. I then was able to sign in and the ICE virus appeared to be gone and then a window popped up that said that the system restore was successful. I should mention here that I disconnected the computer from the internet and that I restored my computer to a month back to May …

Bigger Storage Options?
by Guest Jsquirestech- 0 replies
I have a Supermicro Super Server 5013C-T/i with a single P4 CPU, 2gb of memory, and 2x 80gb drives running CentOS 6.5. It is a 1U server with only 2 drive bays so my storage size is quite limited. I was thinking of buying an old SAN off eBay and hooking it up to this server. How should I accomplish this? Buy a fiber PCI card to run fiber lines from the SAN to the server or? I am needing opinions on what I could use on a budget to accomplish having a large storage pool for all my files from the two desktop and laptops systems whether it be a SAN or other options. Thanks! Apple reveals to FDA it has a moral obligation to enter the wearables market
by Guest Chuong H Nguyen- 0 replies

Apple's conversation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration shows how medicine, technology, and regulation could work together to help users and doctors monitor patient health in a world of connected sensors. As healthcare becomes more connected with apps and wearable devices gain ground, Apple Toolbox's Freedom of Information Act inquiry yielded some interesting talking points on what Apple and the FDA have been talking about when the two sides met on December 13th. Apple and the FDA are both exploring the market right now and both are pleased with the relationship that they share in approaching wearables. Apple says that it has a "moral obligation" to enter the…

New iPhone Lock screen bypass discovered — here's how to protect against it!
by Guest Rene Ritchie- 0 replies
A new iOS 7.1.1 iPhone Lock screen bypass has been discovered. Lock screen bypasses in and of themselves aren't new — trying to protect a phone while also allowing access to convenient features results is an incredible tension — but this one can provide access to an app, which makes it one of the most serious to date. It does require physical access to your iPhone, but if you do lose possession, here's how the bypass works and, more importantly, how you can protect yourself from it. Note: iMore tested the exploit and its scope before reporting on it. We were able to duplicate it but also get a sense of its ramifications and limitations. First, in order to get around…

On iOS 8 Maps, Music, and managing culture
by Guest Rene Ritchie- 0 replies

While the sheer quantity and quality of announcements made at WWDC 2014 was enough to stun a bevy of bloggers, there were some anticipated announcements that didn't materialize, things like updates to Maps and Music. So what's happening with these key apps in iOS 8? Unless and until we hear from Apple, all we have is rumor. And for the maps part of that, we have Techcrunch: Why didn't [key changes to Maps appear at WWDC 2014]? One tipster says it was a personnel issue: "Many developers left the company, no map improvements planned for iOS 8 release were finished in time. Mostly it was failure of project managers and engineering project managers, tasks were very badl…

The best podcast apps for finding and subscribing to new shows, keeping your shows in sync, and enjoying them on your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad no matter where you are. Depending on who you ask, podcasts are either fringe media for geeks, the future of radio and television, or something in between. They also created the iPod, and then the iPhone, and the iPad, making it just as easy to listen and watch podcasts anywhere and everywhere you go. Whether y…
