An early look at Mech for iOS at E3 2014
by Guest Simon Sage- 0 replies
We got a super-early look at an upcoming shooter game from Chillingo at E3 2014 appropriately dubbed Mech. The free-to-play shooter pits players in highly customized mechs with intuitive dual-stick controls for controlling your movement and facing. Currently the game rests on a straightforward one-on-one deathmatch, but we don't expect the final product to be available until later this year; additional game modes seem more than likely. Players earn currency as they rack up victories, which can be spent on upgrading weapons and frames on their favorite mechs. As a freemium title, players are able to fast-track their way through progress in Mech, which can be dicey ter…

Godfire offers beautiful hack-and-slash action on iPad
by Guest Simon Sage- 0 replies
A hidden gem tucked away on the busy E3 2014 show floor was Godfire: Rise of Prometheus. The action game, though mostly conventional with dodge, block, light attack, and strong attack buttons, is extremely good-looking. Highly cinematic finishing moves, combos, and truly ugly bosses make a feast for the eyes. Players are in the greaves of Prometheus, who has been cast from the heavens, separated from an object of untold power, and is on a quest to get it back before its original protectors can get to it. Your rage meter grows as you lay low all manner of beasts, and, once full, lets you unleash awesome attacks. Though it's mostly blood and guts, the action is inte…

In the past, whenever I'd click on Start, there was a link to the Control Panel. However, it's been missing for some time, and I've been connecting to it via other means. I'd prefer to be able to easily connect to it via Start, and need info on how to do that. Also, I've been unable to make a shortcut to the Control Panel and would like instructions how to do that. Thank you! Continue reading...

The Yellow Shield still shows that KB890830 is still available. I am running XP-Pro SP3 and IE8. Is this another occasion where I should uninstall and reinstall these updates? There has been no recent problem with Windows Updates until now. Continue reading...

by Guest itog- 0 replies

I ran auto updates all the time until I got an update that failed and just kept repeating. Called MS and paid them $99 for them to fix it. The error went away but the updates all failed to install since then and now that support is gone I can't DL the patch for IE8 because all the other updates failed to install. I think there about 40 of them. I have tried to install one at a time, manually and automaticaly and they just say install failed and give some hex code that is like 0000x8x00x80. All the codes for each different update is different, so what is on stupid guy supposed to do. I think the service guy shut off something in the registry that keeps updates from loading…

Hi all I seem to have a magical operating system which seems to have a mind of its own and is causing me worry. It would be appreciated if someone could help me. Question 1- How do I prevent applications opening documents I didn't 'clicked' to open or haven't used before? When I open the application Notepad++, it sometimes contains a document that I haven't opened. Is this something to be concerned? Question 2- Other than netstat, how do I view all networks and protocols via cmd? Question 3- In the control panel, Windows firewall states that I'm connected to "guest or public networks". How do I become not connected? Question 4- Other than i…

Hi, I reset my laptop back to Windows 8 after I failed repeatedly to apply the mandatory update KB2919355. I wanted to install updates, apply the 8.1 update, and then try reinstalling KB2919355. However, I am currently unable to apply the Windows 8.1 update from the Windows store. A few pertinent facts: I have scanned for & installed all Windows & driver updates post reset. This is not a dual-boot system All programs, User directories & the OS are installed on one partition (C: drive) - no links used to map directories It has no anti-virus installed (I use Windows Defender) My userid has administrative rights sfc /scannow returns no errors …

Symptoms The set of windows updates (15 "important updates") were released on May 15th 2014. After their installation (and reboot) Outlook 2010 POP3 fetch fails with 0x800CCC1A error code. Removal of the updates via Control Panel -> System and Security -> View Installed Updates does not cure this issue. I had to restore the last disk image I take regularly for backup purposes in order to get rid of this issue. My system: Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1, 64-bit. Troubleshooting Method I installed the updates in question one by one making system-wide snapshots before and after installation with Regshot 1.9.0 x64. Cause The issue was c…

I just got a new Dell Inspiron with Windows 8.1. It came with McAfee preinstalled. I did not, and do not want McAfee. I would prefer to use Windows Defender. I found the application and attempted to launch it but was informed that I had another program running that would allow it to start, I assume it is McAfee. I was going to remove McAfee but was hesitetant to leave my system open and unprotected in the event Defender still failed to start. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Continue reading...

Hi, I realize Windows comes with Microsoft Security Essentials, but my computer has been acting up and I'd like to get a deeper scan if possible, without compromising MSE. I'd like to try something else out, even if it's a one-time deal. I'm having a few problems with my computer (lost IE, which has been addressed numerous times in another forum - still no resolve and I don't want to do a restore, too many apps to reload. I'm losing volume randomly on videos embedded in emails or on Youtube, and my keystrokes are registering fast, slow, delayed, etc., randomly, especially in my gmail account. Also, scrolling is stilted at times). I've already tried eliminating apps t…
