by Guest SeymourKell- 0 replies

I received a phone call from Michael . He said he was calling from Help For Windows a company that supported Microsoft. He said they had evidence my computer was compromised. He wanted me to enter a command into my computer. He wanted me to press the Windows Start key at the same time as the R key. This brought up a command window where he wanted me to enter 'eventwv'. I said I wouldn't follow instructions from some stranger over the phone and especially since I had know clue what this all meant. I asked for his contact information and this what he gave me: His name is Michael Cooper, employee id: 287MC and his phone number 541-727-0389. I hung up. So then I …

Countless discussions, countless fixes, incredible life of battle against V9 and still NO OFFICAL FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. Is there is an Official MS/Windows fix, MS Support please let us know. If I use third party software recommended by the Forum, am I protected for costs, time and effort if the 'smoke and mirrors' patch turn out to be a Piper? If someone creates a proper fix for this inexcusable complicity by MS, will we be paid for R&D and all the free advice, discoveries, identifying of gaps, weaknesses, performance and strength ID'd by the public? Is there a 'adoption' list regarding MS/Windows official sanctions and employment of community fixes…

Two different types of device drivers
by Guest david_8274- 0 replies
Hi, I feel that there are two different types of device drivers. Type 1: the device driver provides userspace API such as .read, .write and .ioctl. The driver is assigned a major/minor number and userspace program may access physical devices by use the API it provides. Type 2: the device driver doesn't not provide user space API (no read, write or .ioctl), and the driver is used by another driver in the kernel. So how do I categorize these two types of drivers? What are the correct technical terms for them? Thanks, Wei windows_7 david_8274 is online now Report This Post Continue reading...

OSM Overpass API with PHP SimpleXML :: minor changes to the parser
by Guest sayhello- 0 replies
new to the work with PHPSimpleXML I want to filter the data to get the nodes with special category. Here is sample of the OSM data I want to get the whole schools within an area. The first script runs well - but now i want to refine the search and add more tags. Finally i want to store all into the MySQL-db So we need to make some XML parsing with PHP: The following is a little OSM Overpass API example with PHP SimpleXML I've compiled it because I love OSM, so let's show some useful examples. The first part shows how we can query an Overpass Endpoint with standard PHP. we do not need that part if we have already saved the data on the harddisk. Code: …

Spotlight in OS X Yosemite: Explained
by Guest Peter Cohen- 0 replies
Spotlight is getting a major overhaul in OS X Yosemite. Not only does it look different but it acts differently too. It's no longer a passive search tool that just looks at file names and the content of files, then shunts you off to other apps if you need more help. Spotlight in Yosemite has been utterly reworked to be a very powerful information-finding tool that helps you get the data you need and act on it. So, how does it work? Center screen Spotlight's greater prominence as a search tool earns it greater prominence on the Yosemite screen. Clicking on the Spotlight icon in the menu bar, or hitting CMD + Space, yields a search bar in the middle of the scree…

Vessyl is a smart cup that knows exactly what you're drinking
by Guest Adam Zeis- 0 replies
A new smart cup looks to keep you healthy by tracking the nutrition of what you drink. Vessyl, a product of industrial designer Yves Behar and Mark One, is a connected cup that not only tracks your liquid intake, but also knows exactly what you're drinking. Vessyl can tell you if you're taking in your morning OJ, grabbing a soda, or throwing back a beer after work, and will relay nutrition information for each drink to a companion iPhone app so you can track your drinking habits (in a good way). The 13oz Vessyl talks to the app and will track your liquid intake — even telling the difference between strong and weak coffee (based off caffeine content). You can view dat…

I have also received sever suspicious phone calls from someone with a thick foreign accent claiming that there is a major problem with my computer and they are authorize by Microsoft to correct it. It seemed like they were trying to get remote access to my computer. I started to follow the instructions as I know some companies use foreign organizations but it just did not seem right. I discontinued the call and shut down my computer. I can't find any information on the Microsoft web site either saying this is legit or it is someone trying to pull a scam. Does anyone know?
